After four seasons and a universe of ideas, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is still doing what it does best. It’s constantly shifting the goal posts and surprising its audience with delightful twists and turns, never taking its fanbase for granted or getting too caught up in what’s already worked.

Sara gets the team back together and they all hatch a plan to steal back the Waverider, so this all feels more like preparation for the new status quo rather than a rushed half-step into what will assuredly be a slew of misadventures across time. Legends has always reveled in its potential, and it’s getting much better at realizing its strengths on what must be a micro-managed budget at this point.

Game of Thrones continues to be as gripping and relevant within its own context as ever, and in terms of a single episode that has to set up an entire season of unfamiliar territory for all fans, “Dragonstone” doesn’t disappoint.

At the very least, Friends from College manages to have its fair share of funny moments, especially when getting into a consistent flow of levity. It’s just a shame that these scenes often sidestep into intentionally cringe-inducing drama that needs a better evaluation of the stakes.

As always, the sestras themselves bail the show out by taking our minds off of these head-scratching narrative decisions and focusing instead on their well-being, almost as fiercely as they look out for each other.

Once the show discovers what it really has in its holster (a biting rivalry between Chuck and Nicole Richie’s Portia, for example), it finds its comedic stride with some truly inspired writing. Sadly, though, it never quite rises up to the levels of original insanity it learned from its predecessors or manages to surpasses them.

It’s no Spartacus, of course, but American Gods manages to pull off a unique combination of ideas and stylistic action that will make a believer out of almost anyone.

While Guerrilla has all the great writing and production design of a wonderful drama, it also suffers from some blatantly absurd creative choices that manage to undermine much of the show’s clout, otherwise.

It’s not a program that can be easily enjoyed through casual viewing and appreciation for the genre, but rather, it begs itself to be taken seriously, much in the same way its own book sparked stressful conversations through its tale of a family dynasty in the making. For that reason, The Son might not be for everyone.

Despite going by a well-intentioned recipe, Imaginary Mary fails to stick any sort of landing on what it wants to say about its lead, except that she is being manipulated by a demon yeti with a personality as inconsistent as the show’s script. The entire cast--and the animators--deserve better.
