A nail-biting triumph that is without equal in the extraction shooter genre, Hunt: Showdown 1896’s eye-opening overhaul couldn’t come at a better time. With unmatched atmospherics, a thoroughly detailed world rife with grotesqueness to immerse yourself in and some of the most keenly honed risk and reward mechanics ever seen in the genre, Hunt: Showdown 1896 is arguably now more essential than it ever was.
The Hunt: Showdown 1896 might be the best extraction shooter out there right now. It marries weapons and traits into a meaningful character loadouts with solid gameplay mechanics set against a gritty, horrific world. But this won't be news to Hunt veterans, to whom this latest update and upgrade will ultimately be best enjoyed. The onboarding experience seems a bit of a bridge too far to really welcome in new blood to mire of the bayou or chill of the mountains. However, if you have some friends to jump in together, and if you're willing to stick it out to really level up in this game, you will surely be rewarded for your sweat and tears.
something I’m used to with other titles. The shooting range is amazing. Most games I play especially FPS do not have this and it baffles me. Not only that, probably the best shooting range out of any game. When I get off the game I can’t wait to log back in. Everyday I find more and more things I didn’t know previously about Hunt, the (TIPS) Apertures, the search menu with traits, prestige, throwing lanterns at horses, choke bombs on poison, pinging distance with scopes and spy glass. It’s ridiculous. It’s funny because I actually thought to myself; wow I wish I could ping the distance, tried it with scope and was wowed. The different pacts comparability’s with other traits, listening for map boss with dark vision. It’s insane. The only downside I can think of is that I’m red/green colorblind and their are zero options for this. My teammates will ping a location for a character/hunter and I see nothing. I heard they used to have shades but it made for exploits. Wish they just had a slight differential for the different colorblind types, especially mine which starts with a D lol. I’ve noticed in some games that I rubberband seldomly, compounds can raise frame rates. But it tends to do this and then doesn’t for the rest of my night. Like I said, seldomly. I give this game a 10.5 out of 10. It’s thought of things I couldn’t have. I would have a slight issue with fire damage, although realistically this is how it should be and it makes for disposing on other hunters easier especially while playing solo. I’ve jumped and almost knocked my table over more times than I can count. First game where I need to strictly play through sounds. It makes it the most immersive gameplay I’ve ever had. Feels like your there. The game can be punishing but it was designed this way. It has a big learning curve but they isolate this with a pretty decent MMR system. The animations, the reality of this game. It’s French kiss. I have almost completely stopped playing my other games. I wouldn’t be against them releasing a midievil title like this. Sword and shield vs demons and other crusaders. I would never put it down. Slightly smaller maps mixed with bows, shields for defense. But mainly upclose combat. Maybe buff health 1.5 times to make it more engaging. Smoke bombs to disperse for quick escapes. Fire bombs right before drinking a salve skin antidote or pouring something over the head of the Crusader. Just pitching ideas here. Maybe mix in a little magic. A temporary defensive bubble that is temporary for escapes or to give enough time to reach for a 2h sword or splash some salve skin on. To see these animations unfold like the bullet loading and spear throwing. Wow sure would be awesome, huh? Anyway this is an older title and it keeps breaking boundaries and keeps its player base and still expands. Game is brilliant. Not my pitched idea, well sure mine is too. lol but Hunt Showdown:1896. Absolute stunning and heart stopping immersive game. I want to see someone play with a heart monitor and stream this. Anyway 10.5/10. Only thing that I ask is that they get some sort of better anti-cheat. I myself, haven’t encountered this or even know if I have. But this would be the downfall of this game. One love.
A technical spectacle with a superb setting, Hunt: Showdown 1896 is the perfect version of a game that already had great success. Tension-filled matches deliver a fascinating experience for players interested in Crytek's unique universe.
I love the idea of Hunt: Showdown 1896, but in practise it's mostly abandoned by people either sprinting all the time or camping all the time. It's hard to "get good" in this game because, one; it doesn't tell you how to, so you have to watch youtube videos and read reddit threads to figure things as basic as what UI elements mean in the menus, and two; because everyone else is already good and you die before you can get anything done or learn anything. I've made some progress, but doing so was a frustrating and gruelling experience that wasn't entirely down to my own incompetence. If you're a glutton for punishment this could be the extraction shooter for you, but it's hard to recommend to anyone that isn't already embedded in it.
Want to hunt? Want to hunt in 1895? Want to track and hunt demons/monsters? Want to hunt the bounty? Or you just want the biggest human thrill of them all? Hunt the Hunters. This is the best multiplayer experience I've had since Left 4 Dead 2. This easily makes in my top 10 games. I love German Crytek, I build a PC for Crysis 1, another for Crysis 2 and upgraded it then for Crysis3. Then I stopped playing PC for awhile. I knew this game from the early acces but I was hesitant back then, thinking that early acces was a new thing for cheap, unfinished games I decided not to play. Then time went on and I thought that not enough people would still be playing multiplayer for the game to be worth it or that the skill entry level would be too agressive with experienced player everywhere. Not at all. This is the most thrilling, mature, tactical fps I have ever seen and with a 1896 horror setting on top of it. Crytek are genious.
Every game got my heart pounding like everything is about to fall in an instant. Every single one of them. The realism is astonishing. These maps are the best looking maps ever. EVER. You blow up Ubisoft, Fromsoft or C.O.D. for sure. They are incredible. So much that I long for a solo/pve campaign story in them. I will say no more. There is no way any other company right now could deliver the TENSION that this game does. PS: One point lost for mouse cursor bug recurring, add maps, bring back earlier maps into the roaster. More boss and dangerous one, the ones here after 2 or 3 encounter get easy to cheese. And finally change the health/stamina bar thing, I like how it works but it kinda looks like cardboard from a boardgame lying infront of you. More variety, more dangerous and modernize.
Easily one of the best extraction games out there, exiting, slow and methodical gunplay boosted with the most impressively sound tech makes it one of the most unique and rewarding experiences to enjoy alone or with friends. See you in colorado Hunter.
Adiós.
