When alls said and done VC4 is a behemoth of a game with insane replay value, and a great cast of characters. Here’s hoping the next entry can wow us all over again.

A funny action turn-based strategy taking place in an alternative World War I. Imaginative missions, weapon and character development and stylish graphics. [Issue#290]

Even if you're not already a fan, Valkyria Chronicles 4's engaging story and interesting characters will win you over with a WW2-inspired setting that doesn't shy away from dark subject matter. For veterans of the series, this new chapter will give you a good run for your money, despite some unintuitive menus and wonky character mechanics.

I think anyone who enjoyed VC1 will enjoy this but I’d probably recommend those new to the series to start with the original. VC4 offers some really interesting gameplay tweaks and probably has better combat overall however I think the story is not as good as VC1. Overall a very fun game and worth a purchase.

With the addition of new classes, a different perspective from VC1, and a fun new cast of characters to follow, Valkyria Chronicles 4 is a top tier alternative to those who want something familiar to XCOM, but with its own little quirks to make it different enough. The first immediate striking thing is that art style, insuring that the game will age incredibly well in terms of visuals. Then there's the addition of the new Grenadier class, who use portable artillery to deal long range explosive damage. The story is incredibly well told, acting as an allegory for WW2/WW1, but with more fantastical elements. And the personal quirks of characters can make them ideal, or the worst soldiers for certain battlefields, which can make careful planning go a long way. All and all, Valkyria Chronicles is a peak franchise that deserves more love, and 4 shows off all the improvements the series has made.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is a great SRPG game, in a WW2 inspired setting. The story is good, and the main characters are great. (It's not realistic if youre looking for a realistic war SRPG game). It has alot of RPG elements in terms of upgrading equipment and vehicles. Some battles can be pretty long. Art style and music is great. Would recommend if you want to get into this genre. 8.4 / 10

For the first time since the very first Valkyria Chronicles, it feels like the series has realized its full potential. It’s easily the longest Valkyria game yet, but it doesn’t suffer for it. Longtime fans have a lot to love here and for newcomers, it’s the very best place to try the series out.

Есть качественный сюжет с развитием персонажей и сохранение духа серии. Еще понравилось разнообразие стратегических решений, некоторые из которых могут привести к победе даже в удручающих ситуациях P.S. Теперь я прошёл все 4 части

Valkyria Chronicles 4 does the franchise justice, possibly more than any other Valkyria Chronicles title. If you are looking for a good new strategy game, this should be on your radar.

A true sequel for the franchise. It’s not a huge evolution, but it is good and very respectful and we’re sure fans will appreciate that.

More a remake than a sequel but still a welcome return for one of the most original and distinctive genre mash-ups of recent years.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 brings the series back to its roots and polishes that experience to a shine. It’s a return to form for the decade-old tactical RPG series and its best entry to date, albeit playing it extremely safe. While it does iron out some of the kinks that plagued its predecessors, it does little else.

Great game, it's worst your time and money. There are some frustrating parts but it worth it overall.

really good game, cool mechanic, great graphic, amazing story. my only problem is that its sometimes just rushing down your enemy as fast as possible instead of making strategic moves because of the rank system. havent played the dlc tho my only complain is that for some reason in run really bad on my device, this is very true on some map with barely powerpoint fps, funny enough if you played "too long" the game will become more laggy for every stage you play. i would have give this 9/10 but this really let me down so hard

I was very much looking forward to this, having greatly enjoyed the first game years ago, but unfortunately with the small (miniscule) amount of improvement here it ends up feeling like a rehash. Don't get me wrong, the story and campaign are completely original and feature new characters and a few new mechanics. But pretty early it starts to feel overly familiar, and with the repetitive nature of the dialogue and the constant intrusion of tutorials and cutscenes, it becomes a chore to play this game. The mandatory tutorials are especially tedious considering that most of the gameplay is identical to the first entry. So returning players will be mashing X to speed through them, but in the event that you fail a mission you will be forced to sit through all these tutorials again. The same goes for the cutscenes, which would be more cute and charming by way of introducing a new enemy or mechanic if they weren't overly wordy. As things stand you will grow tired of seeing the characters constantly interrupt the flow of battle. I wish the game kept note of which tutorials and cutscenes you've viewed before and offered a menu option to not present them again if you retry a mission at the very least. Overall, the presentation is slow and maddening, especially if you end up repeating missions As for the actual gameplay and battles, if you've played Valkyria Chronicles 1 there won't be much here to surprise you. Even with a few new types of units and more complex battlefields, each battle usually devolves into simple trial and error. And the enemy A.I. is too easy by far so you are rarely punished for overextending to the point of having to retry or even change deployment positions. By contrast, the few new mechanics introduced are often confusing or ineffective, so you'll often fall back on tried-and-true strategies instead of truly experimenting. So instead of facing mounting challenges that force you to think creatively, it feels more like following instructions. The story gets some points for more a diverse cast, featuring grunts but also more officers. However, it is presented in such a simple fashion that it's not likely any of these characters will become anyone's favorite. At best it's tolerable, at worst it can be obnoxious. That said, some early awkwardness is ironed out in side missions that add a lot to the charm of the cast. Hardcore fans of VC1 will find a more-of-the-same type enjoyment here, but all others are encouraged to wait for a sale and/or just buy the original, which features a much more enjoyable story.

I have never played this series but I think it could be bomb by trailer but it isnt. I get its anime but characters feels like they play hide and seek with friends and not fighting a war. The annoying tons of dialogues about trivial things is cherry on top. Too many mechanics that you must focus how to learn it. I thought I play a game not study in university lol Areas are just scenery and dont have some real battle use. I must say art style is great and original and also personalities of protagonist. If this will be a romance they will fit well. Not really fun for me.

I want to give this game a high score, but there are several factors that force me to score it low. The RNG for attack accuracy is just brutal. One bad roll and the mission will be a failure. I missed 2 tank shots on a tanks weak spot in a row. Then my engineer gets one-shotted by an enemy Lancer from long range. The rankings system is based solely on the number of turns taken. In one mission you can get an A-Rank by running one unit through the enemy lines. Pretty much to do well you need to load the mission, take one turn and then start the missions again. Skill is barely a factor in this game. The story is awesome and the characters are very likeable. There is a load of content which is great. It is all let down though by my earlier points. This review is definitive and the only one worth listening to. Those who game this game a 10 are fanboys.
SummaryA Continent Engulfed in the Bitter Flames of War. Commander Claude Wallace and his childhood friends set out to fight in a desperate war, but bone-chilling blizzards, waves of imperial soldiers, and the godlike powers of the Valkyria stand between them and victory.
