Gungrave definitely looks cool. It's also a textbook case for why great graphics don't do you much good if the underlying game is shallow.
91
Has an elegant anime look that makes it a must-play East-meets-Western. [11 Oct 2002, p.86]
70
Manages to bring a highly developed artistic sense to the table.
7
It’s highly linear and repetitive. The style is amazing and the vibes are immaculate, but the combat leaves a lot to be desired. P.S. I am not a fan of the rocket wielding bad guys

Technically impressive thanks to its cel-shading style and excellent cinematics, which make it very visually striking even 24 years after its release. It’s a shame about its short length and repetitive combat, because it had the potential to be much better. My score: ***
7
A short but sweet expertience, although i wish the game was a bit longer. The gameplay is simple, but i think it just complements the feeling of stylish coolness the game presents with its anime art style and graphics that makes it quite unique. Everything else such as level design, enemies or bosses is just fine, and there isn't much to say about(i think).

For what the game is, a stylish, in-your-face, shoot everything in sight, moving or not, killfest, the game's excellent. [Import]

Gungrave does everything it sets out to do, and while it may not be the longest or most complicated game, it’s nonstop action, unique art style, intriguing cutscenes, fun bosses, and replayability make it a game you’ll keep coming back to and a must-have for ps2 owners.

Incrível como um jogo tão simples e antigo seja tão divertido e fiel ao anime.
O jogo deve ter pouco mais de 1 hora de duração, mas a qualidade e fator replay fazem dele um dos meus títulos preferidos de PS2.

Any game that kicks off each stage with the phrase “Kick Their Ass!” can’t be all bad, and Gungrave is far from a dog.
69
Basically a vanity game made by Anime fans for Anime fans which sticks to its guns to create a shallow shoot-’em-up with an inspired styling.
60
No game in recent memory serves as a better example of style over substance.

The game can be completed in less than two hours, cut scenes included. Yes, there's much beauty in a simple control scheme, but not when it reaches the point of redundancy.
33
A great animated cartoon cleverly disguised as a rather lame Playstation 2 game. Great presentation is wasted on forgettable gameplay.

Short, straightforward and simple. Like many games of the early 2000s, Gungrave epitomized the arcadeyness that still persisted early in the sixth console generation. From end level scoring & bosses to linear level design and combat that was simple & fun but made an effort to not overstay it's welcome with a runtime spanning 2-3 hours. Twenty years later Gungrave still holds up visually thanks to it's cel shaded art design and still remains a game that's easy to pick up and play. It's a much overlooked game of it's generation but deserves to hailed up next to similar games of it's era, such as Devil May Cry, Shinobi & Viewtiful Joe. Also... you're doing **** disservice if you haven't watched the anime. It's not a necessary component to enjoying the games; it's just really good.

Has a couple of glaring issues like horrific draw distance, short length (it took me about 2 hours to beat with multiple game overs), the story feeling like an abridged version of something much bigger, and level 6 being very bad, but you know what? It looks gorgeous and its pretty damn fun, and thats really all I was hoping to get out of it when I started it. I wouldn't suggest you go out and spend 60$ on it or something, but its a nice game to emulate if you just want something to blow through in an afternoon.

gungrave a truly unique and entertaining PS2 game which is better if you have watch the **** I had not watch the anime, I would not have enjoyed this match the problem is that all the context and story is in the anime and there's barely anything inthe PS2 **** what is there is serviceable at least and the gameplay and graphics holds up surprising wall. hat to do some button remapping because I wanted to shoot on the R2 trigger and it worked and I enjoyed it way more and it's not that difficult to where you are losing a teeth. So that's always the best.
