Space Pirates and Zombies8

What contributes to the score here is the price. The game itself is good, although it can get repetitive. When playing through I tend to do it over an extended period of time, so I don't get bored. But for the cheap price that it costs, it is more than worth it. The actual game-play is simple, and working out how to customize your ships to get the most out of them in a certain situation makes it enjoyable. You can get put into a position where the game is a challenge. And when you've beaten it, step it up a difficulty level and try again. It will be far harder, and renew the enjoyment. One of the few criticisms I have of it is the ship choice. Once you've found a good ship, you're unlikely to replace it with another of the same class. This means that of the ships you collect, you won't use many. Overall though, a good game, worth the small cost and if you're a fan of space games, enjoyable. A hail-back to a slightly older era of games, and who doesn't love a classic?

Star Ruler8

I don't like giving very high scores for a game, but Star Ruler came close. Being an avid Space Strategy gamer, I was surprised when I came across Star Ruler. I was getting fed up of playing games where you simply march down a pre-set research path to build bigger, pre-set ships where the AI either get ahead of you causing a desperate struggle while you find a way to overcome their bigger ships, or you get ahead of the AI and cruise to victory. Interesting for a while, but quickly gets boring. Star Ruler is different. Research is done in areas instead of specific technologies, so you can completely ignore some area's of technology if you like. Should you not like having heavy ships, don't bother with researching armour, and don't put any on. Which leads us to the second great feature of this title; you completely customize your ships. You choose which components go on, how big they are relative to the ship, and the overall size of the ship. This freedom means that strategy can become crucial to the game, as well as a refreshing new stance on the genre. The main criticism of the game is the AI. When playing the AI there is a simple way to win; mass colonization. As soon as you have controlled the majority of the systems, you will win easily. The AI will then make demands of you that you can completely ignore and just obliterate them. The other big issue is the economy. By the time you've realized you're going to run out of resources, stopping the rot is very, very difficult. The number of systems you will occupy makes it hard to make minor strategic decisions and by far the easiest way is to just leave it to governors. But the overall strategic decisions, and fleet deployment is still well worth playing. I would recommend this game to anybody looking for a space strategy game that is different, and once you've gotten over the learning curve you have a great game.

FIFA 146

I'm not going to say that FIFA 14 is a 'must play' game, because it simply isn't. But then when you look at FIFA games, you are essentially looking at an upgrade from the previous years title. And in this respect, FIFA 14 delivers. The game-play is good, flowing and marginally more realistic than previous years. However, as with all FIFA titles, when compared to last years, not massively. There is still a cadre of people playing FIFA 13 online, so if that is what you are interested in, I wouldn't recommend the outlay for slightly better graphics and updated teams. FIFA 14 is a substantial improvement on FIFA 12, but FIFA 13 is a good point between the two if you already own a copy of 13. Yet I still find something different about FIFA 14; something that makes me glad I bought it. When going up against the AI I find that they adjust themselves to the game. Playing multiple games against the same team but with my team different caused different styles. Teams play more like they are famous for; Barcelona dominate possession, Manchester City go for attacking while being vulnerable at the back, Chelsea remain hard to break down. This is good. Overall, is FIFA 14 worth it if you have FIFA 13? Probably not. Is it a good game? Definitely. If you didn't get FIFA 13? I would definitely say worth it.
