Whilst Nexus is most certainly an Armored Core game, and very good with it, a lot has changed on how the game fundamentally plays. Is it the best in the series? Well, it comes stunningly close. [JPN Import]

The addition of first-person-shooter-style controls is what takes Nexus to the next step. The series instantly goes from being niche to nice, now that turning your Core is simpler for the uninitiated. [Nov 2004, p.112]

Simply absolute cinema. Armored Core: Nexus delivers one of the most traumatic and rewarding endings of the PS2 era. The game finally introduced true dual analog control to the franchise, eliminating the headache of moving the camera with the L and R buttons. The third generation could easily have ended here. The Arena mode overhaul is excellent, although it's a huge flaw that progressing in it can unintentionally cancel campaign missions. Disc 2, on the other hand, is an impeccable tribute for those who have followed the series since the PS1. I have a few reservations, but they exist: the English voice acting is absurdly amateurish, and the new firing system makes your weapon stop firing on its own if you hesitate. Furthermore, the attempt to rebalance the parts destroyed classic builds, transforming the use of Over Boost (OB) into something that demands ruthless strategic management. However, if you overlook these problems, the game is a masterpiece.

One of the finest mecha games ever made...The constant micro-management of you AC's mutually opposed abilities coupled with an increased efficiency at neutralising enemies is a cerebral, immersive and vibrantly unique gaming experience, which lifts the game above its past incarnations. [June 2004, p.116]

I still find the control too slow and awkward, and this once again hampers my enjoyment of the game somewhat. [Oct 2004, p.75]

The baffling story and incredible difficulty are likely to repel all but the most ardent and devoted players. [Sept 2004, p.110]

Competent but uninspired, Armored Core Nexus continues to cater to a dedicated following of PS2 owners that milk its customization features for all they’re worth.

It has more of the same clunky controls and general lack of fun for which the series is known. [Oct 2004, p.92]

Обожаю все части этой серии. Они хоть и однообразные, но очень сильно затягивают геймплеем, механикой и постройкой мехов.

Armored Core Nexus is unfairly criticized by the same things some critics praised Dark Souls for (a game that is also from the same developer). Steep learning curve and difficult battles are nothing compared to the feeling of satisfaction of building and mastering your own mech.
