A Clockwork Orange8
Jul 17, 2016
Pretty dated by this time as far as storytelling, acting and pace, but many questions and lack of answers in this film are brought to light. They are still relevant. Love the use of slang words not in society at that time and the over the top sexual references. After the film, if you cannot ID the purpose of the film which has been beaten over your head for over 2 hours, watch it again.

The Nice Guys6
Jul 9, 2016
This movie based in the 70's is saved by the fact it is in the 70's. The story, although twisted, is not very unique and I'd say would be boring if this film weren't based in the 70's. So much great music during this time you'd think the soundtrack would put some spice into this stew. But no. The humor is deadpan as Crowe plays the serious type and Gosling plays the idiot turned star detective. Together awkward but watchable.

A River Runs Through It6
Jun 29, 2016
The film is long, almost as long as it took to read the book itself. Unnecessarily long and without proper emphasis on parts that radically change the characters themselves. The story has many intricacies in this matter but seemed to be almost totally ignored. None the less, if you can't bring yourself to read the book (which itself takes disciple as it its not full of excitement) watching this film once may suffice.

Everybody Wants Some!!6
Jun 28, 2016
I can't believe how much this movie looks likes and almost sounds like Dazed and Confused (CLASSIC). From camera angles to characters, to plot even to relying on music to paint the picture's ambiance. Watching this, i was not amused or pleased about these similarities-and I grew up in the 80's! Further, after Hot Tub Time Machine and other more recent movies have "re-acquiesced" to the 80's theme, it made this less interesting.

We're the Millers4
May 30, 2016
This, is not funny-even if you're high. This, is not amusing. . This, is not worth the 120 minutes. This, even with Aniston, is not good. This, is sparse comedy at best. This, is not original.

Hail, Caesar!5
May 29, 2016
I spent time watching this movie and if I were to explain what it was, I couldn't. not because it is so good or so "deep" but because i don't know what to call it. If the Coen bros didn't write this and if Clooney wasn't in it, I don't know how it gets made. Its original. but not captivating (kept waiting for something to turn the movie into this) not interesting (kinda a plot ****.

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising3

Dumb. Dumb, dumb dumb. I mean, this already was a movie, when they did the original. Just girls. The same jokes, the same cliches. I can't even make it through this dumb movie.

Race7
May 23, 2016
This is a good introduction to the life and times and struggle of Jesse Owens. Although the movie seemed to play very slow, there seemed to be two movies here-struggle to the Olympics and the struggle at the Olympics. I can't say much for the acting as it wasn't Oscar material, I was impressed with Sudekis. Mostly I was disappointed with the almost complete disregard for the inner conflicts Owens must have had to endure-inner and outwardly.

Concussion6
Jan 27, 2016
OK, this was turned into a movie from real events. Which is not rare. But real events based from the scientific community/background. Of course there isn't going to be gun fire and car chases and if you go into this movie understanding that, you begin to understand the HUGE discovery which is wrapped in this movie. The very backbone of americana's joy-sort of speak. But to digress, the information and events are interesting as a story. But the acting is horrid. How much money did they pay Smith to look concerned/convicted with furrowed eyebrows? All in all, worth a watch to put some faces to the information.

The Hateful Eight8
Jan 26, 2016
Maybe I'm just a Tarentino fan but this too was a good flick of his. Very dialog heavy and sloooooooow moving. This story could have been been told in 30 minutes, but Tarentino's strength (character development) keep the viewer in wonder. Simple scenery and colors gives full attention to those on the screen. As usual, Tarentino casts about the same cast he always casts, I loved the addition of Goggins to the mix. He stole many scenes in my opinion. But two takeaways I didn't really care for: 1. Rememberances of Resavoir Dogs 2. This won't stay in my film collection as I now know the outcome.

Daddy's Home5
Jan 24, 2016
Mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, its a bunch of re-done cliches. Cool guy v. nerdy, family guy. I can do vs. you can't. The only difference is the circumstances these roles fit into. And, obviously makes/breaks the movie. Neither Ferrell or Wahlberg can really act- so in that regard its too over the top sarcastic. Maybe as a parent I could "get" this more, but I'm **** I don't

Chi-Raq7
Jan 22, 2016
Very timely and a very modern take on the ancient greek tale. For this aspect, I give Lee his due. Power of thought provocation in a way that is very outside of what is happening in theaters these days. This aside, the movie played like a made for TV movie. Simple dialog, bright colors and wrapped in exagerated stereotypes. Sad that Lee, despite the important message and great concept has to do the dumb **** to get people to watch

Knight and Day6
Jan 16, 2016
I didn't think this was Cruise's worst film, nor his best. I am not a Cruise fan in anyway, but I caught this recently and I found myself mostly engaged from beginning to end. The action was pretty good and the sarcasm/comedy flairs in the movie were well timed as well. Now neither Diaz or Cruise have much of a knack for comedy in my opinion anyway but they worked well together here. A movie to keep in your collection; probably not.

Guidance7
Dec 18, 2015
Watching the trailer I thought this would be sort of a "thoughtless, laugh at all the stupid, far fetched antics" type of movie. And in some respects it was. But, it became more than I expected, looming away from a comedy movie into an introspective, self-affirming monologue **** trying to find himself amid alcoholism, confused sexuality, family crisis, kid **** and "now what comes next. in life." But don't get me wrong there is more blank spots and disconjointedness than could have been if allowed proper writing. As it is, its an interesting watch with a few chuckles.

SPECTRE4
Nov 30, 2015
Clocking in at nearly, 3 hours, this movie couldn't hold my attention. Which is a shame since the Bond series used to be very engaging-special effects, hotties, etc. Craig "called this one in" with his acting, while the story itself (although LONG) was not very intertwined or fresh ("james, they're gonna kick you ****'re suspended, etc). I'm glad I didn't spend two cents on this.Further, I hope the talk of a new James Bond is true, cause I can't watch more of Craig,

Black Mass7
Nov 10, 2015
Although Depp is the main character in this story (based on true events), I think it was his co -stars that make this movie go as well as it did. Running over two hours, Depp's character continues to evolve but little can be noticed in the way he acts. Further, given the time frame of the movie, I think a greater sound track could have carried emotions further for the viewer. All in all, this is worth a watch, but not to keep in your movie collection.

Extraordinary Tales7
Oct 26, 2015
I can welcome almost any kind of introduction of classic writers to the short attention spanned people of today. Now, this only has 5 or so tales, and somewhat abbreviated at that. But the simple animation, along with good narration, bring the theme (if not the tone) of Poe's works to light (read: dark). Those who don't know Poe this serves as a simple, cliff note version.

Dope7
Oct 8, 2015
Can't say the acting was very good, by anyone in this film. The best acting was the voice narration by Forrest Wittaker. But I did the the cliches that were broken and illustrated in this film. Simple story and simple events. Shades of Friday, Project X and Superbad all mixed together with a shade of black actors. The sound track was FAT and brought me back to my teen years-songs I loved sprinkled throughout the film. Worth a watch, but not worth keeping, or remembering much about.

EuroTrip6

How is this movie so well rated by users? Bad acting, cliche' story line, predictable plot and **** to mention the lack of originality. Sure the use nudity to try to divert your attention so you don't know the movie is so terrible, but even this does not work.

Entourage6
Aug 23, 2015
It was nice to see the gang back together. Used to luv the TV series until the last 2 or so seasons. ANd, well the movie picks up from there. Of course, there is the nudity, sex and oh-so-brief cameos on this movie (as expected). But the rushed, unfocused plot is trash. The story doesn't develop but rather told-which is not nessessary cuz' its pedictable Really not many laughs. I am sure, after this debacle, the gang won't be back together on the screen any time soon. Fans can re-watch the first few seasons and remember what was great about this show.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation7
Aug 6, 2015
Thought this film ran too long, almost 2 hours when the first half (within the plot) is not needed-a trick sort of speak. Some would call that a plot twist I guess. The action was good but certainly too much for a character to survive-but this is not a realistic film either-so shouldn't expect realism.. Further, the flick is not as good as some other MIP flicks. None the less, it was good for a watch, but won't be going into my collection.

Hot Tub Time Machine 23
May 13, 2015
Tough to say this but without straight man Cuzak from the first movie, this movie is off the railing pretty quick. Another demonstration that sequels rarely work. As with the previous, I did like the flashback/reminising of the past-including the music and dress. But after 45 minutes, it was enough.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels7
Apr 26, 2015
Rewatched this movie for the first time in years, and it hasn't stood the test of time. Very cliche'd for these times, but still gives a few laughs-which seem to be ad-libbed -a bit off script if you will. The polar opposites of these two is what makes the movie and two better actors to play these roles would be hard to find at the time of this movie.

Mortdecai5
Apr 20, 2015
Depp's character is a rehashed Pirates of the Carribean accent, with the flare of Mr Bean facial contortions. Rare moments, thru the intensely-heavy dialogue, there were moments to **** the surface, chasing a round the world for something sounds exciting, but in general the movie was not very interesting. There are times when quirky is funny and this movie was not.
Apr 15, 2015
The Wedding Ringer6
Apr 15, 2015
Good premise of a movie it seemed and fair story telling to keep the movie going-although running long. Hart made this movie funny, or this would have been TERRIBLE. Is he an actor, no. But neither is Gad. He reminds me of a less talented, pre-weightloss Jonah Hill and plays that playful, loser type character. Nonetheless it had a few good laughs, but I feel the promising premise wasn't full developed in regard of all the things that could spin out of control/fun factor stuff. Good for a watch, not to keep.

Little Miss Sunshine6
Mar 31, 2015
Used to like this movie a bunch. The quirky characters, the disfunctional family all united on a mission to get the youngest to a pageant in Cali. On the surface a very simple movie but developed very slowly. If you're impatient you can miss what is worth watching.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty6
Mar 31, 2015
Ben Stiller are not usually part of my viewing pleasure but this was one of his better flicks, A fairly simple concept of imagining your way out of everyday boredom. However, there was not enough of the imagining on a grand scale as most would-missing a big oppertunity. The story was slow to move and the movie itself was about 30 minutes too long. Worth a watch.

Champs8
Mar 22, 2015
The flick is a good look at legit, boxing champs of the world. Tyson's well known climb, but lesser known as well-Holyfield and Hopkins. Well balanced of the hard work, and the skills/attitude to become the champ, but the mixed culture of empowerment and false security. Good story telling and good footage, along with good interviews to give a look inside the world of these fighters. Some/most is what you know but interesting if you can enjoy the sport.

Top Five7
Feb 13, 2015
Can't say this was hallarious, but worth a few chuckles. Further, it was better than I thought it would be. There are ALOT of people making appearances in this flick, which add to the interest. The sound track was dope and I liked the flashbaacks which reminded me of some good times. . But I feel the movie played about 30 minutes too long. My top five: 1. Jay 2. M 3. Tribe Called Quest 4. Gang Starr 5. Talib Kweli DONE!

Jimi: All Is by My Side6
Jan 26, 2015
This is an interesting flick if you don't know about Jimi before he became famous. Before he was labeled a genius. His come up sort of speak. However, the movie moved slllllllllllooooooowly with seemingly alot of uncertainty of where the movie was to end. As if the movie started with a different ending that it's original ambition. Andre' (of Outkast fame) was perfect for the role in his appearance but not sure of his acting "chops." The movie is good for a watch, if you got the time-and the patience.
Jan 24, 2015
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)8
Jan 24, 2015
Keaton was very good in this flick and Norton was perfectly cast at his opposite. The story meanders a bit but the film does not seem to be too long with a message of self reaffirmation tied with self doubt/past success.
Jan 9, 2015
Inherent Vice7
Jan 9, 2015
This reminded me of Tarantino storytelling meets the Big Lebowski, crossed with Fearing and Loathing in Las Vegas, I watched it (all 2 1/2 hours of it) and I'm not sure what the h*ll I just saw. Pheonix was dynamic in his leading role and the constant appearance of other actors in minor roles, made for a reason to stay awake. If nothing else you can sit back and try to figure out how all of the things that happen somehow tie together. Or when the movie is over, you can wonder-"thats it?"

Exodus: Gods and Kings6
Jan 1, 2015
Certainly not biblical correct throughout, with some HEAVY individual "for entertainment's sake" takes, but fair overall. Though the actor playing King Ramseses was a good influence opposite Bale. The CGI effects to show the enormity within several scenes is very good. However, since the film goes away from the Biblical account, I thought the film ran long and missing the grueling Exodus through the desert where Moses' leadership is tested the most from the Hebrews! This movie certainly will not stay on my movie list.

Dumb and Dumber To5
Dec 22, 2014
Was this laugh out loud ****. Was it at least "chuckleable?" yes. Was it better than the first...resounding no. Hard to follow a near classic with another near classic....especially 20 years later. Many similarities of plot, scenes and even characters as in the first one. Movie moved at a good pace even had some good songs in the sound track. Good enough for one watch and forgetting about the outside world for the duration of this movie.

I Am Ali5
Dec 9, 2014
Perhaps it is the well documented life of Ali, that made this documentary ho-hum. Family members have spoke about him, writers have spoke, foes have **** know more than a bit about the icon of American Culture. And, not much added to that knowledge from this documentary. I did like the recordings he made with his children that were used, that really caputred his "outside the ring" nature. For a person who doe snot know much about this man, this movie would be a good start.

Boyhood9
Dec 2, 2014
I can't say more than the opther nearly 600 reviews have not said about this movie. I liked the premise of the movie, which I don't remember seeing/knowing about-same cast for multi years as they grow up in a movie. Also I liked Ethan's role in the movie as well as the mother's changes in the movie. What I didn't like, or expected more of (thus the 9 rating) was better acting. The main character/boy, along with others, couldn't seem to pull off any thing-like crying or anger. None the less I will keep this one in my movie collection.
Aug 27, 2014
Fading Gigolo6
Aug 27, 2014
Although not written nor directed by Woody Allen, it is esscentially a Woody Allen type film. Heavy on dialog, minimialistic scenes with a setting among jews and/or brooklyn. After seeing the trailer I liked the concept with the quick one liners throughout. the movie did have comic moments but essentially was something other than the trailer seemed to depict. Which was a pleasant surprise. However the film ran too long with comic moments too far and between. Romantism with Turturro is funny in itself but after only an hour seemed to far flung-even if Vergara appeared, the story became predictable and good for a one time watch.

Trailer Park Boys: The Movie2
Aug 21, 2014
This cast was marginally funny when it was on the small screen, just think of how marginally funny they will be on the big screen. Unfortunatly marginally does not describe this movie accuratly. Although the show was not very original past the first season, the movie is just as uninspired as the seasons following the first. In a word, bland. But its was nice to see the cast back playing the characters, but that was it.

Bad Words4
Jun 24, 2014
Was surprised this was Bateman's first film he has directed. None the less the story line is pretty uninspired and predictable. Old man vs 10 year old in spelling bees......they develop a feidnship of ****, what will happen. Was looking forward to over the top things by bateman's character but left disappointed. So whats the upside of this flick, the 10 year old. although he doesn't act much he adds an element worth seeing......once.

A Million Ways to Die in the West4
Jun 18, 2014
This is dumb. If you expecting fun, or even funny this is not the flick for you. I did find myself chuckling a few times at this or that, but between checking my watch and wondering "is this ever going to end?" For a comedy film, this is not a good trait. Seth is clearly made to be a writer not an actor. Although this was his movie he should have left himself out of it.

The Grand Budapest Hotel8
Jun 10, 2014
Average story but good storytelling with great pictures. I like the spattering of other major actors in the film. However it isn't the story nor these actors but rather Wes' vision for this film that brings it to like with great colors and some imagination. His first such success in some time I'd say. Although without supreme, laugh out loud moments, well worth the watch.

Nebraska8
May 6, 2014
The story is very simple but within the movie demonstrates the disconnection among families these days. The black and white movie really illustrates this, dismal kind of existence. While peering into these character's lives, we learn about them as they learn about themselves and each other. No special graphics or effects force the veiwer to ID with the characters.

Son of God8
Apr 20, 2014
In writing about this movie I'd like to stay away from the debate about the validity of God-as when you come to Jesus he will be ready for you. Regardless, I thought the movie was vary similar to the stripture, with some small liberties for movie making purposes (i.e. dumbing it down). However, it was interesting to see another's vision of the life of Jesus-clothes, casting of disciples, etc. Most importantly, I think everyone in the movie theater was touched by the film. Crying in most cases-especially if you are a Christian and understand the sacrifice made/written by God.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues4
Mar 19, 2014
The best part of this movie was the premise-going into a 24 hour news channel. The rest is re-hashed grade school comedy equal to fart and stink jokes. There are some funny one liners but quite a few less than the original. It was painful to watch this sequel cuz you can tell they are trying to "one up" the original and can't. most importently they didn't! Very disappointing.

All Is Lost8
Feb 26, 2014
This is a movie i didn't know about until I was on a flight and watched it. Slowly, almost like torture, the situation gets worse and worse for this aging sailor on his own sail boat. The film does not have any dialog and no other characters, which says alot in itself as the film is long but not boring. As an experienced sailor, the character is able ot survive but not without several missteps and know-how to save himself. The tension builds as the situation gets worse and there is no dialog- you can really become just as frustrated and full of tension as you begin to sink with the ship.

Captain Phillips8
Feb 26, 2014
This was good flick that i didn't expect to see (but came up during a flight). Hanks doesn't wow on the screen but a rather vanilla. As is the supporting cast. However, the story is what saves this film. As the film progresses you can begin to really feel the tension which is probably 100% less than what it was really like. You cetrainly find yourself rooting for Hank's character, and as this is based on a true story, makes for a cherry on top;.
Feb 26, 2014
The Monuments Men6
Feb 26, 2014
Unsure on why this film is rated so low. I mean, i only gave it a six, but could do 7 too. Quality actors in the flick and a good true story to follow and learn about. But quite a bit of dialog at times and the movie begins a bit slow, then a quick montage style to get the story going. There was some jovial moments as the movie is plotted in war, which leads to a bit of confusion-as in, what is the purpose?

About Time8
Feb 26, 2014
Saw this on a flight and I am glad I did as it was not a movie I heard of. The premise seems pretty cheesey. Even the first 30 minutes is pretty cheesey in nature as well-predictable and a story that has already been told. But the story turns to a more family oriented, family saving ordeal with feeling in that the viewer can identify with the predictament the family begins to face. If you begin to watch this, give the slow moving tale some time

Gravity9
Feb 26, 2014
This was alot better than I thought it was going to be. I mean, what could happen in space that would keep me interested. Well, despite that there was quite a bit of suspense and impossiblities was more than enough to keep me interested. And although i am not a Sandra Bullock fan, she was atleast believable in her role, while Clooney was not outside his "normal" typecast.

The Counselor5
Feb 11, 2014
This movie has a lot of clever lines, A LOT. That's mainly because the entire movie is practically all conversation-making the 2 hour film seem like 4 hours. It is suspenseful with many implications and assumptions to string the movie along. But it is not very thrilling. Note to the film maker: DIAZ SHOULD NOT HAVE THAT MANY CLOSE UPS! She is not sexy!
