A disappointing twin-stick shooter, a waste of the Halo brand and an embarrassing installment into the Xbox One launch window line-up. [Issue#108, p.74]
As long as your expectations are tempered, Halo: Spartan Assault is a serviceable game. It works as a top-down shooter, but you'll miss the enemy intelligence of the older games.
Even though Halo: Spartan Assault has a lot of charm and is somewhat fun to play, it is somewhat broken by greedy microtransactions.

It just doesn’t scream next-gen to me, despite being a really fun arcade shooter. Still, I did have a lot of fun with it, and I’d at least suggest checking out the demo if you’re interested.

Great little game at 3$. cant go wrong. Playing it solo and coop on xsx. Not every game need to be about graphics?

A decent twin-stick shooter that uses the touchstones of Halo combat effectively, but lacks the longevity or depth to warrant the price tag - and especially the microtransactions.

A bad port for a game that simply didn't work on home consoles. Still waiting for a real Halo.

There’s a decent game beneath some unfortunate flaws and irritating business practice, and I would genuinely like to see Vanguard have another crack at a top-down Halo without such questionable deterrents.

On the surface, Halo: Spartan Assault is a solid twin-stick shooter, much better suited to consoles than mobiles and PC. Ultimately, however, it feels like a mobile game, containing breezy missions that aren't much to look at and provide little in the way of a challenge. Oh, and it costs twice the price to access.

Well, this was originally a mobile phone game, so we cannot ask for more. It is fun, and the micro transactions is not needed to beat the game

All the same, this game has one special achievement. This is by far the worst twin-stick shooter I've ever played. The developers have done a good job of giving a similar experience to players, in particular fans of the Halo franchise. There are three key points that greatly spoil the impression of the game. The first is the inability to play local co-op, only multiplayer. Secondly, it is a donation system for buying weapons. And thirdly - the company is very weak, the levels are short and uninteresting. Conclusion - This game is a failed spin-off, for me. I don’t know who came up with the idea to make a sequel after that, but it remained in oblivion on mobile platforms, where such rubbish is the place. Glory to Ukraine!

A decent game considering it is a port of what originally launched as a cell phone game. As a free game I can't complain but can say that this game isn't worth paying more than a dollar or two for. Feels like a retro arcade 'Gaultlet' style game but with Halo graphics slapped on it. The fact that nothing new was really added in the port, other than a few levels or co-op online play, is very disappointing. It really does show that this game was not designed for these next gen consoles, but again, being that it was a free game for a time then it is worth playing a few levels.
