SummaryEvery family has one: the sibling who is always just a little bit behind the curve when it comes to getting his life together. For sisters Liz, Miranda and Natalie, that person is their perennially upbeat brother Ned, an erstwhile organic farmer whose willingness to rely on the honesty of mankind is a less-than-optimum strategy for a tidy, troub... Easily could have been mildly funny and phony but instead is really funny and true to life.

What a wonderful movie about life, family, friends, relationships and stupidity. This movie has so much charm, it hurts. Don't expect a hilarious comedy, it has it's moments, but for me, it works as much more as a drama than as a comedy. Love the characters. They are so memorable.

This little movie isn't a fully accomplished farce - it veers toward sentimentality - but the fact that Peretz even gestures in the direction of farce is somehow cheering.

This is Rudd's movie and he once more displays an unerring eye for comedy. He comes at it from an actor's perspective rather than a comedian's and it shows as his character as hilarious as he is credible.

The rest of the cast is fine, actually, but Rudd spares nothing in making Ned a lovable loser, with the emphasis on "loser."

There are times when Our Idiot Brother possesses a loping, genial sweetness. But it lacks conviction, and it doesn't hold a beeswax candle to such similarly themed films as "You Can Count on Me" and "Momma's Man."

The talented actors are game, but they are done in by the shallow nature of their characters, none of whom behaves in a manner remotely resembling real life (they don't really seem to be related, either).

Paul Rudd is at his best in this hilarious comedy. All the cast gives a fantastic performance, and it's extremely well written. If your a Paul Rudd fan this is a must watch, you wont be disappointed.

A light-hearted feel good comedy that is carried by Paul Rudd's performance.

Ok so I legit thought it was an Apatow film just because of Rudd and the poster and the brief plot I just love when they're together but this was not that and I wasn't too disappointed the movie is not complex it has its light drama its own little humor with Rudd leading this boat and Willie Nelson the lovable golden retriever with other great actors that weren't too much in their own thing they were just like cogs I swear lot of stories left inconclusive only letting Rudd being the idiot brother have the only conclusion that was I suppose satisfying I feel that at the end the writers just bowed out from the film leaving me like... that's it? The movie had some legit themes that a lot of people can relate too but they just leave those themes their with their characters and that kinda **** I saw more potential for this movie so if you want background noise or a nice popcorn sitting well there's this movie.

I'm still waiting for this one to go somewhere. With a loaded cast and a simple, engaging direction, it's got the right pieces in place to build a sleepy, optimistic comedy around the nice guy (a very dude-like Paul Rudd) who almost always finishes last. Instead, it wastes most of its time egging on the spoiled, self-centered women around him, basking in the glow of their vapid, hollow lives while they carelessly take advantage of his somber situation. It's humorous at heart, if not particularly funny, and often steps away just as things finally seem ready to turn the corner and erupt into wild chaos. The only thing more depressing than watching Rudd's poor, passive hippie get repeatedly stomped into the mud is seeing how insufferably predictable the plot can become. A total paint-by-numbers watercolor job that doesn't seem to mean the happy message it offers us before the credits.

so much potential to be funny! But the movie misses its mark. Plays out more like a drama then a comedy. watch it, if there nothing else on! Dont expect big laughs or get drawning into the situation
