Isn't exactly what you'd call fresh. But although it borrows ingredients from many familiar Christmas flicks, it's got a sly twinkle of its own.

In this year's lump of coal, Matthew Broderick is the control freak who lives for toasty yuletide cheer, and Danny DeVito is the vulgar pest who wants his holiday lights seen from space. The dueling-neighbor crankfest is blah.

I love this movie it really puts you in the Christmas spirit. This is so amazing and has loads of up and down moments when you end up laughing out load at those two fools! This movie boasts an amazing cast with a fantastic story line and such funny moments. Matthew Brodrick is amazing and you really have to watch this one guys!

The cast is so awesome in this movie! The jokes are so savage and I just L.O.V.E. every part of this movie, it is one of those films that you can just watch over and over and not get bored! An awesome movie that really puts you in the mood for Santa to come!

Unfortunately, this dimwit concept barely has enough spark to power a single strand of Christmas lights, much less rival the classic-by-comparison "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" in side-splitting Yuletide snafus.

I literally did not count a single laugh in the whole aimless schlep, except for the hucksters who made it, on their way to the bank.

When it comes to comedy, Deck the Halls is remarkably tedious.

Seattle Post-Intelligencer
It is so contrived and utterly stupid in every way that it surely must be the nadir of the genre.

This is such an amazing movie, we really did love this movie here. The film has such a true story line, with an amazing cast and so many laugh-out-loud moments that are going to have you and your family rocking around the Christmas tree!

Good premise, but it steps on all its own jokes. It plays serious music and fades to black when it should insert a quick reaction, a follow-up joke, then cut to something else. By the time the ending rolls around, you'll either be in a jolly mood and tolerate it or you'll be checking your watch. It's not a classic.

Unlike Christmas with the Kranks, this movie has lame jokes and the story is an incredible mess. There is not a lot to reccommend. Little charm or fun in this holiday movie.

Seriously, avoid at all costs! The main cast's acting is ok, that's all the positives over with. This is like ordering a Christmas comedy from Wish️. Like the makers copied tropes, scenes, and the plot, from all the other Christmas comedies, but had no understanding of why the originals were funny. The main plot of two neighbours warring over excessive Christmas house decorations has been done before, so they didn't add any depth or reasoning behind the story. None of the characters had any back story, depth, or explanation either, so none of the film made any sense. About as funny as Broderick going for a joyride in Northern Ireland. Watch 'Die Hard' instead, as that is far funnier and more Christmas spirited than this. Or any of these: Christmas Vacation, Scrooged, Gremlins, The Muppet Christmas Carol - basically anything, even one of those Canadian TVMs.

"Deck the Halls" aspires to be "Christmas Vacation," but only very rarely comes close. Danny DeVito's talent is completely wasted. Matthew Broderick is about as expressive as a blank white wall. The dialogue is terrible. But I did manage a few laughs.
