It's one hell of a good time.

It's easily worthy of a spot alongside the best giant-robot games ever. [Nov 2002, p.300]

This was a hidden gem I happened upon at blockbuster. Hours of mech customization and days of mech destruction. Somehow, the AI opponents are actually good, but playing with friends is better. 9/10 would buy an OG xbox to play it again.

My experience with this game was positive. Just enough challenge to keep me compelled, and while it was very straightforward and simplistic, I feel that's where it really shined. It's simply a mech deathmatch game. That's it, no confusing plot twists. If you don't play it for an extended period of time, you can still pick right up where you left off without any problems. There's enough customization options to keep you goal oriented as you smash up opponents. When my arsenal of XBOX games felt overplayed and tired, I could always pop in Phantom Crash for some mindless fun!

Ruthlessly hunting down other mechs in Stealth mode becomes the favored approach in the heat of battle, and makes for amazingly fun, intense gameplay. [Winter 2002, p.96]

The game could've benefited from a greater number of arenas, a more diverse variety of scoobees, and more gameplay modes.

As engaging as the game can be, the action has a tendency to seemingly last forever at times, forcing you retire early just for the sake of a breather.

It features some nicely executed gameplay concepts, but all this is too shallow and repetitive to warrant a higher score.

Hardcore item-management fetishists might find some joy here, there’s simply not enough balance or content for Phantom Crash to stand on its own, much less measure up to the competition (I’m looking at you, "Armored Core 3").

Not the best of all games, but I like the feeling that you are kind of on-a-journey and are contantly improving ven though it is not an RPG. Probably one of the longest games for me to ever have finished which can be both a good and bad thing. The music was strange. There was no real story, but it was still quite a fun game. It wouldn't cost much to get this game off E-bay, but I suggest anyone who like trying different games just to have a look at this one
