UNBEATABLE is a clear passion project that proves the rhythm genre can be about much more than just flashy tracks and timed button presses. Its story is engaging, the characters are vibrant and full of energy, and the soundtrack is packed with absolute bangers.

There are bold ideas floating around Unbeatable's ether, but for the most part it feels like an underpowered B-side. [Issue#420, p.102]

The developers postponed the game's release by a month at the last minute, and we can't help feeling that the game would have benefited from a little more delay. Unbeatable is unpolished and unfinished. It's rebellious and punk, sure, but at times it's also frustrating. With the addition of story mode and the integration of numerous mini-games, Unbeatable tries to be too many things at once, and as a result, the game doesn't always hit the right note. But for the modest price of 28 euros, you can't possibly feel cheated.

If UNBEATABLE were just an animation, I could say it’s visually appealing with a nice art style, but as a game, it’s really weak. It has neither engaging gameplay nor a compelling story. Even the dialogues lack depth—they mostly feel like the characters are just reading lines off a script, with no real emotion coming through! It’s really unfortunate that the game doesn’t deliver good gameplay, especially since I expected it to be more gameplay-focused rather than story-driven. Honestly, it was a letdown.

UNBEATABLE is a beautiful **** narrative is beautiful, the visuals are beautiful, and the music is beautiful. This game is filled with passion, and it shows. The story is filled with deep emotions, and leaves you feeling something. This game is not perfect. There are bugs. But honestly? That doesn’t really matter, at least for me. UNBEATABLE does its painting with a lot of dirt. Because that is what UNBEATABLE is. It’s a game that tells a story, a game that makes you feel something. It’s not a game that gives you the most perfect flawless experience ever. And that’s okay. UNBEATABLE changed my life. And I’m serious, by the way. It genuinely showed me the power of a narrative story. The emotions that a game can make out feel. UNBEATABLE is one of, if not my favorite game of all time. Without a doubt it is my 2025 GOTY. UNBEATABLE is a truly special game, and I cannot recommend it enough. so please, play unbeatable <3

UNBEATABLE combines rhythm gaming with a heartfelt story and incredible characters. The title is punk throughout, both in its messaging and its nontraditional approach to storytelling, and at times feels more like an interactive music video than a video game. In the end, it truly is an “UNBEATABLE” experience.

UNBEATABLE is a standout rhythm game that fuses stylish anime-inspired visuals with a bold narrative and a unique combat-based music system. Its story mode surprises with emotional depth and memorable characters, while the arcade mode delivers replayability through over 70 tracks and a satisfying challenge curve. Though its two-button control scheme may take time to master and some gameplay segments in story mode feel bloated, the game’s commitment to its artistic vision and mechanical flair make it a must-play for rhythm fans seeking something fresh and fearless.

Playing UNBEATABLE makes you feel like you’re watching pirated episodes of your favourite show. Its janky narrative structure and limited content make it feel appropriately criminal to grow attached. However, while frustrating at times, these jagged edges are part of the charm. UNBEATABLE feels like an unapologetic guilty pleasure.

UNBEATABLE is an unapologetically stylish and vibrant rhythm narrative-adventure game that combines engaging rhythm gameplay, stunning audio-visual presentation, and a colorful cast to meet. However, it's clearly unpolished with its number of technical and visual issues, unfortunately lending itself to a dampened gameplay experience, as well as a painfully slow paced narrative that can scare off other intrigued players. Nevertheless, with a bit more shine, it will become an UNBEATABLE gem in the rhythm scene in its own right.

UNBEATABLE absolutely offers tons of style and an exceptional soundtrack, but sometimes I felt a bit let down by the execution of the story and its rhythm game elements. The idea behind the narrative is amazing and I love the plot, but I hated the sharp transitions that sometimes made it feel choppy. The traditional rhythm game moments are fantastic, especially in the arcade mode when you can savor all the tracks and take on challenges, but sometimes the rhythm minigames missed the mark for me. It very much feels like a title where, while it’s quite enjoyable now, I think it will be even better in a few weeks after some patches.

Unbeatable is an extraordinary game to see and to hear: the animations, the style that looks like it came straight out of a ’90s anime, the colorful imagery of a world where music has no right to exist. And yet it does exist: loud, punk, rock, rebellious, coming from deep within, and at other times it embraces you, gently and warmly. However, the sum of its parts is far below what one would expect. It is too imprecise to be a good rhythm game: the note charts are confusing, input windows are off, and the feedback from the notes leaves much to be desired. On top of that, even after such a long wait and last month’s delay, the bug and glitch situation is still far from ideal. With a heavy heart over this missed opportunity, we hope that Unbeatable can at least serve as a foundation for something greater, through continuous updates, additional tracks, and new options.

im so torn with this game because it's a buggy broken mess at the moment, nothing makes sense and it flows really stilted between scenes and timelines dont work and yet it's so beautiful and i love it to bits
i think the weird pacing works in its favour but i can see how it could turn people away

extremely low start, lot of dialogue with nothing much that is said, the part of the "rythm game" is ok at best and happens waaay to rarely. Some section are dragged a lot and very boring (prison), overall i wouldnt recomend it

Genuinely one of the most passionate, heartfelt games I have ever played. The music, art style, and story are incredible, and the story in particular is quite intriguing. The rhythm gameplay is addicting and possibly one of the best examples of an "easy to learn, difficult to master" scenario. The voice acting is really well done, with a lot of standout moments. The humor is great, and the voice acting only amplifies it. Prisonball is prisonball. The game has this energy to it that grabs your attention as soon as you launch it and start the setup sequence for the first time. The sheer love and passion put into it is undeniable. Even with its current jank in story mode, it does everything so unapologetically that it either doesn't matter. With all of that said, if the game didn't fully capture your attention immediately upon seeing it, but you still want to play it, I would recommend waiting around a month or so from launch to experience the story. Despite how genuinely amazing it is, it's quite unpolished in certain areas, which could detract from some people's experience, especially for those who aren't fully dedicated to finishing it. Some scene transitions are especially rough at the moment. Even with this, many of those little imperfections make it feel more real, more natural, more human. Though, everything is so minor that, for the most part, I would expect it to be fixed quite quickly. As of writing this, they have already pushed out three patches within the week since launch and are planning to add features such as an episode select before their team goes on winter break. All in all, it's already one of my favorite games of all time.
SummaryUNBEATABLE is a rhythm adventure where music is illegal and you do crimes. Follow the story of Beat and her band on the run, in a narrative experience full of big emotions powered by arcade-flawless rhythm gameplay.
