Tirando os figurinos e cenários realmente bem bonitos, tudo o mais está no piloto automático, da direção às atuações, e o próprio roteiro parece ter vergonha de falar de sexo. Para uma história de cortesã, o resultado mais parece um filme que sofrerá censura, sem inspiração algumas nos diálogos ou em como tudo é filmado. Nem gosto de "A favorita" do Lanthimos, mas este dá uma aula de, ao menos, paixão pelo cinema.Visto no festival Varilux.

Johnny Dep dips deeper into obscurity with this period piece, whose costumes and sets, based in Versailles, struggle to prop up the tepid acting. I really enjoy this genre' of movie, however short of a few brilliant scenes, most of the movie is a sleeper. I could have done without ever viewing it.

A historical drama about Louis XV's last mistress that, despite a great technical display, in which costumes, hairstyles, makeup, and production design are the protagonists, fails because of the lack of chemistry between its leads and a poorly crafted discourse. Although Maïwenn, who writes, directs, and stars, intends to dignify the character by framing it within the context of female empowerment, her script is rather carried away by the format of Wikipedia biopics and superficial aspects of the story. And having the always controversial Johnny Depp, whose performance feels anecdotic, turns out to be more **** than an artistic decision. Pretty and sometimes entertaining but still empty.

I didn't hate this as I'm a **** for a good period piece, but it seemed like such a footnote in history. I don't know a ton about Louis XV, but he's a king and we know he's not the big one (XIV) or the one they executed (XVI). Depp was fine in it and the costumes and setting were lavish. Maiwenn, on the other hand, was unbelievable. I hate to be so shallow, but she simply does not have the looks to be this enchanting siren a king would pick over so many better options. Every time I saw her, it just took me out of the story. And in the end, they failed to address the most interesting thing about her - that she was also executed. It was, as her whole story, just a footnote.

I just loved these movie, the costumes, and the fact that is not made for modern audiences and is historically accurate is so refreshing!

The film is a masterpiece. Everything is right here, Johnny Depp and Maiwenn deliver outstanding acting performances. The entire film is carried by these two talents. Of course, the costumes and the surroundings are also perfectly chosen, and after a while you feel like you've been transported to the time of Louis the 15th. BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO!
