San Francisco Chronicle
Klapisch's masterstroke was to place at the center of a movie a man, forced by circumstances, to stop and simply observe.

Chicago Sun-Times
Every character has life and depth. It's unusual for an episodic film to involve us so well in individual lives; as the narrative circles through their stories, we're genuinely curious about what will happen next.
75
ReelViews
Not much happens during the course of the movie but, as with all good dramas, the protagonists are richly drawn and the events of their lives become of interest.
70
Los Angeles Times
If the idea of interconnectedness feels secondhand, what's fresh and affecting is the way Binoche's and Duris' characters navigate life and death.
67
Entertainment Weekly
There are too many secondhand characters roving through Paris.

Chicago Reader
Soggy stuff from French director Cedric Klapisch (When the Cat’s Away), set in the title city and collecting the routine travails of various urbanites.

Time Out
This could have been a true urban mosaic. Instead, we simply get a vision of Paris as the city of lite.

Paris (2008) Dream French Cast in Entwined Lives (12,309 - 03 Mar 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In Paris, the dancer Pierre (Romain Duris) learns that he has a serious heart problem and his sister Élise (Juliette Binoche), who rais three children, stays with him waiting for a transplant. The middle-aged historian and professor Roland Verneuil (Fabrice Luchini) has a crush on his student Laetitia (Mélanie Laurent) while his brother Philippe (François Cluzet) plans to have a baby with his wife Mélanie (Judith El Zein). The owner of a bakery (Karin Viard) hires a young girl but gives bad treatment to her. A group of stallholders live a tragedy when the ex-wife of one of them dies in a motorcycle accident. A man from Cameroon intends to immigrate to Paris. “Paris” (2008) is a nice film with a dream French cast showing entwined lives in the daily life of the City of Light> The lead drama is the situation of Pierre, but the other short story entwins somehow with him. My vote is eight. Title (Brazil): “Paris” My Blog: ****/
