Abzu is quite simply a breath-taking piece of interactive art, that feels vivid and more alive than you’d imagine a video game was capable of being.
A wonderful trip beneath the waves, abounding in small surprises and impressing with the sheer density of life in certain scenes. Whether you’re riding a manta ray or zipping along a speedy current like a highway, it makes the natural world fun while adding its own intriguing mysteries to uncover.
Abzû is one of the best games of 2016 with a cryptic yet very good story, alongside with beautiful visuals that go way beyond the aquatic screensaver. Unless you're a hardcore action fan, you have to try it.

Journey underwater. That's pretty much it. But I do appreciate the art and music.

If you aren't entranced by mechanically shallow games like Journey, don't bother. But if you find exploration titles even marginally interesting, Abzu is an absolute must-play – it's the most majestic one yet.

A beautiful, emotional journey through some of the best looking environments on the PlayStation 4, Abzû was well worth the wait.

The gorgeous sea world in Abzû is very beautiful and relaxing, but can also be exciting. It will only take you two hours to swim your way through the story and there is not much freedom, but it is an amazing experience to remember.

ABZÛ is a very original game on the PlayStation 4 and if you played Journey before, you may see a few similarities but at the end of the day, this is game should be played on its own merits and on that level it succeeds.

Abzu is a relaxing dive, balancing the lack of gameplay diversity with its beautiful design.

I did enjoy being in the water, but I can't help but feel the beautiful visuals and music were jamming pictures of places and emotions in my face instead of earnestly telling a compelling story. There's an unshakeable air of falsity about Abzû. As a treat to the senses, however, it's hard to beat.

This undersea tour is quite short. I got through it in about two hours or so and was surprised by the brevity, but it’s probably better that way. No matter how beautiful it is to swim with whales or to descend into an undersea crevasse, there is precious little to do in Abzu, and it’s never particularly touching or thought-provoking. If it told a better tale or if there were more to it than swimming and occasionally pushing a button, it might have been a knockout. As it stands, the appeal of looking at pretty fish wears off in a hurry, and there’s not much else to recommend it.

Abzu might not be the first of this genre, but it might be the best. These games have always succeeded first and foremost because of their atmosphere, and the watery ruins filled with intriguing aquatic life of Abzu's oceans succeed maybe even better than Journey's sandy and snowy peaks. Abzu's bursting and triumphant orchestral score clears out in quiet, somber moments to let the visuals do the talking, as the quiet sound design serenades the player. Every track from this game is beautiful, and every moment looks like a brilliant impressionist painting. The simple swimming mechanics are soothing and enjoyable, not wasting any time distracting from the presentation. These short and perfectly paced aesthetic-focused games are becoming more and more common, but few of them manage to be great. Abzu is not only great, it is endlessly enjoyable - the videogame equivalent to comfort food. An easy to play game that offers a lot of simple and profound pleasures. A work of art.

I just don't understand why there has so much people praising this game. Imagine a game that's all about graphics and fish. Do you did that? So you must have imagined Abzu. The only thing you do in that games is swim. There is no combat system and the story is subliminal. The problem with the story is that you don't want to understand what is happening, because of how shallow the experience is. It's nothing like Hollow Knight, a game that has so much interesting moments, and because of that, it develops in you the desire to understand that universe. In Abzu there is no memorable moment that gives you a desire to understand what is happening. I don't recommend anyone to play this game, unless you got it for free.

SummaryABZÛ is an grand descent into the depths of the sea, where players explore ocean environments with fluid swimming controls. The experience draws inspiration from the deep innate narrative that we carry within our subconscious: the story of ABZÛ is a universal myth that resonates across cultures. The name references a concept from the old... Read More
