Wolf relies more on surprise plot twists than the standard “ticking clock” of Hollywood thrillers. And there are stunning turns, a few that will make your jaw drop.

An amazing thriller that portraits the most unrevealed sides and primitive motivations of human nature. The tension builded between the characters explodes through a shocking and terrifying outcome. Leandra Leal delivers an astonishing performance!!

Wonderfully directed, shot and performed, A WOLF AT THE DOOR dares to show the ugly side of an extra-marital affair and it's brutal consequences. The end will make your jaw drop as nice people do very bad things.

The screenplay is fiendish, clever and airtight: Like a magician, Coimbra uses sleight-of-hand, but he never cheats, and the film is even more engaging on second viewing, when you really know what’s going on before your eyes.

It finds its strength in painting a portrait of Brazilian heterosexual gender relations as an always-volatile symbiosis between feminine hysteria and ruthless machismo.

A Wolf at the Door is undoubtedly effective and well-crafted, but its tale of reckless obsession and its inevitably unhappy ending are finally too unsavory for its own good.

the pic gathers steam and displays considerable drive, even if it can’t quite shake the feel of a good TV movie.

As with so much of Brazilian cinema, the framing of the plot as a social allegory instead of a psychological portrait doesn't yield the most emotionally satisfying experience. But Wolf serves as an important feminist correction -- and a compelling reminder that predators can come from anywhere.

The most shocking thing about A Wolf at the Door is that it actually won 7 major Brazilian cinema awards. It's supposedly modeled on Fatal Attraction but FA at least had style and attitude. For a cautionary tale of adultery this is most plodding. Some of the praise heaped on it notes that it's the director's first film. Ok, can't argue with that but I also can't figure out why it was made. One of the most pointless 100 minutes I've spent watching a film. This is a cautionary review if you're thinking about renting it.

Within the first few frames of A Wolf at the Door, a kidnapping of a six year old girl sets things into motion or should I say into slow motion. This sex, lies and interrogations deconstructs a crime of passion through the eyes of the mother, her cheating husband and a possible suspect. With everyone at fault and no one copping to it - the movie starts to unravel. And since the focus is on motivation - suspense never builds. In fact, by the end of this grim tale, I was wondering “why” I put myself through it.
