The most expensive South Korean film ever made is also one of the most realistic (read: gory) depictions of the horrors of war, specifically World War II, global cinema has ever produced.

Adolescent boys will savour My Way's bombast and solemnity. Cringing adult audiences will more likely beat a retreat before final call.

.....Finally An Epic War Film Free From Hollywood & The Woody Allens of This World! The unifying idea of an Oriental Asian Brotherhood of Man (exemplified by the Korean-Japanese Friendship) which was achieved with the German help wins out in this film. Wartime Germany is honored on the film, and reveals the high respect for Germany that Orientals harbor to this day, just as much as Arabs do. The Koreans, the Chinese and the Japanese share something deeply valuable, after all - their love of "our land"! And the Germans are no strangers to that feeling! The Germans come across as tough, honorable but fair and having a dedicated heart, after all. The Russians come across as an odd and dangerous presence, hardly human by nature. All of these movie standpoints are rooted in the facts of the historical case, and not in some filmmaker's fancy. The famous German camaraderie embraces the Orientals as brothers unlike the Russians who treat them as stray dogs in a toxic mix of racist and ideological attitudes. In the movie, there is either a Turkish or Arab soldier on the German side who becomes a good friend of the Japanese and the Korean - three friends of war serving in the German uniform. MY WAY is the first pro-German and anti-Russian Asian war movie of epic proportions I have ever seen. It may be the only pro-German war movie ever (although West Germany made some early on in honor of Wehrmacht). This is Saving Private Ryan from the other side - ONLY BETTER! In this film the Soviet Union is correctly presented as an unimaginable and enormous evil of sadistic enjoyment of murderous molestation of peoples. But don't expect the Jewish-controlled Hollywood to ever make such a movie. The fitting hymn for this movie is: Ich hatt einen Kameraden (Der gute Kamerad): ****/watch?v=ISQo3Q9RWAY

Maybe it's just because I've been dying to see a new and decent World War II movie, but I really enjoyed My Way and it is easily one of the best war movies I've seen in the past two years. If you can handle reading subtitles and the occasional melodrama present in East Asian films, you'll be in for a great experience. The battle scenes and CGI were amazing and even the story held together well for being as seemingly far-fetched as it was. The only reason I didn't give My Way a 10 is because the story was too rushed. The producers should really have made this into a trilogy or at least a mini-series. Other than that, if you liked Tai Guk Gi and are sick of the crap Hollywood has been unloading on us for the past four years then pick this one up; you won't regret it.

The bloody chaos can be suitably overwhelming, but you're too aware of the whizzing camerawork, helter-skelter editing and bombastic score.

The nonstop adversity lacks any real sense of danger. Or, for that matter, emotional punch. Why these two long-distance runners keep each other alive should be of front-and-center concern. Instead, My Way is mostly an endurance test.

Kang is so over the top and jumbled in his storytelling, this could be his Michael Cimino ("Heaven's Gate") moment.

Perhaps the most charitable thing that can be said about the 143-minute marathon My Way - with a reported budget of almost $25 million, the costliest Korean motion picture ever produced - is that it does nothing by halves.

So bloated that it's forever on the verge of bursting – a sentiment reflected by the film's overindulgence in ear-splitting pyrotechnics.
