A visual treat; even more so than its immensely popular "Geometry Wars." The tweaked classic tracks may not be for everyone, but at least they tie into the gameplay, making Boom Boom Rocket a very unique offering in the ever-surprising lineup of Xbox Live Arcade games.

Ultimately Boom Boom Rocket achieves what it set out to do without any noticeably downsides – except, of course, that what it sets out to do is barely different from what has been done many times before; instead of a gimmicky peripheral, it entertains with mesmerising imagery.

Ok, the idea behind ''Boom Boom Rocket'' it's mmm... interesting?... maybe, and I know that the game isn't perfect, but it's really addictive. The gameplay is really simple, and maybe it's the big problem of the game, it's so simple that after a while becomes repetitive, has some level of increasing difficulty, but it's not enough. The music and the rest of the effects are so cool, and the graphics, couldn't be the best, but are great. And other good point is the control answer, it's good. Simple and addictive, the best words to describe ''Boom Boom Rocket''.

It’s a rhythm game, similar to Space Channel 5. It’s okay, it’s not terrible, but the levels get repetitive, and the music gets annoying after a while.

You'll certainly enjoy it, but unlike a gobstopper, it's not going to last you forever. [Issue#20, p.116]

At around $10 real dollars (800 Microsoft Points), Boom Boom Rocket does offer a somewhat satisfying pick-up-and-play experience that some folks will be happy to have on hand, and that can be quite theraputic. But many others will get all the enjoyment they need out of BBR by simply downloading the free demo.

The simplistic nature of Boom Boom Rocket makes it easy to pick up and enjoy in brief chunks, but it's also roughly like playing "Dance Dance Revolution" with the controller instead of a dance mat, which, unsurprisingly, isn't too much fun.

GameDaily
A barebones rhythm game that focuses more on visuals than it does on outstanding music, which should always come first in this genre. Downloadable content in the future will help, but unless it offers better music or a significantly different game mode, only the diehard rhythm gamers will care.

Boom Boom Rocket is marking time rather than feeling the rhythm, and that’s not enough to set Live Arcade’s skies alight. [June 2007, p.88]

Choice of songs? Terrible. Gameplay? Non-existent. Difficulty? varies too much. The only reason I can't give it a 0 is because I have a sweet spot for games where you constantly press buttons. One thing's for sure- you won't be idle watching the screen in this. It's so simple- you just press the buttons when they come up and you have to time it right. 4 buttons, one simple goal- but one hard as hell challenge on higher speeds. Obviously you would be a bafoon to pay for this, but it might be worth a try if you have an XBLA Compilation Disc.
