Death Stranding6
Jan 3, 2025
Gameplay-wise, it's surprisingly addictive, considering how extremely basic it is. You're going from point A to point B, that's it. But the environment itself is here a challenging gameplay element in itself. Figuring out HOW to get between these locations - preparing the journey with appropriate tools, weapons, vehicles, etc. depending on the environment and enemies is necessary for survival. Furthermore, the world painted here is incredibly nicely realized, incorporating ways to deal with death and fast travel that make sense given the world presented, in contrast to other games. BUT, and this is a big but. The dialogue and and how the story at times is presented is very... cringe. It's hard to take it seriously. Should it even be taken seriously? And the last two hours of this game might be the worst I've ever experienced in a AAA game. Talk about not knowing what made this a good game. Maybe Kojima is just playing a prank on us?

Alan Wake II is the result of trying too hard to be artsy and in the process forgetting to make a compelling video game. Stay clear and play the wildy superior original instead.

Amnesia: The Bunker7
Jun 10, 2023
Massive improvement over the scripted letdown that was Rebirth. This game focuses on what made the first Amnesia great, namely the dynamic and frightening gameplay, and expands on that with a semi-open world, crafting and weapons. This means more freedom in how you tackle the game. It is quite terrifying overall, with simple but effective graphics and immersive audio that had me on the edge of my seat. The developers doesn't hold the player's hand with tutorials, but rather lets me explore and figure out stuff on my own. Immersion seems to have been key here and it succeeds most of the time. However, there are some downsides. The controls are a bit clunky and the gameplay and how the story is presented feels a bit dated and un-immersive in some ways. For example, the game pauses when you bring up the inventory, reading texts etc. Sure, the game would perhaps have been frustrating if not paused as it is designed now, but this can be overcome with smart design. Furthermore, while you often can tackle obstacles in different ways, sometimes things that you think would work, doesn't. But overall, a good and really scary game.

Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood10

The best WWII shooter I've played. An improvement over the superb Hill 30 in every way with better A.I and maps that lets you use some really satisfying tactics to take out the enemy.

Pokemon GO5

Best premise of the decade and extremely addictive. The gameplay mechanics has unfortunately been very simplified though to appeal to a larger audience with poor combat and no real strategy required.

INSIDE10

This is without a doubt one of the most memorable and best games I've played in a long time and a game that while very similar to Limbo, is better than that title in every way. Without any dialogue it presents a tale that's horrific, fascinating and up to the player to interpret. The flow of the game is also fantastic, with no area dragging for too long and puzzles that never gets you frustrated. The ending sequence which is utterly amazing could have been just a tad longer though. All in all Inside really shows what video games can accomplish and what makes the medium totally unique.

What a beautiful and boring game, I must say. Nice graphics can only take a game so far. The developers have clearly prioritized wrong when making this game.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons9
Jan 3, 2015
Wow. What an amazing experience. The premise that you control each brothers with a thumbstick is genius. It makes your connection to them (through gameplay) even larger. The story itself isn't really something we haven't seen before, but the presentation of the story is so engrossing with it's minimalistic approach. Quite frankly, a very unique and spectacular game. I also thought the lenght of the game was perfect, clocking in at about three hours.

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward7

A very interesting game. The plot has many twists and a lot of different outcomes, and all the characters are unique and unpredictible. In my opinion it gets a bit to slow paced though as the dialogues can drag on for eternity it seems without you doing nothing but inhaling tons of information.

Gone Home4

I'm so happy I bought this at a steam sale with 50 percent off because this was quite frankly, very boring. A video game should always focus on what sets video games apart from other mediums, which is solid gameplay. This is the strong foundation **** game, so it doesn't matter how good the story is or how many spot on 90's references there are if the game is not engrossing to play. It is NOT engrossing to go around and read notes for two hours.

Killzone 210
May 30, 2013
An absolutely fantastic game with the best atmosphere in a war-based shooter that I've ever played. The conflict between Vekta and Helghan feels real. It's dark, horrible, scary, and yet so utterly fantastic. Killzone 2 feels realistic due to the controls which on purpose are a bit slow and hard maneuvered. You have to take cover, flank, in short use a strategy to survive. Like it should be in a war. One of the best games of the entire generation.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss8
May 13, 2013
I was amazed of how well Uncharted's great gameplay and narrative translated to the small screen. On top of that there are some (honestly) cool Vita-exclusive features which draw me into the experience even more. All this combined with a lengthy campaign makes a winner and one of Vita's best games.

BioShock Infinite8
May 7, 2013
Bioshock Infinite has fantastic art direction, narrative, atmosphere and setting. The gun fights could have been better and more exciting though. There is no need of strategy to the encounters that were such a big and important part of the original Bioshock. But still. This is a game with so much ambition and heart that I easily recommend this to any shooter fan out there.

Can blocks have personality? Yes, in Thomas Was Alone they have. They don't speak for themselves, but an excellent narrator give them life and makes this game more than a simple, random platformer/puzzle game.

Okami HD9
May 4, 2013
Okami in full hd is perhaps the most beautiful game ever. All those details that were lost in the original pops out of the picture to form an artistic masterpiece. On top of that Okami is filled with interesting characters, excitement and humor. The game lack challange (you will never die) but it has more soul than most games out there.
