Cold Fish is wild, head-turning, stomach-churning stuff, and it makes a bracing addition to the overstuffed canon of serial-killer cinema.

A hybrid of the millionth send-up of the repressed/impotent Japanese patriarch and the "bad buddy comedy" that Barry Levinson held up as exhausted and bankrupt with 2004's "Envy."

The weary urge to resort to bloodbaths and violence, especially in its climax, demonstrates many of Sono's weaknesses.
Especially his inability to be concise and understand that you don't need to go too far when you're not saying anything relevant. Cold Fish it's gruesome and unapologetic, but so what? I take nothing from the experience.
