Motorstorm is pretty much the best off-road driving simulation ever to grace a console. The physics are so accurate, yet altered for arcade like effect, and feel so right that the development team must have had at least a couple Physics PhD’s on staff to pull off such a feat. [JPN Import]
One of Motorstorm's big successes is that it demands of you things that other racers don't even bother to ask. You'll have to learn every nook and cranny of the terrain before you can drive around courses with confidence. [JPN Import]

The ONLY reason this doesn't get a 10 is because MotorStorm: Pacific Rift is basically a better version of this. MotorStorm is a racing game unlike any other, you have multiple classes of off-road vehicles such as dirt bikes, ATVs, rally cars, mud pluggers, buggies, trophy trucks, and even big rigs. You take these supercharged off-road machines and race them on the most insane courses Monument Valley has to offer, each course containing multiple routes to choose from at any given point to suit your road-weapon of choice and many shortcuts to give you the competitive edge. 10 seconds into every race, every racer gains access to their boost which, unlike most other arcade racers, is infinite. Yeah, in MotorStorm you get UNLIMITED boost.. with one catch... y'see, the boost may be infinite, but it builds heat (shown by the boost bar on the bottom left corner) if the bar fills, your car overheats and explodes. So don't be afraid to use it, but use it strategically! While it's not too common for the game to let you choose your car class, each class does have their own strengths and weaknesses: Dirt bikes are quick, nimble, and can take many routes other, heavier vehicles, can't. This comes at the cost of being bogged down in mud and being supremely fragile, though. Stay on the higher routes, and be on-guard always. ATVs are similar to bikes. They're also very quick and nimble and can take more shortcuts, however ATVs don't get bogged down in mud like bikes do. This comes at the downside of being not quiiite as nimble as bikes are, and also still being very fragile. Buggies are a great all-rounder vehicles. They can take a bit of a beating, and have great handling and speed. Mud isn't friendly to buggies, but it isn't an outright hazard like it is to bikes. Buggies can also still be bullied by some of the heavier classes like trophy trucks and big rigs. Rally cars are also great all-rounder vehicles. They're more maneuverable and speedy than buggies at the cost of being slowed down more by mud. Again, though, steer clear of higher weight classes whenever possible. Mud pluggers, as their name suggests, are very well suited to muddy terrain. They're not the best handling, nor do they have the best top speed, but on courses with lots of mud, these heavy-duty buggies shine. Trophy trucks are one of the heaviest classes in the game, they can very easily clear bikes and ATVs out of the way and clear other obstacles in the road without much fuss. They do reasonably well in mud, and they can be pretty fast once they get going. Their biggest weakness is their handling, being much more slow and lumbering than most others. Big rigs are, simply put, terrifying. they may be slow to get up to speed and they may have the turning circle of a yacht, but once one gets up to speed not a single thing on the road is slowing it down. Not mud, not obstacles, and certainly not other racers. What big rigs lack in performance, they more than make up for in brute force.

Motorstorm 2006 takes me right back to the midst of debt and alcoholism. The debt part was buying the PS3 at near launch to play this game. And now I’ve been back to it again. It’s lost none of its arcarde and random chaotic fun. Most racers have numerous paths each favouring the different vehicles that you can choose from. Go high along the ramps and jumps on a motorcycle or go down deep and through the mud in a big rig. These different paths add numerous replay ability and will keep you coming back. Thunderous soundtrack accompanies you as you smash through the competition. Including Slipknot, Nirvana and Pendulum. Downsides are how ever a thing. Touch of slowdown when it gets too hectic and it is all very very brown. Overall it’s well worth a play. They don’t make them like this anymore.

As Xbox Fan, I love this PS Exclusive than any other exclusive games like Last of Us, God of War, etc. I got this back in a launch when I got my Xbox and PS3, it was a good game that plays this Racing game.

A truly excellent racing game, and a welcome addition to the PS3 canon. If it weren't for the lack of multiplayer this would score in the nineties. [JPN Import; Issue # 149, p.56]

The Japanese version feels like a demo - hugely entertaining for what it is, but severely truncated and ultimately disappointingly lacking on content. [JPN Import; Feb 2007, p.74]

The courses in MotorStorm are a real strong point. Well designed, they're challenging, but they also let you have fun. There aren't too many on offer - just eight - but every one of them is a sprawling playground for you to muck around in. [JPN Import]

Let's be excited about the fact that it still manages to feel incredibly fresh, immediate and exotic, in spite of its notoriety. Bolstered for its European release, it ought to be a classic, but right now it's simply excellent. [JPN Import]

Beyond my memories and nostalgia of this game, this game succeeded in every aspect and set an extremely high bar for graphics and intuitive racing gameplay at the time when it was released. This is a game where you can buy it and can't stop playing it!

PRESENTATION: graphics are amazing for 2006. And so are the physics: very satisfying to bump around and tear up the mud. BUT the framerate can be very bad, far below 30fps at busy times. And the brown stages all kinda look the same. Even worse is that some rocks are literally hard to see because everything is a shade of brown. Not a fan of the music. GAMEPLAY: all these different vehicles, and all the different routes on the tracks is a big part of the fun here. Along with the physics and arcade gameplay makes for a nice mix of realism and arcade. There are a few ramps that have wonky physics and make you crash, which can be frustrating. I would give it an 8/10, but there is one glaring issue: crazy rubber-banding AI at higher difficulties. Not only is the AI *insanely* aggressive (literally every lap someone suicides to knock you off), but they are also laughably fast when you are ahead of them. It's a joke, at full-boost, big rigs overtaking you left and right without boosting. Furthermore, the content is a bit bare bones. Online and Time trial would've been fun, but I'm playing this when the servers are down, so reviewing it as such. Still, it's a fun game for a few bucks and I don't regret it 7/10

Motorstorm: Monument Valley. Truly the world's most brutal off-road racing game, and possibly one of the best off-road racing games of our generation. Graphics are not the strong point of this game, but gameplay is. All vehicles are well designed as-well as the tracks.

its a bit fun iguess but the game just feels unpleasant to play. Its a shame that I didnt like the game because it could of been very fun and the maps were good but the driving is poor for a racing game.
