We bought this game to play it in COOP. The game itself is quite good and a lot of fun. Actually it is better then I expected. But I have one big problem with this game and the Dev´s. It is an always online game, but should be called a "maybe sometimes able to play" game. So, you make a game, that is not playable (not even in single player) if not connected to the servers. Now, the server did not work since the release. Now one year later, they are still not working. A week ago we played 1 mission 5 times in 40 minutes, because the server connection was gone 4 times !!! I tried playing single player with the same result. So, after one year there is still no patch, that would allow you to play offline, nor have the server issues been fixed. Honestly, can it be any clearer that the Dev´s just don´t care.... yeah, no more games from people can fly for me. What a disgrace!
About 50 hours in game and I decided to stop playing. This will be my first Pyranha Bytes game, that I won´t finish. As this will be quite the long review, let me summarize first: Graphics: ok-ish Performance: atrocious and full of glitches and bugs Quests: mostly bad World design: not as good as the first Elex, but still good The new Jetpack: fantastic! Ai: mostly braindead, especially companions Overall: boring, soulless But let me explain: Personally I really enjoyed Elex 1 and saw it as a fantastic successor to Gothic 2. Yeah, it had it´s problems, but I enjoyed it so much, that I played it 3 times. So what changed ? Graphics: ...look ok. But there´s something very wrong with the lighting (and shadows) in the game. Sometimes shadows are so dark (in the middle of the day), that I could not see an item 1 meter in front of me. (later I lowered the shader quality and this helped a bit). And sometimes indoors it gets so dark, that you won´t see anything at all, and sometimes the game "forgets" that you are inside and only some parts are dark, while others are very bright. And I won´t even start with the "uncanny valley".... Performance: ... so I just bought a new powerful PC. In the first hours it ran really smooth. Everything to max and I still got an average of 85 fps. Sometimes even 100 or more. I was just asking myself, why so many people complain about the performance.... well, a couple of minutes later I walked into my first city... yeah... suddenly I had an average of 35 fps, with occasional drops to 20!!!!!!! What a disaster! And on top of that, glitches , bugs, pop-ins.... wow.... Quests and the world: And here is the main issue with the game - at least for me. Elex 1 had a world that felt alive and quests that complimented it. The quests had many twists and always told you something about the faction you were working for or the world itself. (as an example in Elex 1 the outlaws send you to collect scrap metal and the quest transforms into a conflict with the clerics. Or the quest searching for Calaan - wow, that really was something!). In Elex 2 the quests are: fetch 10 something, kill 5 then 10 then 20 then 40 of something or find someone. 95 % of the quests are so mundane and shallow, that even for an MMO they would be bad. The NPC´s did react to stories in Elex 1. In Elex 2 a faction can be under siege and no one will care, no one will react to changes in the world. On top of that, in Elex 1 you always had a choice on what to do, in Elex 2 they´ll give you 3 choices that are the same. So many times I just wanted to say "no", but that was not an option. But there is one quest I have to mention and careful ... minor spoilers now! About 25 hours into the game I was about to quit for the first time. Then I spoke to an Alb commander (I think her name was Larissa) and that started one of the best quests I have ever played!!!! The people you meet, the unexpected twists and how the story evoives... This quest is a masterpiece and I think the best quest I played in a Pyranha Bytes game. Do you see the problem? Suddenly all the other quests seem even more shallow and boring. And unfortunately this remained the only good quest in my playthrough. The jetpack: Just let me mention that it is a lot of fun running around finding tanks to upgrade your jetpack. What a fantastic and motivating idea! A.I. and NPC´s: Some NPC´s glitch, one of my trainers disappeared after the first patch and it took me some time to find him. He was glitched into the floor and only his head was visible under a table.... lol.... Companions are useless. The melee companions will draw their weapon in a fight and then just stand there and contemplate how a monster wipes the floor with you. The ranged ones are a bit better. I usually ran around with Caja and she will shoot her fireballs, but mostly into rocks or buildings, and on rare occasions into enemies... but hey... at least she is trying!! Overall: This game is just bad! And it´s such a shame. If you consider that this was made by a small team, that manages to take on such a challenging project, that has so much work put into it (just consider that EVERY NPC is voiced and many of them by really good voice actors).... and then it ends up beeing mediocre at best. One last thing I NEED to complain about.... in the beginning you´ll learn that you became a father some years ago and you start the game by searching for your son. When you find him, the game will try very hard to make you like him. This part of the game is so bad, that I just wanted to run away. And Dev´s, it would help a lot, if this wasn´t the ugliest child I have seen in my life! If people give this mess a 10/10, then I am wondering if we have been playing the same game....
Never liked the franchise, never played a Tomb Raider before and some friends recommended this to me. What an experience! This is a really good game!!!!! Story amazing, graphics really nice, good mechanics, good puzzles with the right difficulty and a lot of variety in the game. Just fantastic!
A disappointment in almost every way. The game itself is not bad, it´s just so mediocre in comparison to the first one. But let me tell you about the improvements in BZ: The positive: GRAPHICS: Wow, this game looks good!!! BIOMES (well, at least a few of them): In the very beginning of the game you´ll soon stumble upon the twisty bridges. This is one of my favorite biomes of both games and it shines with its design and its alien looks. BASE BUILDING: the biggest improvement here is the addition of the large room. Oh boy, was I excited when I found it and amazed when I build it, because of so much room I had to play with. The negative: BIOMES: While most of them are nicely designed, they feel so "meh" compared to the first subnautica. The wonder (or terror) you felt in the first game when discovering new locations is totally gone in BZ. I thought about it, but really don´t know why many of them just feel boring. But let me tell you something about boring.... the land biome.... wow.... it´s huge, it´s white and 99% of the time you have a snow storm and can´t see more than 5 meters. There are POI´s, but so few that it just feels empty... after an hour there, I felt like I was wasting my time ( and I spent many hours there, because I thought "there must be more here" ... but "spoiler" - there isn´t)... I never had that feeling in the first Subanutica. And who thought that it was a good idea to make a large land biome, where you get stuck on every rock, as the character can´t make a jump an inch high? FAUNA: Mostly reskinned, but does not feel as dangerous as in the first part. The only time I was scared and amazed was when I encountered the ice worm - it´s so well designed and it sounds so terrifying, that suddenly all other creatures seem unpolished. VEHICLES: The devs already showed us in the first entry how much fun vehicles can be and the feeling of accomplishment you can have when building them. What happened here? The community was asking for more vehicles, but apparently that didn´t matter. The truck you get might have sounded good on paper (modular building), but just falls short to what we are used to. I remember how I often I thought "what I would give to have a Seamoth now". The biggest issue for me was the feeling, that there was no effort put in the seatruck. Originally the vehicles were so thought through in their design, that it was jaw dropping (at least for me). Being able to dock my Seamoth in the Cyclops was a brilliant idea. The Moonpool and all its functions... wow. Now I have a vehicle where I only can dock the front part in a moonpool. So, while I was used to dock and unload everything I collected, now i have to manually undock the front part, dock in the moonpool, go outside , enter "the rest" of the vehicle, get the first load of resources in my storages (and why ... WHY????.... can´t I just have one large storage???? Why so many small ones????), swim back to my base and do it all over again. WHY???? Did no one think of making a tube-like moonpool where I could dock my seatruck? And let´s not forget the snowfox. Let me just say, I´ve never had a worse handling in a video game.... So, honestly, what happened here? Did the devs think that the quality of life from the first game was too much to handle for the players? STORY: if you want to call it that. It feels like you have parts of stories that are randomly thrown together without any purpose. So, the main plot is that your sister died and now you want to investigate what happened to her. Alterra (the bad, bad company) told you she died because of negligence. Later on you´ll find a PDA in which it is mentioned again and - as far as I know - that is it. Did I miss something? I know the story was changed in mid-development and I don´t know what it was. So is this a remnant of the old story??? PDA´s now contain totally mundane information of the interactions of the science crew on the planet. Do you remember the story of the Degasi survivors? Where is the quality of such storytelling gone? The "other" story got interesting later on, but 5 minutes later the game ended. I remember that I thought "what? that´s it?" IN GENERAL: Of course we all expected a better Subnautica, or at least one of the same quality. And in some degree BZ does that, but also does so many steps backwards in so many other aspects. The wonder, the fear and the sense of accomplishment is missing here completely. I also was expecting some more "new" craftables. If you have never played Subnautica, then I would recommend to play BZ first and then Subnautica 1.
So, I decided to give this game another try... It's 2020 and so much has changed. Originally I gave this game a 3/10. Now I have to correct this, as almost all of the bugs have been fixed and there has been A LOT added to the game. I guess, now it is what people expected it to be upon release,... well, maybe even more then that. If like me you didn´t enjoy it years ago, try it now.... you´ll be surprised. At least I was and I really had a good time playing it!
Just brilliant! Good graphics (except the characters), fantastic story, game mechanics, enemies ... no bugs... One of the best openings I have ever seen in a game. If you are planing to play Prey, the game shines on a higher difficulty
After Mutant Year Zero this is such a disappointment! For me MYT was almost a perfect game. Seed of evil was less good. And this is just lazy... In comparison to MYT: - skills and XP system gone - weapon upgrades gone - weapon modding gone - Armor and helmets gone (and no visual soldier customization) - buying gear gone - artifacts gone - the very good dialogues between your soldiers gone (now they are mute) - story... yeah... well... if you want to call it that... - interesting maps with variety gone, but a lot of map recycling . really a lot! (gets very repetitive and boring quickly) - loot on the maps almost gone (just medkits and grenades which don´t respawn, but enemies do) To be fair, yes, you find upgrades for your soldiers that replace armor, helmets, weapon mods, skills, well... basically everything, but you just can equip three of them. I think this was just a cash grab. While the game mechanics remain good, it feels soulless and lazy. If you haven´t played Mutant year zero, play it instead of this....
I didn´t expect the game to be this good! Thank you Devs! Just 10 minutes into the game and I was totally emerged in the world. The maps sparkle with love for detail, the dark mood of the postapocalyptic world draw one in, the characters have depth and have interesting (different) skilltrees and the tactical gameplay is awesome and very good balanced. Even the cut scenes, which merely consist of pictures and a narrator are good (yeah, I know, difficult to believe). The only thing I can criticize is the sparse trading system. A shop (with totally overpriced items), with a meagre selection of goods and no selling option.... half my inventory are smoke grenades.....
I loved Mutant year zero - road to eden. With seed of evil you´ll get a new story, new maps and revisit some locations from the original game. I really like the gameplay, the amazing ambience/mood of the game and the good dialogs. BUT...... seed of evil feels rushed and totally not balanced: - there are some improvements to skills which I could max out immediately (as you continue playing with the old characters).... really??? At the end - without doing all the side missions - I had an average of 34 (!!!!) unspent skill points per character that I could not use!!!!! - There are some new weapons, but none as good as what you already have (at least as far as what I found) - No new armor, but at least some really nice and useful hats/helmets (especially if you value movement and weapon range) - Do you remember how important it was to scavenge as much as possible, because you always needed scrap and weapon parts? Well, not anymore.... As you do not find anything useful, weapon parts become obsolete. In the shop there are no new weapons to buy. Trust me, I rushed back to the Ark every time the game told me, that there were new items in the shop... but the only weapon I could buy was the crossbow that Dux has from the very beginning. So I finished the game with almost 1000 scrap and 600 weapon parts... (just bought a couple of medkits and some grenades) I wonder how the dlc has such a poor balance, having had such a great one in the original game.... All in all, the dlc is still fun, but if you expect the same quality as the main game then you´ll be disappointed. At least I am....
The best survival game and one of the best games I´ve played. Thank you Dev´s for this amazing experience! This game is really something! Survival with story? Yes, and a good one. The game has a goal (well, more then one), has a great progression, a fantastic world and a very good crafting and (kind of) research system. Vehicle Design - the best I have ever seen! Like no other game, it manages to bring forth many contrary feelings a once. Let me explain what I´m thinking as I get to a new biome for the first time: It´s so dark - I´m scared. But there are glowy things everywhere - it´s so beautiful. The music - I´m terrified! What kind of new machinery (unlocks) will I find here - I´m curios. Look a that thing swimming over there, is that making that awful noise? Let´s have a look - and some seconds later - I´m getting out of here and never, never, never coming back.... even though I´ll have to eventually. :-) I think Subnautica is a horror game disguised as a beautiful survival crafting game. But let´s start nitpicking.... is it absolutely perfect? No.... Even with a high end pc I still have pop-ups. Towards the end of the game, there was a moment I felt a bit lost and was unsure of what to do (because I didn´t read all the entries in my PDA) Has no tutorial (but is very intuitive) I thought about giving this game a 9/10, but even if it´s not perfect, the experience is a 12/10.... I hope the developers made a lot of money with this and will continue at this level of quality in other games! If you don´t know Subnautica, don´t look it up... just PLAY THIS GAME!
So, first of all, for a release there are just too many bugs! My favorite one is when you walk and suddenly get thrown up into the air - for no apparent reason - a then die from falling damage. Really, Dev´s? About the game itself I´m a bit torn. Let´s start with the pros: There´s quiet a lot of progression in the game. You start with some basic stuff and through a lot of research, you´ll be able to travel to other planets. The machines look nice and there are some good ideas, like the trading system, that will allow you to buy resources without having to travel somewhere, just because you are missing one certain resource. The cons: While machines look nice, the terrain itself looks just awful... Almost no threats in the game - no animals - it just feels lonely. (Just some OP-plants.... yes, a mushroom can kill you) Vehicles handle terribly, get stuck a lot and are not that useful (except for maybe getting research items). The crafting system. It´s nice in the beginning, but later on you have a lot of different resources, that you can combine into other resources to craft more advanced stuff. The problem here is, that you´ll run around your base collecting each one of the required components in order to feed them to the printers. Why isn´t there a main storage where the printers take resources from? Why do I have to feed them every single one of them??? This got tedious and irritating rapidly... The game gets boring after a couple of hours, but especially the endgame, when you just run around and dig to get the "unlocks" for the ending. The bugs! So many... Overall I must say, the idea of the game is good, but it just wasn´t so much fun to play. Even if the many bugs are fixed, the gameplay would still be mediocre at best.
I think I´ve never seen a game with so many unjust ratings as this one. Giving Battletech a rating above 8 or below 3 is, from my point of view, just unfair. If you read through all the 10 and 0 ratings, most of what people say is true (they just decide to ignore the rest). Is the game bad? Well, from the technical side... absolutely! The very poor performance, loading times, the amount of bugs, glitches, sound errors, save game issues ... wow... this is not an early access game, it´s a full release! I have to wonder if the devs ever played their game before releasing it? Is the game good? Well, actually it is. Being a fan of the xcom series (but not expecting as much), I really was surprised by the strategic depth of the game. You have a ton of options outfitting your mechs. Unleashing hell on your enemies and blowing up their mechs is very satisfying. But let me tell you about specific issues people seem to have with game: The story: The story is not that bad, it´s the presentation that ruins it. What breaks the mood is f.e. that talking to your crew will reward you with textboxes, more textboxes and even more textboxes.... sigh... the graphics: I´ve seen worse. the balancing: this really is an issue. Here the game could have used some more tweaking before release. Most of the missions are good, but suddenly you´ll tumble into one that is either really hard or just pathetic. Let me tell you about my experience with my "protect the convoy missions": 1st mission: Escort convoy to the city. City is located to the left (as are my mechs), convoy in the middle and enemies to the right. First turn, convoy turns around and drives into the enemies and dies. 2nd mission: Escort the convoy to it´s destination. I start at the same location as the convoy, there´s a road with blockades, behind them, the goal. Convoy drives so fast, that non of my mechs could keep up with it. I managed to save one truck (from 8). 3rd mission: Protect... and so on. Convoy starts next to the enemies and dies in the first turn. I guess that the missions are random gen. Some are bad, but most of them are really good. Tutorial: Really? No one here had an issue with that? I watched two tutorials on youtube on how the mechs and tactics work, as the game does barely explain the depths of the combat. What is Battletech? I have no clue, what it is supposed to be. But I thought it was funny to read reviews with a rating of 0, because it was nothing like battletech and others with 10 because it is exactly like batlletech. Ok... I guess... Overall rating: It´s a really good turn based strategy game, with a lot of depth, but it suffers from so many technical issues. If you have not yet played Battletech, then wait for A LOT of patches, before playing it.
The first time I saw this game, I thougt "just another minecraft clone"... I was so wrong.... The depth and complexity of the game is just mind blowing. If I had to describe the game, I´d say it´s kind of a mix of minecraft, factorio and tower defense. The main part of the game (after a couple of hours into the game) is building and automation. If you get into this, beware the hours you´ll spend here!
Reading through the critic reviews I wonder if we´ve been playing the same game... In comparison to the stick of truth this feels soulless. Yeah ok, the combat "mechanics" are a bit better and there are still moments that make you smile, but the game is just not fun to play. The story is sooo boring! Totally not worth the money! If you have not played South Park, buy the stick of truth, but this one I wouldn´t even recommend on sale.
This game is fantastic! I´ve been waiting for a game like this since Gothic 2. Most positive aspects have been mentioned by other users, but I have to emphasize the beauty of the world of elex. Exploring is so much fun in this game!!! And I don´t mean the graphics quality. The graphics look a bit old (thats why 9/10), but that doesn´t change the fact, that it´s a great game!
A lot of people criticise the ending of ME3. Okay, there are better endings for a game. Nevertheless this is a really good game. Gameplay is as expected, the skilltrees (thank you bioware) got a bit larger then in ME2, graphics are good and story is thrilling. Unfortunately the characters lack depth in comparison to ME2. For me, this was much more an issue then the ending of the game. The attachment you had to your crew in ME2 is missing completely. Sometimes I even avoided people on the Normandy, because they were unsympathetic. But it still is a good game.
As a fan of the xcom games I was a bit scared, when I read that the game should become "more accessible" to a larger audience. But what a great job the developers did!!! Still has a lot of depth and is a lot of fun to play. One of the best turn-based-strategy games I know. But after playing this game twice, unfortunately there is not much replayabillity
Bioware used to be a guarantee for good games. But this game is just terrible! Graphics are pretty nice, there are some astonishing places in the game, but unfortunately that`s all I can say in favor of the game. I spent (wasted) almost 20 hours with the game, but then it became so unbearably boring, that I had to play something else. Storytelling is boring with very slow pacing (ok, there are worse, but not so many), characters are very boring, skilltrees boring, controls are terrible... In my opinion this is the worst game I played in 2014, maybe I expected too much from a dragon age, as I really liked the other parts.
