Pumpkin Jack

Pumpkin Jack is a superb game, but its flaws come baring teeth once the glass shatters and you start to notice them. The combat is fun and rewarding, the writing and story are fantastic, but there are certain parts of the game that fall short. Plus, for no more than 3 hours of playtime to finish, that $30 price tag is pretty hefty. Putting that aside, every single moment of that short playtime is fantastic. I loved every minute of it, and there’s no doubt that developer Nicolas Meyssonnier made something extra special here.

Its art design is excellent, its pacing is spot-on and it has a light-hearted approach to its dark-themed subject that consistently takes real menace out of the premise. Pumpkin Jack’s combat my lack the depth of many ARPGs, but the game is short enough that this never becomes a problem. Although it is a Halloween-flavored game, there’s no reason not to enjoy it any time of the year.

Without wanting to offer a truly innovative experience, Pumpkin Jack is a tribute to old 3D platform games. Nicolas Meysonnier's title is inspired by the greatest and offers a satisfactory experience although marred by a limited lifespan and a somewhat repetitive aspect.

Pumpkin Jack is a charmingly old-school game that would fit perfectly into the PS1 era. It’s colorful, full of humor, and offers huge, well-designed levels. It tries many different ways to mix up the gameplay, which is great, but all these efforts are too safe to bring any real surprises. [13/2020, p.71]

Pumpkin Jack is a fun and nostalgic title that is perfectly placed to be your Halloween game this year. Highly recommended for any fans of old school platforming adventures, but also worth checking out for the spookier sorts too. It doesn’t revolutionise anything, but it also doesn’t outstay its welcome, and the fact that it is the work of a solo developer makes it even more impressive. This particular pumpkin deserves to carve out some of your seasonal gaming time.

Pumpkin Jack is overall an alright game. Every aspect added to it wasn’t deepening the depths of the ocean, but rather lengthening the size of the kiddie pool. Many things were added, but it felt like an attempt to hide its lack of depth because of the terrible implementation.

Pretty nice 3D platformer action game. Story is humorous and decently written, game is filled with jokes and puns. Music is great and visuals are very good. Gameplay lacks a little - weapons are very similar to each other and character movement is a little out of control, and that makes bigger fights a little random/annoying. Game would benefit much from "lock on enemies" system - when you're dodging enemies attacks, Jack sometimes doesn't turn back and attack air instead. Summing up is nice little game for couple of hours, it took me 7 hours to finish and I did most of the collectibles. Buy on discount and enjoy :)

This game is from 2020, but it has become a classic for me. I always go back to it with pleasure!

Un gioco senza troppe pretese, con meccaniche platform classiche. Realizzato da una sola persona risulta anche divertente a tratti ma alla lunga i difetti si fanno sentire. In particolare la gestione della telecamera da mal di testa, una certa imprecisione nei comandi e, soprattutto, alcuni "mini-giochi" davvero mal riusciti (la corsa sui carri, per esempio e, soprattutto, l'orribile e lunghissimo "gioco dei pacchi di Babbo Natale") non consentono di raggiungere la sufficienza. Peccato.

Souls like bir oyun olarak düşündüm ama alakası bile yokmuş meğerse. Lineer , kendi tarzında ilerleyen tatlı minik bir oyunmuş ama indie bir oyun olduğundan ötürü çok da mükemmel yapmıyor yaptıklarını. Mesela en kötüsü ve bunlardan en göze çarpanı oyun temposu. Aşırı yavaş ki can sıkıyor keşke biraz daha hızlı olsaymış. 1,5x olsa bu oyun tadından yenmez. Hikayesi de biraz çocukça ve karakterler hikayede anlatılanlar gibi hissettirmiyor sana. Sonra mesela aksiyonu çok yavan hem mekaniksel olarak hem de karakter çeşitliliği olarak. Aslında süresine göre oldukça yeterli ama her saniye çıktıklarından ve 1-2 tanesi dışında sana hiçbir zorluk teşkil etmediğinden çoğu gereksiz. Her bölüm kendi içerisinde mini gamelere sahip ki oldukça iyi yapılmışlar bunları sevdim oyunda sana en çok zevk veren bölümler bunlar. Zor olmayan boss savaşlarına da sahip ama varlıkları yokluklarından daha iyi yani olması iyi olmuş. Platform ögelerine sahip olmasına rağmen oldukça yavan ve basit yani özel hissettirmiyor. Kısacası oyun kendi çapında özgün ve iyi yanlara sahip ama genel kitlesi büyük olarak tahmin ediyorum ki küçük çocuklara özel yapılmış. Gerek oynanışı olsun gerek oyunun mizahı olsun. Bu yüzden ben çok yükselemedim buna ama seveni illa olur. İndie avcısıysanız oynayabilirsiniz öneriyorum.🅑🅞🅚
