Though it's as foolish as the first film, is rather more fun to watch and sometimes very stylish-looking.

Although not the success that the original was. This sequel is actually better in some ways. This time around it centers around an older Damien in a military school. After being adopted following the events of the first film. He's attending with his cousin and you begin to get a sense of what horrors he's capable of. The story works from a more psychological standpoint and even shows him struggling with the things he has to do. But don't worry the insane death sequences. The one involving crows is particularly effective and disturbing. Although a solid sequel the original is still superior in its sheer effectiveness, that being said this is an entertaining and creepy venture that manages to avoid the trappings of sequilitius and stands quite well on its own. Budget: $4m
Domestic Box Office: $27m 4/5

Like most horror sequels, this one has its problems. Omen II feels more straight up slasher than the original which had a moody, slow build, however if you dig deeper it has a lot of political commentary on abuse of power and classism. Damien really speaks to the World's political climate of how the truly wealthy always protect each other.

Don Taylor, a director who specializes in sequels and imitations dutifully puts image to celluloid without distinction. [10 June 1978]

Alas, Little Orphan Damien, lucky enough to be taken in by a rich uncle after bumping off his first pair of foster parents, can’t resist killing the second set, too, along with assorted friends of the family. Damien is obviously wearing out his welcome.

This sequel lacks the bravura pacing of the original, and though it tries to maintain the biblical tone in following the adolescence of its antichrist anti-hero, immense problems emerge.

Damien is a strikingly handsome film - full of plush offices and country homes reeking of Old Money, all lovingly captured in Bill Butler's burnished-gold cinematography - but it hasn't an ounce of suspense. There's really no story here, just a catalog of increasingly baroque murders. [19 June 1978, p.75]

As in the Friday the 13th movies the only real interest here is observing the outrageous lengths filmmakers go to in devising "Can-you-top-this?" murders.

Looking at the film I liked the movement and the style. The locations looked amazing. The sound has not aged well and actually sounds fairly terrible. It had no bass and the high end was pushed way too far. The murder death kills were pretty cool (especially the elevator death) although not that gory but as this is a thriller I didn’t mind. The story didn’t really progress from the first film and there was no real suspense. Quite well paced and nice to look at but ultimately more of the same.

Damien: Omen II is old school satanic fun with no substance at all. I wish I were Damien
