You’ll laugh and cry your eyes out as an emotionally bruised diver learns about life and loyalty from an eight-tentacled mollusk. This Oscar favorite and viral sensation is the year’s most unorthodox and unforgettable love story.

Could not be more beautifully filmed. The viewer will be caught by surprise by how emotionally connected they become to this story. Absolutely gorgeous and enthralling for everyone.

My Octopus Teacher is not the first documentary to plunge us into the otherworldly flora and fauna of Earth's oceans . . . But it is the first to chronicle a single sea creature's story from such a personal, openhearted perspective, revealing not just emotional connections but animal behaviors previously unknown to scientists.

You’re guaranteed to come away with new respect for the octopus as a species and astonishment at the intimate connection Foster experiences.

My Octopus Teacher never loses our goodwill: If we wind up wishing it had a little less man and a little more beast, that only serves its cause.

Anyone giving this documentary below an 8 probably has very little emotional intelligence. This falls into the top 5 documentaries that I’ve seen!

Este bellísimo documental me hizo sentir cariño por una criatura a la que siempre le he tenido algo de rechazo, felicidades por haber ganado el Oscar

I mean, the underwater footage is impressive, but I didn't know if the movie was just an excuse for that guy to produce a film about him. I didn't even remember what the cause for him to start diving was. And, you have to admit that the relationship he develops with the octopus is kind of creepy. 'Gunda' did a better job at giving us an authentic glimpse of the animal kingdom with no humans around (or at least on screen).

A film with fascinating landscape and underwater shots that brings the viewer up close to an octopus and its behavior in its natural environment. However, as the viewing progresses, the viewer is struck by the impression that the film was not made for the sake of the animal, but for Craig Foster. What was likely intended as an animal documentary featuring an impressive octopus behavior pattern unfortunately ends up being a self-therapy exercise for Craig Foster.

A Silent Journey Through the Nuances of Greeting and Parting251007 (2.2)Without a single sound, the film navigates the complex emotional landscape of human connection through the simplest of gestures: a greeting. "Hello? Goodbye... Hello!" These words, though unspoken or stripped of their sonic weight, carry the entire burden of the narrative's emotional arc. The film explores the subtle shifts between a tentative first meeting, the sorrowful weight of a lingering farewell, and the eventual, perhaps unexpected, joy of a reunion. By removing dialogue and relying on the visual language of silence, the story forces the audience to pay closer attention to the minute details of expression and atmosphere. It suggests that the most profound communications often happen in the quiet spaces between words. While the rating reflects a somewhat mixed reception, the film's attempt to capture the cycle of human relationships—the coming and going, the searching and finding—through a wordless lens is both poetic and haunting. It leaves the viewer reflecting on how much we say when we aren't speaking at all, and how a simple "hello" can contain a world of history and hope.
