Thronebreaker is a feast for those collectible card games fans who don’t care for online play or tournaments and instead would like to follow a well-written story that introduces an array of vivid characters and presents you with tough choices. [12/2018, p.56]

Overall, Thronebreaker is a revolutionary game within the CCG genre, and I hope other companies take note. With a 40-hour story to support an engaging card game, there's nothing else quite like it, and its unique nature is to its overall benefit. It's made me realize how much I can and do enjoy card games when they're done right.

A singleplayer version of Gwent, that sounds boring, but it actually is amusing. It's written very well and tactical it knows how to challenge a gamer.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is a fantastic game because it masterfully blends rich storytelling with clever, card-based strategy gameplay. Every decision feels meaningful, shaping both the narrative and the world around you. Its hand-painted visuals, deep characters, and moral complexity capture the essence of The Witcher universe while offering a fresh, engaging experience. A real pity no more "Witcher Tales" came after it.

DEI ALERT
Only for games fans, and considering that I play it in 2025 more for Netflix show fans. And of course for lovers of Gewnt multiplayer game. From the plot perspective action is set during events shown in Withcher's books, but the story is mostly altered and many times it contradicts the events and facts from the books. The good thing is that the game has many plot choices, which have consequences later. Gameplay - its basically a single-player Gwent with text boxes which reminds me paragraph game. The game shows the player a text box with 2 or more choices. Some of them have described instant results (mostly resources or army morale), and some of them will have results later. If someone is allergic to DEI should avoid this game. Plot and characters have a strong influence of early DEI influence on gaming. Music is not good not terrible. As a Pole and fan of Polish dubbing, I can say this is well done.

50 hours in to the game. Clinically sub optimized interface and user experience. playin and placing cards in gwent in a f))king pain (especially for fast thinking players). Lacks the option to make the character move faster (from the beginning). After act 2/3 the game gets repetivite and LACKS strong enemies. Very WEIRD pacing choices. Game tells you to chase the wedding bandits, yet gives you no indicaation how to do that (Act 1) THE AVALANCHE deserves for me to give the game a negative score. I **** hate it. Why. Just why. WHY. You just punish the player without any reason any purpose, NO THIS IS NOT A SPOILER because the event makes no sense. it isnt a consequence of any choices (i didnt attack the nilfgardian wagoon). This game was purposely made to make the player suffer.
I like cdpr im sorry but im angry, will finish maybe will come back
i recommend picking it up- for now, no

An amazing marriage of world-class storytelling and strategic card gaming, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is a fantastic RPG in its own right.

It is rare that a multi-genre game can be successful in more than one of its mechanics, but Thronebreaker is simultaneously an excellently written story, an entertaining isometric RPG, and an addictive and engaging card game. Finally, for fans of The Witcher universe, it gives us another excuse to live in that richly-imagined world. For me at least, Thronebreaker came out of nowhere and was a very happy surprise indeed.

I have never liked games like this one but since I am a big The Witcher 3 fan I decided to give it a try and to my surprise it was very good. Very good story and gameplay with decisions that impact the story. The music is also as good as The Witcher 3. If you liked The Witcher 3 you will most likely love this game too! Recommended

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales looks like a simple proposal in the beginning, but it feels deep when we explore its guts. A new chapter in the world of Geralt of Rivia in which we will feel the cold breath of war between The Northern Kingdoms and Nilfgaard.

The standalone Gwent release is free on GOG, and I encourage those who enjoy it to shell out the money for Thronebreaker, a strong expansion of both the base game and the Witcher universe. Geralt’s portion of this story may have concluded, but the folks at CD Projekt RED seem committed to sharing more tales from this world, and I couldn’t be more excited.

The mixture of roleplaying, card strategy, fantasy and turnbased tactics within the world of The Witcher works surprisingly well.

Thronebreaker struggles as a card game but excels as a Witcher game due to its rich narrative and excellent, if simple, worldbuilding.

Other tcg are just more fun, ranging from hearthstone to magic the gathering. This is really only if you are a Witcher fan or you are banned by one of the mentioned games.

Not really GEENT at all when nearly every battle is a stupid "puzzle" which you can just retry over and over until you get it...this is not what I signed up for. I wanted to build a deck and grow it, but nope, that's not much of the game as you'll be hitting scores of 100 within an hour, which pretty much kills any sense of getting stronger. Tiny little click and hold spots all freaking over...spoiler, not fun to harvest! Only good parts are the dialogues. Glad it did bad so they can put their resources elsewhere since this was rightfully a flop and a half.
SummaryFrom the creators of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt comes a brand new tale set in the brutal and twisted universe of witcher Geralt of Rivia. The world stands on the verge of chaos, as the tensions between the power-hungry Nilfgaardian Empire and proud Northern Realms grow. Facing an imminent invasion, Meve — war-veteran Queen of Lyria and Riv... Read More
