While a lot of modern kids’ movies (especially those based on toys or apps) feel crass and cheap, Playmobil is heartfelt and earnest. It doesn’t have much to offer childfree moviegoers, and it does mostly feel like The Lego Movie with the serial numbers filed off. But it’s the sort of film that will keep kids entertained without driving their parents crazy.

Playmobil: The Movie isn’t as funny as some of the direct-to-video Lego-related movies, either, and that’s very much the field it competes in, theatrical release or not. As children’s entertainment goes, this is a harmless distractor, but it’s also poorly conceived at every story turn, unable to even stick to a particular generic message to make up for its extremely basic humor.

An attempt to do for the smiling, claw-handed Playmobil collective what “The Lego Movie” did for the humble plastic brick — but without that blockbuster’s dizzy, self-aware wit and visual invention — Lino DiSalvo’s hyperactive film never transcends its blatant product-flogging purpose.

The animation’s not bad, the songs aren’t much, the jokes are even less. Tiny, tiny tykes might find something to like about it. But long-review-short here — it’s too dull to sit through, too noisy to sleep through.

During the holiday season, when kids are being aggressively marketed to by every toy company who wants the top spot on Santa’s list, families deserve a movie that isn’t one long toy commercial.

While The Lego Movie is all about creativity and invention, Playmobil shamelessly steals ideas.

This is a vastly inferior toy-to-film IP expansion, with duller songs, dumber jokes, and forgettable voice work.

Of cource its a pretty childish and really stupid cartoon or movie or whatever. But what do u want wrom it? Aranoffsky's wisy horror? Or feministic dressup like in Little women? Nice attraction for kids allitle younger than lego audience, but equivalently peppy and entertaining.

Biedniejszy The Lego Movie. Wszystko jest tutaj zrobione gorzej, bez pomysłu i polotu

I couldn't do it. I couldn't make through this and I've made arguably worse B-Movie. I rented Playmobil: The Movie thinking it would be bad. I figured it would be the fun or weird type of bad (or a guilty pleasure), but no this movie is boring which in my opinion is a lot worse. This also made me realize just how boring Playmobil was. (I didn't really grow up playing with Playmobil besides a few figures.) Playmobil even as toys lacks a personality besides be the lesser of Lego. Playmobil also cannot use copyrighted characters as they simply do not have any. It is also a bit annoying with the songs. Clearly this movie was made for a very young audience (toddlers) instead of all ages as The Lego Movie was. So, I mean the targeted audience would probably like it or at least be distracted by it. I can't wait until The Mega Bloks Movie.

It's just another Lego Movie Ripoff. It's better than The Emoji Movie, but still awful and boring.
