I had never seen the original Pet Sematary before this film, so I managed to go in with no expectation and judge this movie on its own merit. It's not a bad movie, and it certainly has moments of genuine terror and suspense, and strong performances but sadly it is held back by a lengthy, plodding, and an exposition-heavy first half. By the time it finally kicks off, in contrast to the first half of the film, the later half feels rushed and over far too soon. Overall, I would say as far as Stephen King movies go, it's not the worst, but it never rises to the standard set by 2017's "IT".

Having seen all the Friday the 13th films, I can say this: none of them are what you would call "good movies". They're dumb fun, and that's why I enjoy them. You don't come to these movies for the horror(what little there really is), or for the shallow and disposable characters. You come to them for Jason and to watch him kill people in creative and crazy ways. This movie delivers on that front, even if it is a little derivative and trite. The kills aren't going to match the creativity of some of the later Friday the 13th films, but that's only because it's more grounded like the original four and it (mostly)works. The Jason in this film is like a menacing predator stalking in the bushes rather than the hulking unstoppable force of death Kane Hodder was during his time as the character, and it's a shame that it never got a sequel, because the idea of Jason as a "hunter" is far more appealing. Overall, this movie serves as a solid reboot the franchise, and it certainly will hold up better than the original ever did.

Some of my earliest memories are of watching old episodes of "Winnie the Pooh" on VHS. This movie helped recapture that child-like wonder and joy I felt over two decades ago. Though, it does feel like it's over too soon. The first half is a lot of build up and then it feels like it's just rushing to get to the climax. Still, an enjoyable, sweet film for children and their parents.

Honestly cannot remember the last time I smiled so much watching a DC movie. This film combines the fun of "Aquaman" with the heart of "Wonder Woman". The combination makes for the most enjoyable film in the DCEU(or whatever WB's calling it now) for all ages. Even if the stakes never truly feel high, a lot of the CG effects leave a lot to be desired, and the villain usually approaches Marvel-villain level of quality, there's plenty of humor and heart in the story to keep you entertained throughout.

Atmospheric, creepy, scary, and downright tense, "Us" is a great follow-up to Peele's "Get Out" that will leave you sufficiently entertained, and most likely a little disturbed.

Not Marvel's worst movie- Dark World still reigns supreme there-, but sadly it ranges primarily from "meh" to "pretty good". Brie Larson does a decent job, but for whatever the reason she mostly just comes off as flat throughout the movie. Meanwhile, Samuel L. Jackson is definitely the stand out in this film, and the rest of the supporting cast mostly hits. In my honest opinion, the only reason this movie doesn't excel as it should is because it has the burden of serving as origin story to this supposedly integral character during a point in the MCU where an origin story just feels jarring. Infinity raised the stakes so high, and this movie did little to sate my appetite for what's coming next. Had this been a Phase 1 film, it probably would have fared much better, but as it is now, only a month out from Infinity War, it just feels average.

It's definitely trying something semi-new here by completely getting rid of the park and the island, but there a plenty of the same beats from the Lost World that keep it from being wholly original. It attempts to be a bite tense and frightening than the ones before it, and it works to a degree, especially considering most of the "big moments" take place in confined spaces. It's obvious from the ending- and the money this film has made already- that the franchise isn't going extinct anytime soon, and it's going to be interesting to see how they pull off the next one. Overall it's enjoyable, it has some moments that make it better than the last one, but it doesn't even begin the reach the heights of the original Jurassic Park and your appreciation for this film may depend on how well you received Jurassic World and if you enjoy this new path their taking these films going forward.

Just watched this film for the first time. I was born in 91' and throughout the 90s I saw plenty of good movies from the 80s as a kid. Never saw this one, and that is probably why I have say...I don't get the hype for this. I fail to see how it's regarded as one of "the greatest movies of all time" as I've heard quite a few people hail it. I mean, I can see how a lot of people who grew up around the time of the movies release might appreciate it for what it is, but as of 2018 at 27 years old, I've seen this movie done multiple times and done much better. The only thing this movie did for me was make me appreciate Stranger Things more, and both the original "It" tv series and the 2017 "It", even E.T. resonated with me more than this and I haven't seen that particular film in years. Now, The Goonies isn't a bad film by any means, but it's certainly not the mega hit that was talked up to me by so many. Maybe, I'm just a millennial, but I honestly can't see myself watching this again.

Scattershot is the best way to describe this movie. There's far too much going on, none of it really leads to anything worthwhile, the sub-plots are more or less pointless, and the main plot itself becomes superfluous very fast. Really, the only thing this movie has going for it is the animation; Illumination IS becoming an animated powerhouse. However, this movie is incredibly disposable, and a prime example of franchise overstaying it's welcome while doing everything it can to sustain revenue. Let it die, Universal, it's over.

It's not an unwatchable movie by any means, though the plot isn't anything original, the script is pretty dull, and Jared Leto once again turns in a performance so wooden and bland you'll wonder how he ever won an Oscar in the first place. At only two hours long, it isn't hard to sit through; many scenes are shot very well and the heavy Japanese cast definitely make the otherwise plodded pace of the film bearable. The biggest problem with the movie is that nothing exciting really happens all that much, even its climax lacks any real payoff and Jared Leto's character is entirely forgettable in a face of Japanese actors who carry this film despite him. Overall, the movie makes me think Netflix has a long way to go when it comes to producing solid films, if they are even capable of such a thing to begin with given what we've gotten since late last year.

Beautifully shot, impeccably acted, and extremely heartfelt, the Shape of Water is easily one of, if not THE best film of 2017. See this movie and understand why Guillermo del Toro has been given the title of "Visionary Director" and just why this film won TWO well-deserved Oscars.

Cool concept, but it doesn't quite execute it an innovative or interesting way. The characters are rather cut and dry and don't have a lot of depth, but they service the story(what little there is) sufficiently. The special effects are the only real high point of this film. Watching it, it honestly feels like it would have made a better video game than a film.

Finally a Marvel movie that steps outside the factory mold. A cast of great deep characters, brilliantly performed, and a Marvel villain that isn't shallow or played by an under-utilized actor. The action set pieces are some of the best in any solo Marvel movie. Special effects are top notch. Easily one of the best MCU films, right up there with Ragnarok, Winter Soldier, and the first Avengers.

I watched this film at the recommendation of a friend. They warned me going in that isn't wasn't great, but it had B Horror charm to it. After sitting through this film, I have to disagree with my friend. There isn't a great deal of charm in this film at really, what here is, a thinly written script, incredibly thin characters, and a story that ultimate doesn't really lead anywhere satisfying or otherwise. The movie is about three American tourists visiting the Buddhist temples of Japan. The one they choose to visit is apparently haunted after several children went missing there and a monk was murdered decades before. Sounds like a pretty standard ghost story, but this film opts not to go that route, which ends up being to its detriment. The film doesn't seem to have a clear idea of the story it's trying to tell. The film is only seventy-eight minutes long and spend half of that time doing build **** it really builds to ANYTHING. You get to meet this poorly developed characters, learn of the love triangle that's shoehorned in here, hear them recite blade dialogue, and you get to do this for the first forty-five minutes of the film. Things don't really kick off till the last half hour, but by then you probably won't really care. The atmosphere is never really set, the threat is left rather unclear- which is partially due to how damn dark this film is. Then there's this subplot about how the events your witnessing are being narrated by a man trapped in a literal plastic bag in a "sort-of-hospital" who seems to have suffered severe physical damage to his face, while being interviewed by what I assumed where cops. Then film then ends abruptly with little to know questions answered, which ultimately leaves the film shrouded in ambiguity and with a greatly unfinished feel; it's like only 2/3 of a full movie was shot. I'm not sure what story the writer and/or director were trying to tell, but it's clear they had a rather vague idea that they never bothered to fully flesh out on paper. There are some parts of the film that are well shot, but there are no parts featuring engaging character moments or dialogue, and almost no scares or thrills. All we're left with is an idea of a story that never picks up any momentum and ends up nowhere. Take my advice, give this film a hard pass and watch The Ritual on Netflix.

Is it a great movie? No. Is it David Ayer's best movie? Absolutely not. But there's enough fantastical craziness packed in to at least warrant a look. It doesn't do the best job of world building, and some plot lines might fall a bit flat or incoherent; complete suspension of disbelief is practically required for this movie. Will Smith is back...doing Will Smith, like he **** the time, never changing. Joel Edgerton does a decent job of playing an Orc, and is definitely the better of the two characters. Plot-wise, this film is more or less a hybrid of "End of Watch" meets "Street Kings". Only one of those movies was any good, so make of that what you will. Overall, I did not dislike this film and I am curious to see what the sequel will bring, but as of right now, it's just another "okay" or "meh" David Ayer film. At least it's not as bad as Suicide Squad.

Not the DCEU's best movie, but it's definitely that step in the right direction they thought they were taking with Suicide Squad. Wonder Woman is definitely the glue that holds this universe together, but there's enough in this movie that has me excited for what comes next.

When I found it this was a prequel to 2014's Godzilla, I was super excited. This movie does an excellent job of expanding the universe they're trying to set up. Visually it's pretty damn impressive. Kong himself looks just as should for what they're trying to make him out to be. He's not just a giant silver back gorilla like Perter Jackson envisioned, he's a giant up-right walking ape that knows how to do some serous damage, and it's just an awesome display. A lot of the other monsters are beautifully presented, with the exception of the movie's "Skull Crawlers" which just fell a little flat for me in terms of design. The actors do a really great job, but they feel sort of wasted, as if they cast simply because their names would draw in viewers and not based on their acting talent, but this is just a personal gripe; Tom Hiddleston is charming as ever on screen, John Goodman performs as good as expected, and Samuel J. Jackson...well you don't need me to comment on a performance from SLJ. Overall, Kong: Skull Island is a much more "fun" film than Godzilla. You get to see a lot more of the title character than in the latter film which is a plus. However, the film's main problem is tone; it's a bit all over the place being tense one minute minute followed by camp and comedic the next. Still, it's a great build-up and if you stick around for the end credits, you'll see why.
