Although many rightly claim it to be the greatest sports movie of all time, Raging Bull’s praise should not merely be confined to one genre, as it is unquestionably one of the finest pieces ever committed to film.

De Niro's performance is one of legend.

Indiscutivelmente o melhor filme de Martin Scorsese e Robert De Niro, Touro Indomável é muitas vezes doloroso de assistir, mas é uma obra poderosa e marcante sobre um herói antipático

The days of glory, defeat and fall from grace of a working-class hero from the Bronx, told in his own words. The most impressive are the combat scenes, filmed with wild realism and naturalness. One of Scorsese's most outstanding works, featuring his "favorite children" Robert de Niro and Joe Pesci.

This is not a film about boxing. This is a film about the human condition and about cinema itself.

Takes a cold, unflinching look at the violence both inside and outside of the ring.

Filmed in black-and-white and shockingly well acted by De Niro, Raging Bull suggests that if you are looking for the source of evil in the world, you don't have to look any further than yourself. It's inside you or it isn't. And it comes out or it doesn't. [19 Dec 1980]

The first hour of the film sets up the situation with a naturalistic vigor and cinematic resourcefulness unique to Scorsese. He knows precisely how to move the camera, dress a set, direct his splendid actors, underlay the music, edit to keep the viewer off guard and consistently impressed. But Raging Bull has nowhere to go but down and out. As Jake follows the trajectory of his predictable degradation, the film threatens to become as bloated and repetitious as the fat ex-champ in his cups.

Martin Scorsese's obsession with a dubious mystique of masculinity turns Raging Bull into a ponderous work of metaphysical cinematic bull.

The shot work is impeccable. Few films can sport the gorgeous cinematography that is on display here. What's also on display is De Niro's masterful performance as the titular boxer, a man who is rather despicable while making his living at doing what he can do to get by. His demonic lows and triumphant highs are rocketed to life through Scorsese's clever directing work and post-editorial choices. "Raging Bull" is another crowning achievement by the masterful director and earns its right to be studied immensely by film analysts.

Couldn't find it in me to like a movie about a vile POS like Jake La Motta.

The opposite of Rocky. This so not a feel good underdog movie. This movie is all about a guy shooting himself in the foot constantly and driving everyone away due to his own issues. Interesting watch, but not what I'd call a fun watch. Filming a 1980 film in black and white came across as pretentious.

Yet another vastly overrated "classic". The whole time Lamotta is just being a meathead with a terrible temper. I'm a huge De Niro and Scorsese fan (Goodfellas, Casino), and that's why I gave it the 3, but I just don't get why people overhype this film so much? I will say this though, De Niro does a great job of making you hate Lamotta.
