Thinking one step ahead and considering every move is the name of the game in Shogun Showdown. The challenging gameplay is frustrating at first, but will eventually draw you in.

Shogun Showdown is a rare gem. One of those games that hook you from the very first round and keep pulling you back for more. The addictive gameplay loop, the strategic depth, and the thrill of unlocking new cards, upgrades, and characters are all part of what makes it so compelling. Shogun Showdown is the kind of game that reminds you why gaming is such an incredible experience. And trust me, once you start, you’ll be just as hooked as I am.

While I appreciate that Shogun Showdown distills the roguelike experience down to its essence, the overall speed of play is too slow thanks to preparing attacks and dealing with facing during fights, and this pacing is a big problem for a roguelike since they’re built on frequent runs and repeat plays. Even so, there’s a lot to like here for fans of the theme, or for roguelike players wanting something a little different.

An amazing hidden gem that trails on the **** success of Slay the Spire, and successfully transforms it into a turn based ninja bonanza. This game has style, lotsand lots of it. Very easy to play, rather forgiving for the genre (won easily my first match, and climbed difficulty with not too much problems compared to other roguelikes).
But the moment you master it, the moment you start making the turns go fast and you start to combo....this game is like no other.
Breakneck action and speed, attacks flying everywhere, stuff getting annihilated, multipliers all over.... Man this game is good. There is much to polish, many little decision that could have been better, but at its core it's genius, and works really really well. Hiddengem here everybody

This game is so addictive ! There is a lot of quests to do. You can choose between so many weapons, spells and abilities. Of course, there are less builds options than in Binding of Isaac, but the numbre of strategies and combos you can think is huge !

A roguelite deckbuilder has finally arrived to properly revamp the gameplay that Slay the Spire seemed to have carved in stone. The management of our warrior's movement adds a lot of tactics to the fighting, and the non-draw deck abilities almost completely eliminate the luck factor by requiring extensive planning of one's moves, especially when trying to chain combos to eliminate multiple foes at once. The progression is the same as usual, alternating between battles and refreshment shops, but many other new features have been introduced.

Easily one of the best turn-based strategy games I've ever played. Addictive and polished to a fine sheen. Banger soundtrack too. Play the demo and you'll know if this game is for you in just a few minutes. And if it clicks for you, it will click hard!

This wonderfully clever strategy roguelike demands your best, and it deserves to get it.

A near flawless roguelike, Shogun Showdown flaunts excellent depth, and an easy-to-learn but hard to master gameplay loop.

Shogun Showdown has one of the most focused designs I’ve recently encountered in the rogue-lite space. It is very easy to understand its movement and tile use mechanics, but it is very hard to master them and get through a location with minimal health losses. Still, there’s enough variety that it rarely feels repetitive. The lack of a proper narrative is only partially compensated for by the character and world design. Unlocks, handled via skills, can feel slow. But Shogun Showdown is impressive enough mechanically to satisfy any fan of its genre and has the potential to draw newcomers to it.

Game is great and a lot of fun on the steam deck. The core gameplay loop is satisfying and winning with all characters already should give you enough content for the money with all characters feeling different enough and the customization possibilities during a run. After that there’s still way more to go with the ascension system which I find more satisfying than some others since it’s more compact. Six more difficulties feel more surmountable than twenty as in StS for example. I think that’s one of my favorite things about the game actually that the „endgame“ which many people care about in roguelites is just a bit more contained and smaller in scale.

A perfect roguelike, massive replayability, gorgeous graphics and the music soundtrack kicks ass so hard. I recommend this doubly so on a handheld like Switch.

I played the demo for this and immediately after one run I bought it knowing this was gonna be something special.
Incredible game design and a breath of fresh air in the indie scene. Such a unique roguelike with really tight, responsive controls, pretty pixel art and a fantastic ost. Checks all the boxes. Try the demo if you're on the fence and thank me later.
Also, I find the lack of reviews for this game so far baffling. What is up with that?
