The game is fun to play, the combat is fun, the plot is fine, the twists are unpredictable, it’s functionally consistent (it can be used as a gallery of good practice examples when teaching game design), and it beats like a well-stitched heart made of several mammals inserted into a robot with a human head and an endless sense of humor. You'll laugh, you'll cry, this game will change your life, Bernard said, and I agree. [Issue#317]
The creepiest hand of cards you'll ever play, and one of the best pieces of interactive fiction I've seen in years.
The art style, mixed with the fun mechanic of deck building, puzzles, and overarching story is just phenomenal. And that my friends, is just Act I, at already 8 hours of playtime. Inscryption has three total acts, with much, much more content waiting for you to uncover. It has been a bit since I finished the game, but I haven’t been able to put out the review because of life things. Even so, months later, I still can’t get Inscryption out of my head. It’s just that good. You will not find a better bargain for your buck as far as story-rich horror games go.

Overall it's a good game, very enjoyable, but there are some MAJORLY broken things that make this good game a mediocre, annoying unbeatable game. The first big boss at the wooden house is unbeatable. I have every side thing, I have broken combos with the squirrel, and yet It's not enough. I'm not gonna waste more of my time with this boring game. I know its rogue like but rogue like does not mean 10 hours of trying and failing... it should have been like 2-3-4 hours of dying (because its lore also) and then beat the first big boss and win. But the overly broken gameplay is just disables this. I remember thinking that Far Cry 6 Vaas DLC was broken and boring, but this game is something else. Great idea, horrible design. Literally unplayable, unbeatable, unenjoyable.

Enfim, 9/10 comprem

Inscryption is a game that seeks to advance the medium, challenge the player and make him participate in something huge. This would be enough to consider it a great title, but on top of that it is brilliantly designed and the characters and story will not be easily forgotten

At first glance, it seems like a simple horror-themed card game. You're trying to survive in a dark room against a mysterious opponent. But Inscryption is so much more than that. Every new mechanic and every surprising twist peels back the layers of the game, revealing something completely different underneath. The card game mechanics are fantastic in themselves. They force deep thought but also allow for creativity. Sacrificing cards, strengthening them, finding new combinations... Every decision feels important and satisfying. The atmosphere is also superb. The tense music, the disturbing sounds, the dark visuals... It completely draws you in. But these aren't even the most impressive aspects of the game. The storytelling, the meta-narrative layers, how the game plays with itself... these are what make Inscryption unforgettable.

This game is a must play. It is so refreshing and unique in its own way. It messes with the player from the very first title screen all the way to the end. The game does stuff i have never experienced in other games. Just go in blind and have a great experience!

Inscryption is another great experience from Daniel Mullins and his studio. Their take on the already very crowded card game and rogue combination is a unique but recognizable one. I liked the combat, the level of complexity, the challenge posed by the bosses. And I loved the way it integrates with the wider world of the game and the story it tells. I would like to see more use for the sacrifice mechanic and some extra ways to cheat the rules. But self-aware creatures, cards that immortalize failed runs, and general creepiness add a lot to the core concepts. Inscryption has all the necessary ingredients to set a new standard of quality for its genre and keep fans engaged for tens of hours.

Hey Poor Player
Inscryption is refreshingly unique. With all the roguelike deckbuilders popping up these days, they can all start to blend together. Inscryption manages to stand out from the crowd in all the best ways. Complex card strategies blend with escape room puzzles far better than should be possible. And the whole package is wrapped in such perfectly, wonderfully creepy trappings that it’s perfect for the Halloween season. Just remember: don’t ever assume you’ve reached the end.

Even if you feel extremely tired from the oversaturation of card-based games you should give Inscryption a change. Its fresh take on the genre offers an especially clever satire of the card-based motif and an overall experience that in the end feels like a well-crafted story-based game disguised as a roguelike. Its full story comes to an end at around 8 hours, but not before it provides a wealth of unexpected twists and turns in both its gameplay and presentation.

The game is an unholy hybrid of a roguelike deck-builder and first-person escape-room experience that reveals itself to be a grand reflection of and meditation on lives lived within a bubble.

At its best when it's strangest, Inscryption doesn't know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em.

Interesting game. Inscryption is pretty decent, an adventure that changes gameplay and art per acts, tons of secrets, fun gameplay and a interesting lore. Gameplay wise game is divided into 3 acts that play pretty different. They are each different in gameplay and style each with its own secrets. The first act is pretty fun, explorable, filled with secrets, great art style and a nice pacing. Second one and third one are kinda spoiler ish, but they change, the second one is more about strategy, you do your deck and also have a little adventure. The third one is similar to the first but its less luck based and more skill. The first one is by far the best, well done gameplay system and mechanics, more secrets than any other act, characters, a very interesting place you can walk on and its kind of short but it hits the sweetspot. Art style and visuals are interesting, they are done with care and suprisingly good, the first and third act have a dark tone while the second ressembles more like a classic rpg (a lot darker). I liked most of the designs and i liked how unique it looks. Story wise, there are 2 parts. The direct one which is easy to understand, but it is kinda generic, the first act does a good job in keeping it mysterious and interesting, while the second and third kind of abandon that or at least doesnt execute it as well as the first. You have the indirect one, told trough IRL videos and secrets hidden in the game which is pretty complicated, but can be fun. As for other stuff, OST was decent, nothing id listen but fits the game neatly and thats more than enough. Controls and gameplay is agile for experienced players but you can play it slow until you know more the stuff. Its a fun experience, Worth 7-10$, it doesnt last long, after whatever time you take on act 1, the others are 2 hours each, second maybe less, third, maybe more. First like an average of 3 hours, but if you like discovering secrets maybe more

A fun game for the first 1/3 but then a twist COMPLETELY changes the game for this unique and interesting dark card game to something that pushes the Atari 2600 to its graphical limits So sorry! Its not fun building a deck for a game only to throw it all away and make you play a new card game with a new deck.

SummaryInscryption is an inky black card-based odyssey that blends the deckbuilding roguelike, escape-room style puzzles, and psychological horror into a blood-laced smoothie. Darker still are the secrets inscrybed upon the cards...
