This is a good short and cute game. The art style is fun and vibrant, the puzzles are simple but enjoyable to figure out, and while the controls are quite cumbersome at times, I understand that it is part of the design and it did not bother me too much. Overall, pretty solid game. (Also, I played this game on PS4, not switch, but because Metacritic is dumb, I can't change what console I give my score to, so it is stuck here.)

Viewfinder is a short but nearly perfectly executed puzzle game. The mechanics of taking and picking up pictures, and using them to create terrain is a lot of fun. Viewfinder gets very creative with the premise, having various ways of creating new pictures and destroying the terrain to complete puzzles. In addition to this, there is a great attention to detail in the world, and the environments help make you feel like you are a part of the world. The rewind feature also helps, since it give you motivation to experiment without any sort of penalties. The story is pretty basic, but the way it is shown to the player through audio tapes and sticky notes throughout the levels elevates it. I also enjoy Cait as a companion, although Jessie can be quite grating. I do have a slight problem with the controls, since for some reason you lose all control of your character when you jump, which can be slightly annoying at times. Nonetheless, this is an excellent experience which I would highly recommend to anyone interested in this kind of game.

It is fun for the first couple of hours. Messing around with the different units feels fun, and each one feels unique. But the campaign is lame and repetitive, with a lot of the challenges feeling tiresome. The physics engine is fun, but actually controlling your army is clunky and feels quite bad. I also had some issues with lag, even in the campaign modes. There is some charm to this game, and messing around with some friends is fun, but I don't see myself ever picking this game up again. From both a single player campaign perspective and from a fun party game perspective, it is a bit lacking, and there are far better games to pick from.

There isn't really a game here. It is just a walking simulator. It is essentially what people who don't play visual novels say visual novels are like. I also just didn't find the narrator to be particularly funny. It was just him getting constantly annoyed with you trying to actually play the game. The game just makes you feel stupid for even trying to engage with it. I can see why some people would enjoy it, mainly if you like that time of humour, and maybe it gets better as you go, since I only ended up playing two hours, but personally, I am not a fan.

While I don't dislike this game, it also is not mario party. I genuinely think this is the best collection of minigames in any mario party, but that doesn't matter when you don't get to play them while on the boards. I don't enjoy using the car. They are trying to completely change the way mario party is played, but it doesn't work well. Bosses is a good touch, but are not enough to save the game. Is it a bad game? No. Is it a bad mario party game? Yes, and for that, I have to rate it low. Just play the earlier games or the switch titles.

This game is a lot of fun if you have the four people you need (you can technically play some of the levels with less, but it isn't particularly fun). This game kills more friendships than any other game I can think of, but will leave whoever plays it laughing. Some of the levels can be a little bit obnoxious, but I would definitely say this is a good time.

I mean, it's fun for what it is. Playing as the queen feels very clunky, both in her initial and final boss phase. Gameplay isn't really that good. But let us be realistic here. This isn't a game for the gameplay, this is a game for the touching story and questions it asks about life. A part of me wishes there was a way to redeem the queen, but I understand that it would most likely feel cheap. Don't want to say more, just play the game. It is a good time.

Love the dungeon exploration, love managing your base, love the art style, but it does get boring after a while. I find the designs of the characters and enemies in this game to be very good (especially the bishops. My god they look sick), but for all of it's charm, it does start to feel repetitive after a while, especially the base building aspect. Also, maybe it is just me, but my game kept freezing and I constantly had to reset the game. Not a deal breaker (could have just been my computer) and overall, had a lot of fun. (Also rest in peace River Boy. You will be missed.)

This is by far one of the worst gaming experiences I have ever had. Mario Party is, well, a party game. Meant to play with your friends and future enemies. This is not that. Why is it only single player? Why are there only 4 characters? Why is the main gameplay about fetch quests? Why are gadgets even a thing? Why is the main gameplay driving around a city in a car? These are questions that may never be answered. I can't give it a one, since there are some good minigames which you can play in between the more boring gameplay, and there are some charming moments, but why would you ever touch this game? It fails at being a Mario Party game and isn't enjoyable enough to make up for that. Horrible game.

Mario Strikers Charged still holds up to this very day. The aesthetic is great and very different from the usual mario style. The gameplay is crisp, the singleplayer is shocking fun, and the new mechanics are far better than expected. Even the motion control stuff is actually quite fun. I might be blinded by nostalgia, but even then, I think this is by far the best mario sports games and one of the best sports games in general.

What a magical experience. From the moment you step onto great plateau, to the first time your receive your glider, to all the different moments, both storywise and non-story wise that you can create, this game is absolutely incredible. The combat is great, the exploration is even better and the game is so absolutely charming. While I have heard people who dislike the shrines, I disagree with them, and think that they are a great addition to the games, with some of my favourite moments coming from them. The game isn't perfect, since the actual divine beasts are somewhat lacking in interesting puzzles or combat and having your weapons break feels quite bad, but despite this, I would still give this game a 10/10. If you haven't played this game, either on WiiU or Switch, give it a go. It will be worth it.

This is one of the better instalments in the Mega Man series. The levels feel challenging, but are far more fair than it's predecessors. In addition, having two characters to pick from is very nice (personally, I prefer Bass, but both options are fun). It isn't a perfect game, since sometimes it feels like enemies pop out of nowhere to attack you, and the penultimate boss really should have been the final one. In addition to this, while it is reasonable that Ground man and Cold man are too easy, since they are beginner bosses, too many other bosses are trivialized by certain weapons, with Magic Man, Pirate Man and the first phase of King's fight being the main offenders. That being said, there are enough great boss fights to make up for it, and overall, this game is a fun experience. Would recommend.

This game is absolutely adorable. The game is very wholesome, just you controlling a dog to help your friend build a snowman. The art style is also very cute, and it is fun running around this snowy environment. However, there is one problem: the game is only around 10 minutes long. It is free, so it is 100 percent worth the money, and the game was fun while it lasted, but I can't really give it a high score since the actual game is barebones. Would recommend playing it, but can't justify rating it higher.

Pokemon Emerald Version

User ScoreeMTG
Apr 18, 2025
Pokemon emerald is my favourite pokemon ever... and the best I can say is that it is good. Not great, just good. Starting with some positives, Hoenn has one of my favourite maps in all of pokemon. The new designs are great and unique (although there are standout designs in every generation, so this isn't saying much) and the improvements from Ruby, Saphire and all the previous games are there. The gym leaders especially are improved, with Watson, Norman and Tate/Liza actually having functioning teams. This is also the hardest pokemon game I have ever played (not saying much), and while it is not for me, the battle frontier is a huge add to the region with Steven in the postgame being cool as well. That being said, there still are some problems. While this is definitely not a fair complaint due to the time it came out, the lack of a physical special split and the forced use of HMs are brutal. It leaves so many cool pokemon to the sidelines and makes the game more tedious. The movesets of the pokemon, while an improvement, are still awful, leaving pokemon like Shiftry to be completely useless. The plot is bad, with the evil teams being completely ridiculous to the point of absurdity, and Wallace as champion is a sharp downgrade from Steven. However, those are just nitpicks, and wouldn't be so bad if not for one issue. Remember how I said this is one of the hardest pokemon games? It is still far to easy for anyone not just getting into video games. It still feels like Baby's first RPG rather than an actual challenge of any capacity, and that is coming from someone bad at RPGs. Here are all the challenging pokemon in the game. Wattsons magneton (if you pick treeko and don't get any fighting/ground type), Flannery's torkoal (if you have no water or rock types), norman's slaking and linoone, all of tate and liza's pokemon, Juan's Kingdra, Glacia's Walrein, Drake's Salamence and Kingdra, and Wallace's Milotic and Ludicolo. That seems like a lot, but that is only 14 pokemon out of potential hundreds you can fight on your journey in go knows how many hours. And this is assuming you are placing any sort of restrictions on yourself, cause if your are not, that number shrinks even lower. This game just doesn't have that back and forth of struggling against a challenge and the joy of overcoming it. It only provides the latter, but without a challenge, playing the game just feels boring after a while. This game does so much well, and when compared to all other pokemon games, it has aged beautifully. But when compared to the grander scope of all games, all it can be is good. Would recommend the game if you are not an experienced gamer, but if you are, Pokemon Emerald is not the game for you.

HYPERFIGHT Max Battle

Apr 3, 2025
Hyperfight is a very simple game in concept. The idea of a one hit knockout fighter sounds boring, but in actuality is a lot more fun. Having the win condition be first to 5 means there is some (although not a lot) of depth to this game. That being said, the characters in this game are hit or miss. All the characters (except Shoto and dark Shoto) have unique gimmicks that make them special. However, they either feel bad to control (Slime Bros and Yo-Yona in particular are very annoying, although the later may just be a skill issue), or even worse, insufferable to play against (Slime Bros again, Don McRon and the frog). Still in short bursts, the game is very fun, and to top it all off, its free, so there is nothing to complain about. Probably not a 6/10 in the grand scheme of all games, but for a free quick burst of fun? Definitely worth. Hyperfight 2 looks even better, and I can't wait to play it when it comes out.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

User ScoreeMTG
Mar 24, 2025
Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a very good, but extremely flawed game. First off, the story is an incredibly mixed bag. Ignoring the DLC (which I have not played), the story can be divided into 4 routes. The Verdant Wind route is carried by the characters and the final boss, but is overall a pretty good story, while Silver Snow and Crimson Flower both make me want to tear my hair out with how awful they were written. Edelgard and Rhea are so badly characterized in these routes it is shocking. What really carries the story in my eyes is the Azure Moon route. Watching Dimitri's progression as a character is incredible, with even the earlier pre-timeskip parts being enhanced in this routes compared to others since Ashe and Sylvain having big parts that are only emphasized in this route. I am not going into detail since I don't want to spoil anything, just now of the few FE games I have played, this route has the best story. The mechanics are at their best in this series, with one major flaw. This game really should have used the weapons triangle. Nevertheless, all of the other mechanics are great. Teaching your students to make them better at certain skills feels rewarding, battalions are a natural inclusion that makes you feel like a genius when playing, the recruitment system is a simple yet effective way to increase your army without feeling overpowered and the option to play without permadeath is great to someone who isn't the biggest fan of the mechanic. I also like how you have to plan differently to fight the Beasts than when you fight human opponents. Playing the game feels great. The characters in the game are great. I know I just said that I hate the way Edelgard is written, but that is exclusively in her route. In the other 3, she is a great character that makes you think a lot and serves as a great comparison to the protagonists of each respective protagonist. Most of the students are very well written too, with Sylvain, Dorothea, Mercedes, Lysisthea, Flaynn, Seteth and Dedue being my favourties. Even some of the less liked characters, like Cyril, Hanneman, Caspar and Leonie, are characters that I still enjoy. But the stars of the show are Claude and Dimitri. Claude is just an absolute blast to have around, with him just being one of the most charming characters to engage with, and he has a lot of depth to him (which I will not spoil, go play the game). Dimitri has the best development in the game, and is one of my favourite characters not just in gaming, but in media all together. Not every character is great (Rhea, Gilbert and every antagonist except the Death Knight and the final boss of Golden Deer is pretty bad) but overall, the characters are great. Lastly, the atmosphere, both in the monastery and during combat is great. The monastery gives an opportunity to interact with the aforementioned great characters, and it feels so relaxing to just walk around in. It does get old after a while, but I think that has more to do with having over 100 hours and less to do with the game itself. The scenery in the combat is also great. While I don't use it often, sometimes I like using the zoom in mode to see my battalions and the scenery in greater detail. Just don't play too many auxiliary battles (they reuse the same maps too many times), and you will be fine. Overall, I loved my experience with the game, but there were some major hangups, mainly with the story. If the story was better in Silver Snow and Crimson Flower I could have given it a nine or even a ten if I feel a bit generous, but I can't do that since only half of the story is good. Still, would highly recommend this game. Just stick to Blue Lions and Goldeen Deer.

I mean, it is a passable licensed platform fighter. The mechanics are bad, the game feels jerky, and the amount of times you will yell "that didn't hit!?" is absurd. But the game can still be enjoyable. It's nothing special, and if you have any access to another platform fighter, like Smash, Brawlhalla or Rivals of Aether, you will never chose this, but for what its worth, it could be a lot worse. Put this on at a get together with some friends and it will be fun. Otherwise, just do something else.

While I have not played all the pokemon games out there, this one is by far the worst experience I have had with one. The gameplay loop is sound, the designs of the pokemon are still good and imagianitive and the characters are at their best, with only generations 5 and 9 having a better story. However, there is one thing that lowers this score so drastically, and that is pacing. This game just puts you through cutscene hell and doesn't let you go. Just starting the game takes so long. Routes are far shorter than previously and at the end of each one is usually a cutscene. Not a bit of dialogue as seen in the first three generations. Not a short cutscene in specific towns or in key moments. Even games like the gen 9 games and my first pokemon game, Shield, don't bombard you with this many cutscenes. They aren't great at it, but you can progress the story over time. Here it feels like progressing is like moving through molasses. There are some other issues too, mainly with the mechanics. Z-Moves just aren't fun to use or play around. They feel cheap on both sides. I don't know how to describe it, but it feels worse than Megas, Tera or even Dynamax. Also, the game feels so weirdly separate. While this is more a stylistic choice I don't like, I am not a fan of 4 (5 if you count Aether foundation) islands instead of a connected map. Makes the world feel a lot smaller. This is really annoying because there is genuinely so much to love. As I mentioned, the story is near the best in the series. The core gameplay loop is still great (although Pokemon never did and unless Z-A changes my mind probably never will have a particularly strong one compared to other games, but that is another story), the Totem Pokemon and trials are a surprisingly good replacement for gyms and the new designs are some of the coolest in the series, with Golisopod, Pallosand, and Bewear being standouts. The alolan forms are also such a cool addition. But none of this matters if the game feels unplayable. If you want to play a modern pokemon game, S/S and S/V are far superior (even if they are both incredibly flawed), and while I haven't played Legends Arceus, I assume that is too. I just wish this game didn't feel unplayable, or else it could have been one of the best.

The little minigames scattered throughout the world also add a bit of a break from the main story. The story is also very touching. The one issue I had with the game was that it is the kind of game that once you beat it, I can't see much of a reason to play it again.
