EA Sports UFC 5 is the best MMA game yet. Its next-gen presentation and refreshed mechanics are a dramatic improvement over previous games in the series, allowing for a more seamless and exciting recreation of the sport. The new damage system makes adjusting your strategy mid-fight more involved with plenty of risk-versus-reward decisions, making both offline and online modes all the more enjoyable and replayable. Career Mode has been fine tuned with welcome lifestyle improvements and a deeper story with Coach Davis. UFC 4 may have been the best MMA game mostly due to lack of competition, but UFC 5 stands a class above it, earning that title on its own merits as both an amazing sports simulation game and fighting game alike.
UFC 5 is a decisive leap forward compared to the past as well as a game that takes the discipline it tries to simulate into very high regard. The approach is profound and requires both commitment and concentration even in the least simulative mode. On the other hand, it can be very rewarding once you have mastered the mechanics. The transition to Frostbyte was positive not so much in the graphic leap, which was still evident, but in the animations and the links that connect them.
What a piece of **** dog ****. couldn't change the **** " easy buttons " after turning it on , you can't turn itTF off, what a piece of **** dog **** topofthat **** my **** head or even **** dodge. What a piece of **** dog ****. Makes sense why the **** gameis free for ps **** DOG ****.
Generally speaking, UFC 5 shows various improvements both in terms of graphics and gameplay. Technically speaking the game is excellent, with an incredible level of attention to detail that makes the title truly pleasant to look at. The blood, the sweat, the blow effects and the animations are truly impactful. The gameplay is smooth and the combat system quite solid, albeit with its difficulties. We also appreciated the tons of contents, the new online career and the more classic one, which, however, is a bit monotonous in the long run. In short, a title that is very funny to play, very impressive graphically and very complex in the combat system.
UFC 5 is a very good fighting game with a lot of depth to it, and will provide plenty of entertainment for UFC fans. The career mode feels quite basic though and a bit more depth to it would have been welcome. There are also bugs that need addressing and the flailing of limbs when fighters get tangled makes things look a bit comical. Still, this is worth stepping into the Octagon.
Fans of MMA who've been eagerly awaiting the return of the series will likely find EA Sports UFC 5 to be hours of great entertainment. For those looking to dive into the game, it's certainly worth waiting for a price drop. However, unlike titles like EA Sports FC or even F1, the reality is that you may have a limited number of friends to play with, and the online mode might present some challenges.
EA Sports UFC 5 is the only game in town when it comes to the MMA genre, so it can be tough for fans of the series to ignore it, especially for those who are into the online ranked mode. But stagnation can be the death of a franchise. The overhauled graphics and new cut system are enough of an upgrade to satisfy some fans, but if you’re someone who enjoys the single-player modes, you’ll have pretty much the same experience by playing UFC 4 or even UFC 3 instead.
It's better than UFC 4 and headed in the right direction. No more arcade stuff, go full simulation. New features are a good start, need to replace everything from the previous games like the caf system. Hopefully comes soon.Overall the most fun I've had with any UFC game. Needs good roster but they add them for free for like 2 years straight so not worried. Love the legends this year, way better. Need better alternate version of roster fighters.
It isn't a fantastic game, but it isn't as bad as the fans make it seem. First off, the career mode of the game is very lackluster. Boring, one-dimensional characters, awful character models, and a character creator almost as dull as the cutscenes. It's still nice to fight your favorite UFC fighters, but isn't fun after the second playthrough. Grappling makes the career mode a complete joke and, although an improvement from the previous games, is incredibly boring. Secondly, the janky animations and bugs that occur when the character models collide take away from your immersion in the game. At times, the camera will pan into a wall or rotate way too often. The motion blur in the game is cranked to 11, and combined with the excessive camera rotation, can be nauseating. Of course, there are positives. Stand-up and boxing/kick-boxing feels very nice most of the time. Combat and delivering some damage to your opponent is very satisfying, especially when you get a combination rolling. UFC 5's main selling point was its graphics and reworked controls/cut system. Sure, the game underdelivered on graphics/character models, and feels more like a UFC 4.5, but isn't that awful. I would recommend buying this game only when it's at a 40% or more sale.
Good-
Solid presentation that captures the atmosphere of UFC. Fighters look good with decent animations and details. Career Mode is made even better with quality of life improvements. Combat is mostly on point with improved submissions and balanced AI. Authentic Damage adds more strategy to fights, and doctor stoppages enhance the realism. Bad-
No full introductions by Bruce Buffer. Some hits don't feel like they should register, and there's a distinct lack of snappiness. Career Mode can get monotonous with its lack of additional activities. Ground and pound is pretty dismal. Doctor stoppages can get excessive. Not much of a jump forward from EA Sports UFC 4. Thoughts-
Overall, I didn’t mind EA Sports UFC 5. It’s essentially an improved version of the fourth game with some intriguing new systems and mechanics, even if some (like doctor stoppage) could be better. The visuals are good, even if the presentation lacks in some key areas, and the gameplay feels fun, especially if you can get into the new submissions system. However, it just doesn’t feel like enough, especially three years after the last game, especially in Career Mode, character customization and so on. It’s not an awful game, but with how much has changed with the UFC over the years, EA Sports seems like it’s hesitating to take the next big step.
I like the game and all and have accrued over 5 days of play time, but this has to be the worst iteration of UFC by EA to date. Often times you’re unable to block or unable to throw what you want. This game is overwhelmingly bad and just a rebrand of ufc with worse mechanics.
