Not what I was expecting given the favorable reviews. Uninteresting mechanics in the basic gameplay and not so interesting special encounters. The mood and story promises but it's ultimately underwhelming. The only major positive it's some nice puzzles but that's all.
Hades is a good game but a bit of a disappointment too. With all the raving reviews you would expect a masterful history, but sadly just isn’t there. At the beginning the game promises you a very good history and that promise keeps you hooked at the start but it never fully delivers its promise, the history being too dragged over the course of the game and never that deep of meaningful. I found fun the jokes and humor for the most part but they felt directed too much for angsty teenagers and a weird mix with the supposedly epic Greek drama. That mix didn’t work well for me. The gameplay is solid with different weapons that allow for replayability and the random generation of “dungeons” keeps it fresh for a while, if you play long enough it starts to feel samey though. Hades is a very fun game to play for a while before it gets repetitive but not the masterpiece I was expecting.
