It’s fascinating and enlivening to watch how the fusion of two intensely familiar subgenres–serial killer thriller and shark-starring B-movie–can result in a work that is somehow brimming with life and verve.

It takes a steady hand to pull off a horror film as outlandish as Dangerous Animals – a movie, lest we forget, that is literally about dangerous animals – but Byrne has pulled off something slick and confident here. It’ll keep horror fans out of the water for years.

Great setting, pacing, and an awesome central villain performance. My favorite moment by far was when the hero and the bloodthirsty shark looked into each others eyes and it decided not to eat her, bravo.

Unbearably taut and pitiless, Dangerous Animals is a terrific people versus shark movie. It’s a well-acted thriller that takes its genre inspirations seriously and uses them to great effect. Recommended. detroitcineaste

The setting of a boat in the middle of the Coral Sea unlocks a delicious new home for terror.

Sean Byrne’s third feature is neither as gripping as The Loved Ones, his prom-night horror, nor as intriguing as The Devil’s Candy, his supernatural heavy-metal thriller, but it rattles along as effective B-movie gore.

Though Courtney and Harrison give their all, this is a slick-looking yet routine exercise that wastes an ideal premise.

Director Sean Byrne doesn’t lean hard enough into the trashy pleasures for maximum fun, unlike some of the more preposterous recent shark movies. (Give me The Shallows, Under Paris, The Meg.) But he dishes up plenty of lurid chum and puts a kickass heroine in peril.

Sean Byrne’s third feature is a messy mash-up of creature feature and serial killer movie whose psychological posturing and gory effects can’t hide the fact that it’s propped up by tired horror tropes.

Me pareció una película entretenida, con buena tensión y momentos que realmente funcionan. No reinventa el género, pero sabe mantener el suspenso y tiene escenas bien logradas.

'"Dangerous Animals' is this year's 'Strange Darling': a thriller with some horror elements that makes a commentary on misogynistic violence. It doesn't quite work as a whole, as there's little character development and the plot is predictable and repetitive. However, Jai Courtney's over-the-top performance, an effective final girl, and some twisted scenes make it something of a hybrid between 'Jaws' and 'Saw.'

(Mauro Lanari) "127 Hours" ended with a tripartite split screen: man is an Aristotelian "politikon zoon," "no one saves himself alone," and to regain one's social nature, one must be prepared to sacrifice (amputate) a part of oneself and of one's masochistic isolation. I don't know how such a silly idea by Boyle became a success in 2010. Sean Byrne reiterates the concept by transferring it to a fish setting.

Had the misfortune to watch this after a recommendation. An absolute heap of crap. Sadistic, cliched, just awful. I lost interest after an hour and was forced to spend the next hour wishing time would pass quicker.

Wanted to like it more than I did. Felt too long, failed to capitalise on the premise, and it was far too freaking predictable.
