Alba gives such a focused, interior portrayal that she just might have managed to carry the movie had it been better.

A good cast equipped with cute names is forced to muddle through terminal whimsy in this less-than-magical adaptation of Aimee Bender's adult fairy tale, sluggishly directed by Marilyn Agrelo, who more successfully helmed the delightful documentary "Mad Hot Ballroom."

Jessica Alba gets plain-Jane crazy for An Invisible Sign, a syrupy "A Beautiful Mind" redux in which the starlet sports big brown bangs and Pippi Longstocking pigtails.

Except for two brief summits between Alba and Messina's pillowy lips, however, An Invisible Sign fails even to pander effectively.

I really don't understand why critics are trashing the film so bad. I have to say the first twenty minutes or so are very, very strange but as soon as the story picks up it is very interesting. Invisible Sign has great moments and when the story isn't so great Jessica Alba helps carry the viewer. Overall a very strange quirky dark comedy and was interesting enough to satisfy.
