As a filmmaker, Kundalkar’s sense of pace seems borrowed from Russian novelists — the most long-winded ones. Watching this movie is like watching cobalt paint dry for long stretches.

Honestly, the whole movie seemed derivative. And while I don't entirely support comparisons to: Call Me By Your Name, such comparisons are not unreasonable. Cobalt Blue is pretentious and perfunctory while its referencing of art is laughably cheap. Its plot is poor and it doesn't help that the movie's main character is shallow, selfish, and mostly horrible. As a result, it's incredibly difficult to feel what he feels or root for him. Some other characters are decent but they are all mostly inconsequential. Overall, Cobalt Blue fails to conjure up anything real, emotionally or otherwise. As the movie takes itself too seriously and sadly fails in almost every way. Ultimately, I do not think it's worth anyone's time.
