The graphics may be dated, but it's still an amazing game. [Dec 2001, p.111]

Despite a high level of difficulty, the game is proof positive that the original PlayStation still has plenty of life left within.

The story is as good as ever and backed by some of the best sound of any PSone game and a smattering of smooth FMV scenes the atmosphere is bang up there with the best.

Another flawless sequel to the series, this entry offers a deeper understanding of each character's backstory, allowing players to assume the roles of Gabe, Lian, Lawrence, and Teresa, with the bonus of mini-games and an improved deathmatch mode. 5/5 stars.

Such an underrated gem. In some aspects, like music and missions this is my favourite part, although the story was worse than its predecessors, but regardless it is an excellent game.

So we finally end the TRUE original trilogy that ended the best it could’ve imo. The sequels just were unnecessary & a huge disappointment. However, this was also disappointing given the fact it doesn’t raise any stakes or add anything meaningful to the story or gameplay. The graphics weren’t even improved that much either. The story is the biggest problem as the backstory of everyone wasn’t that interesting nor helped progress the plot. The gameplay was pretty good but imo still worse than the second one. The ending I feel helped save the story from being a mediocre useless addition. The ending is nihilistic yet realistic. Overall, it’s good enough & I think it’s worth your time. Just be warned the story is kinda meh but the gameplay is fun.

The gameplay still delivers thrilling combat that’s focused less on stealth and much more on action.

Graphically solid, slickly presented, and sporting a solid selection of mission types in a complex storyline, SF3 is perhaps the last great PSX action title. [Jan 2002, p.88]
74
The controls are simple enough to master that you shouldn't have to pause the game to look at the manual just to figure out how to pull off a stunt.
65
This is basically the same game as the last two – this series just refuses to evolve. [Dec 2001, p.262]

Everyone in general is pretty stiff, and trying to control our hero while dodging the insane amount of enemies is more chore than thrill.

Syphon Filter 3 is a quality film with B-movie gameplay. The visuals, music, and CG are all top-notch, but the chewy gameplay center gets old after a few bites.

**Syphon Filter 3** was my introduction to the series, and I absolutely loved it. As the first game I played in the saga, it instantly hooked me with its intense action, clever stealth mechanics, and gripping storyline. The game built on the strengths of its predecessors while adding new features that made it feel fresh and exciting. The varied missions and locations kept the gameplay dynamic and engaging, making it a standout title.

Gabe and his team are suspected of treason and summoned to prove their innocence. The team recounts the incidence that led to this moment whilst Gabe tries to rid the world of Syphon Filter once and for all. Developers 989 Studios seemed to rest on their laurels when it came to the third game in the Syphon Filter series. With virtually nothing in the way of new ideas it still made for a playable stealth/action hybrid title but it was hard to not feel you’d seen it all before.
