Film Threat
Everyone loves a good underdog story, and Bank of Dave fits that mold, despite needing to be tighter.

Even if the movie is about one small win, there’s a sedate pleasure in seeing it play out, especially knowing a version of it happened in real life.

I love a feel good movie - and especially one with the little guy taking on the big ones and winning! Great movie and based on truth.

The story of perseverance and triumph is already well known. The interesting thing here is that it is inspired by real events, supported with a touch of British humor and the participation of the group Def Leppard. For those looking for something more relaxed.

“Dave” manages to be just cute enough to come off, largely thanks to that cast, this setting and its “everybody hates bankers” ethos.

Rory Kinnear gives a robustly likable performance as Dave, somewhat redeeming this unashamedly formulaic crowd-pleaser.

It’s a film with a decent bit of charm, and it’s hard to argue with the greed-is-bad message.

(Mauro Lanari) 1) Some say the message is all that matters in films like this. Leaving McLuhan aside, I see no reason why we can't have both, an interesting content and a direction that is neither sloppy nor pedantic 2) While watching it, one is nàgged by a question: "If this guy really revolutionized the British banking system by allowing the birth of micro-communitarian and non-profit credit institutions, how come nobody knows about him?" I won't spoil it, a visit to the Wikipedia article will dispel any doubts. 3) Too little hiding the ambiguity of the cinematographic operation behind the initial inscription that plays with "true" and "truish": in reality, this is how a Loachian wishful thinking is passed off as a fact already acquired and realized. I was hoping only the name of the protagonist was false as a reference to David against Goliath, instead it's the opposite: Dave is the only true thing in the biopic.
