Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved

'Geometry Wars' is a fantastic little dual stick space shooter that feels reminiscent of one of my favorite 'N64' games growing up as a kid, that just so happened to share similar controls; 'Robotron 64'. And for only a few dollars, you too can have the pleasure of destroying flying shapes while avoiding seizures in your own living room. Because the real star of this game is not the tight controls, or the perfect soundtrack, or how addicting this game can get; nope, the real star of this game is the insane visual effects that grabbed everyone's attention when this game was originally released on XBLA almost a decade ago. Sure the servers are no longer up and running, so high scores no longer matter, but that doesn't change the fact that ‘Geometry Wars’ is insanely cheap and will undoubtedly offer it’s value in about an hour of gameplay.

These days pinball machines are nowhere near as popular as they once were, and even for a kid like me who grew up in the 90's before the whole "internet" thing really took over; pinball still wasn't very popular back then either. But it's been around for as long as most people can remember, and as far as I can tell, it's not going anywhere anytime soon. And I'm totally okay with that, because it's usually the simplest games that are the most fun to play, and are typically the hardest to master. At least, I think people can master pinball. If you've ever played pinball and enjoyed it, then I'm sure there was something about the machine that drew you to it in particular; maybe it was 'Star Wars' themed, or maybe it was modeled after ‘NASCAR’, or perhaps you liked the one based on 'The Sopranos'; regardless of your taste, the beauty of 'Pinball FX' is how many choices you get in tables. It's got everything you could ask for in terms of themes, and each table offers it's own unique story and intricacies, making them all feel different and original. And new ones are still being released too, so there’s always something to look forward to up on the horizon. Despite the significant drop in popularity, pinball machines are still being produced today, and typically appear in bars for drunks to enjoy. But if there aren’t any in sight, and you still feel the need to get your pinball on, this is a great replacement to sit back with a sixer, and try and run up some high scores. And the best part about each table is that you get to test it out for a few minutes before deciding whether or not you want to purchase it. There are a few pinball games on Steam, but I have to assume this is the best one out there. Download it today and give it a try, you've got nothing to lose; not even a quarter!

I'm not sure how many people out there were wondering what it's like to move boxes from point A to point B, but apparently there were enough of them to warrant the making of this game. It's easy to make fun of simulation games these days when companies are offering up titles such as 'Warehouse and Logistics Simulator', but I wouldn't have nearly as much of a problem with it if they at least attempted to make this game even remotely fun to play. "Hey kids, do you love forklifts? Well, grab a controller and hop onto the wildest forklift simulation game that your parents don't want you to know about! Lift boxes! Lift crates! Lift them inside! Lift them outside! It's a lift-mania!" For the most part, I would say that I'm a fan of simulation games; if they're done well and offer a glimpse into a world that some find interesting, or entertaining. But nobody wants the 'Home Depot' Simulator, I'm sorry to say. I mean what's next, the Assembly Line Simulator? No!

If you've ever wondered what it was like to be a truck driver, out there on that lonely road, left to your own personal devices, then your opportunity has finally arrived! I mean sure, there have been plenty of truck driving simulators for the PC over the past few decades, but let's be honest here and admit that they all **** and were basically just one big gigantic tease that all of us truck driving simulator enthusiasts had to endure for what seemed like an eternity, to finally get to the only one worth playing; 'Euro Truck Simulator 2'! If you like the idea of casually driving down the highway, listening to your favorite music or talk radio stations after a long day of work, then this game is for you. There's just something about using turn signals, adjusting mirrors, and following the general rules of the road that screams relaxing to me, and this game does it all perfectly. Load up your own mp3s or stream from your favorite radio stations as you travel around actual European landscapes all from the comfort of your own living room. This game seems like it would be even more enjoyable with a physical steering wheel and pedal. Well worth the price, and I'm really looking forward to the US version.

I've scored many games in many bundles over the last year, and I must say that I couldn't be happier with this one in particular. 'Ski Region Simulator' is exactly what you'd expect out of a simulation game. It's relaxing, it's not very challenging, it works perfectly with a controller, and it offers just enough variety and just enough incentive to keep itself interesting for a good four or five hours, at least. Giving you some money and a dream, 'Ski Region' gives you the tools and the talent to take a single trail and turn it into a massive ski empire. And I'm not sure about you, but personally, I've always wanted to build my very own highly successful virtual ski resort. I guess somebody out there was listening. It's not an easy road though, as you scratch and claw your way to the very top of the premiere ski resort league, and many obstacles will surely get in your hair before the journey is through. Maintaining trails, transporting injured skiers, and other various tasks such as moving salt, and adjusting daily prices occur throughout a busy ski day and it's now your responsibility to take care of the minutia. Buy trails, hire help, and build businesses such as restaurants, schools, day-care centers, and more as you repay your loan to the bank and gain a reputation as a world class ski resort operator. And let's not forget about the vehicles like snowmobiles, tractors, and other things that are fun to drive around in the snow, messing with the trails that you hope to own some day. So like I said, this game is pretty relaxing, and if you're not looking for a challenge, then it's easy to burn a few hours trying to build a successful resort. And ten dollars is a really fair price as well, considering how well the game works with a controller and the overall quality; although the graphics are somewhat dated. 'Ski Region Simulator' is easily one of the better simulation games that I have played on Steam.

When most people compile a mental list of the best open-world first person shooters these days, a few games come to mind, and 'Borderlands 2' is usually one of them. You just can't help but love this game from the moment you set sights on it's beautiful cell-shaded art style, and hear it's over the top potty-mouthed humor. It's got vehicles, it's got massive guns and explosives with the ability to upgrade them at will, there's tons of mini-bosses, tons of boss bosses, enemies and villains alike, it's got an atmosphere that feels completely immersive despite it's cartoonish overtone; it's got everything you would come to expect from a polished AAA title, and it does it all extremely well. Aside from the basics mentioned above, I think this game's biggest selling points these days is the fact that it's often on sale for as little as five measly dollars, still has a strong multiplayer community, has an extremely long single player campaign, and is as polished as titles get. I could go on and on about the characters, the storyline, the XP system, or the lay of the land, but what's the point? It's all good. You know this already. That's why you're here, and if it's on sale for five bucks then you should pick it up and play it like you stole it, because in many ways you did. This game is the epitome of why we buy our games on Steam; three tacos would cost you more!

When I was younger everyone I knew was a huge fan of 'Half Life', myself included. And 'Red Faction' was a pretty popular game upon it's release, but for the most part nobody really cared about it all that much after that. Which makes sense I suppose, I mean, 'Half Life' had the mod 'Counter-Strike' and it's revolutionary multiplayer, and 'Red Faction' had the gimmick of being able to destroy everything in your path, which was actually a pretty big deal back then if I remember correctly. But still, 'Half Life' was the game everyone cared about, the game everybody played; so it's safe to say that 'Red Faction' was swept under the rug for the majority of kids growing up in the 90's. Which isn't all that surprising actually, games were much more hit or miss back in those days, so when people found something that was great, they stuck to it and played it til they could no longer. To say it best, 'Red Faction' was the Utah Jazz to 'Half Life's' Chicago Bulls. Yeah, let's see how many of you get that reference. However, after coming back to this game after almost two decades, and having never beaten it until just recently, I can honestly say that 'Red Faction' is just as good as 'Half Life', if not better. You would think that such an early game with the premise for total destruction would be mediocre at best, but the developers nailed it the first time around. Combine that with combat that's just as fun as any other first person shooter on the market today, controls that feel natural from the get-go, and the ability to drive vehicles much like in the 'Halo' games, and you've got yourself one hell of a timeless shooter.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

If you don't like 'Brothers', then you simply don't like video games at all. Well, okay, maybe that's not entirely true and I may be a bit melodramatic when saying that, but I really can't figure out a reason why someone would dislike this game, other than the fact that it's pretty short. Although making this game longer would most likely deter from it's beauty. Simply put, this is one of the best and most original puzzle games that I have played in a while, and although it's not exactly the most difficult, the reward is in the storytelling. It's not easy to portray emotion in a video game without saying a word, but this game pulls it off in style. While I agree that all video games, no matter how bad or good they are, are a form of art, this game is a shining example of it. Emotional storytelling combined with controls that make sense not only to the gameplay, but say even more on a narrative level, 'A Tale of Two Sons' shines the most when it comes to how we interact with the characters. By giving players the opportunity to control both brothers at once by utilizing the dual sticks on your gamepad, 'Brothers' takes storytelling through gameplay to a new level. This may sound difficult to control at first, but after a few minutes you'll get the hang of it and will often forget that you're controlling two people at the same time without much thought. This game more than deserves the amount of praise that it has been given and I hope to see more video games that utilize this control concept. The art style here is fantastic, the variety in gameplay will keep you entertained the whole way through, and the puzzle elements although simplistic are incredibly fun when combined with the controls. The asking price may be a bit high for such a short game, but the next time this one is on sale, I would recommend picking it up to pretty much anyone.

‘Are you the key-master?’ It took me almost twenty years to realize that this is a reference to a ****. Alright, Ghostbusters: The Game! But before I say anything more, I must admit that ‘Ghostbusters: The Movie’ is probably my favorite movie of all time. The first one, not the second one…let’s not get crazy here. I must have seen that movie over 100 times by now, and I’ll gladly sit down to watch it sometime in the near future, possibly even after I finish this review. Back off man, I’m a scientist. So needless to say, I’m a really big fan. Anyway, this isn't the first Ghostbusters game to have been made, and if you've played the ones for Nintendo, you’ll know that they aren't very good. They’re pretty terrible actually. So when I first picked this one up, I had pretty low expectations, especially since Atari released it. Now I have no idea who wrote the story for this game but it’s extremely well done, and playing through it is like watching an entirely new version of the original Ghostbusters movie. It’s all there, just re-arranged and updated to be shown through the eyes of you, a new hire for the Ghostbusters being put through the ringer his first day on the job. It’s wonderful. The cast signed on to do the voices (brand new dialogue with lots of references to classic lines from the movie), t he unforgettable music is present throughout, and there are tons of recognizable landmarks and characters such as the library, old firehouse, Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, Slimer, Walter Peck, etc. As for the gameplay, it’s pretty much what you’d expect from a polished, third person AAA title. The controls are fluid and work well, catching ghosts is fun and sometimes difficult, and the camera is perfect. Characters can heal one another after they've fallen, so you don’t die too often, and regular cut-scenes and change in environments are plentiful so you won’t get bored very easily. You really can’t go wrong with the gameplay here if you even remotely like games in the third person perspective. So all-in-all if you’re a big fan of the Ghostbusters movies, then I’d easily recommend playing through this game for the story alone. It truly is worth it…alright, who brought the dog?

This game would be decent if it weren't such a horrible piece of trash. Which is a shame, because I could actually see myself enjoying 'Vanguard Princess' if it weren't for so many technical issues. For starters, the game says that it has 'full controller support' but when plugging in a 'Microsoft Xbox 360' controller, arguably the most popular controller used on PCs today, it doesn't read the left stick correctly, and it results in the cursor constantly strafing to the right, making the game unplayable. Strike one. Also, when putting this game into full screen resolution, the colors become incredibly distorted, forcing you to run the game in a much smaller window. Who the hell wants to do that? 'I didn't buy this nice big screen just to run games in windowed mode' is what I imagine many people have said out loud as a result of purchasing this game. It seems to me as if the makers of this video game aren't too good at making video games after-all. Pity, with so few fighting games on Steam, and this game having some similarities to one of my favorite fighting games of all time 'Marvel Vs Capcom 2', 'Vanguard Princess' is just a big let-down. Strike two. So finally, sick of messing around with the controller and trying to get it to work, I shut off the support, and mapped the keys using 'xPadder'. It works! Hooray! And...this game is pretty boring. The characters are all women, something I don't particularly enjoy, the combat isn't terrible, but grows old very quickly, there is no tutorial, there are limited attacks, the game is just bad. It's a shame I put so much effort, a few minutes, into trying to get this thing to run properly. Oh well, at least I got it for free. Which is more than I can say for some of you out there. Just know that whatever you do, for the love of god, don't get this game. Strike three, yer out!

For someone who isn't too familiar, or very good at fighting games, 'Injustice: Gods Among Us' was surprisingly easy for me to get the hang of once I battled a few opponents. Most fighting games I play just aren't that interesting to me, and that's mostly due to the fact that memorizing button combinations, and taking the time to find a player that I like isn't a journey that I'm willing to take, majority of the time. And it's that reason, and that reason alone why only a few fighting games such as 'Smash Bros, Power Stone' and few others really stand out to me as being highly memorable. But with 'Gods Among Us', I found myself landing combination after combination early on, almost as if the control scheme was tailored for button mashers, and unskilled fighters to catch on quickly, and it kept me interested and playing long enough to actually get halfway decent at the game. Now maybe all of that is just some stuff that I made up in my brain, or maybe it's not, but 'Injustice' is one of the few fighting games I have actually enjoyed in recent years. Another aspect of this game that I enjoyed way more than I thought I would, was the story. Most new age fighting games create some strangely flowing plot that barely makes sense to explain all of the fighting, and this game is no different, but it worked nonetheless. There's just something about an evil 'Superman' that really gets my blood boiling. If you're like me, and have a difficulty getting into most fighting games, but would like to, consider picking this one up.

I honestly have no idea what the hell is going on in 'Gearcrack Arena'. I've never been so confused by a video game in all of my life. Can you even call this a game? I don't know what this is, but I'm pretty sure it's not a game. From what I have gathered, you play as a solider of some sorts who is trying to escape wave after wave of angry robots who just so happen to resemble butt cheeks. And as the solider you must run around squeezing these robots so hard that they explode. There is no health bar, there are no instructions, there are no cut-scenes, there are no options to change settings, they don't tell you the controls, they don't tell you anything at all. There are four modes and they all seem to be the same and the gameplay gets repetitive after a single minute. If you can even call it gameplay. This is without a doubt the worst game that I have ever played. I want to curse the wretched bundle which brought this travesty into my steam library! It's almost as if a band had the bright idea to market their music in a new way, and went out and decided to make a game strictly for showcasing their music. Only they didn't have much talent in coding, and gave up after a week. I mean why else would this be available for a single dollar with the soundtrack included? It's clearly an advertising strategy. Listen guys, I can totally admire your drive to be successful in the music industry, and I think that it's really neat that you're thinking so far outside the box in terms of marketing. But Steam is meant for video games and software. It's not meant for low-grade terrible metal bands to introduce their equally terrible music to the world.

Not being a huge fan of 'point and click' games I decided to give 'Dream Machine' and chance one rainy afternoon when I was bored with the usual third or first person shooters, and was pleasantly surprised with my discovery. For starters, the artistic direction that was chosen for this game suits the tone of the story perfectly and does nothing but add to the overall creepiness factor of the characters and the setting. The game is also pretty challenging at times and really makes you think. I almost felt like a detective while playing. I also found it refreshing that the game was broken up into several different chapters, each entirely different than the one that preceded it. Overall, the stories here are pretty interesting for a few hours, and for five dollars I can recommend 'Dream Machine' to those who are at this page right now, interested in this game, considering a new addition to their Steam catalog.

Well, the single button combat system is very reminiscent of 'Super Smash Bros' even though it's nowhere near as complex, while the level design and character controls seem to have been taken directly from 'Super Meat Boy'. And while we're talking about it, if you thought that 'Super Meat Boy' was a difficult game, then look out for this one because it's much, much, much harder. Have you ever picked up a video game and instantly fell in love with it? I have, and growing up in the early 90's with popular consoles like the 'Super Nintendo' and the 'Sega Genesis' have given many platformers extremely nostalgic feelings for me. Then I got older and video games changed just as much as I did and when I came back to them many years later I found that they had turned into something that I didn't understand, appreciate, or recognize. Every game seemed to blend in with the ones around it, and I wasn't all that happy with the majority of games that I was playing. This is the game that changed that. 'Super Meat Boy' is easily one of the best games that I have ever played and rivals some of the greatest platformers of all time like 'Mario Bros', 'Castlevania', 'Mega Man', and so on and so forth. This game put 2D platforming, along with indie gaming back on the map for many people because everything about it is simply amazing. From the soundtrack, to the controls, to the level design, to the insanity of it all; 'Super Meat Boy' will keep you addicted until the very end. And just when you think you've mastered it all, you discover there are even harder versions of each and every level that you've already played. If you are at all into side-scrollers this is a must buy. Hell, this is a must buy even if you aren't.

"There it was, like a cheap bottle of bourbon at a discount liquor store, on sale and just begging for me to play it; I knew I was in for a long night." And indeed I was, because 'Max Payne 3' is one of the best stories that I've watched unfold in quite a while. Now I know what you're thinking, you're thinking that this game has far too many cut-scenes for anyone to find the story even remotely engrossing, that nobody buys a game to watch it - they buy it to play it, and I probably would have agreed with you early on in the story. But after around the third act, I stopped caring that the cut-scenes were constantly interrupting the gameplay, and sat back and began treating 'Max Payne 3' as a fantastic interactive movie, eagerly awaiting the next scene to move the story along. "All that is gold does not glitter, or at least that's what I was told before the world decided to stab me in the back and twist the knife." Another aspect that made this game extremely fun to watch is how pretty the graphics are, and how stylized the look feels while maintaining that gritty undertone that made the original 'Max Payne' so enjoyable. The action here is on par with what you would expect from a blockbuster movie, the writing is just as clever as the earlier 'Max Payne' games, and hearing Max speak that drunken philosophy of a man who has it all figured out but just doesn't care is great to hear again. The entire game just feels very reminiscent of the earlier releases, while managing to feel fresh and new at the same time. "They say it's the small things that make life worth living, funny, I guess I never got that memo." I love how 'Max Payne' takes out some of the most annoying aspects of games these days. Like having to press a button to climb a ladder, or open a door, or interact with anything. Or how Max automatically reloads his gun or begins to walk just before a cut-scene. It's tiny details like this that made this game especially enjoyable for me to play through. Aside from that 'Max Payne 3' stays fairly true to the original, and I know some people really hated the addition of cover, but for me, it still feels like the 'Max Payne' that I grew up loving. If you were a fan of the Max Payne of old, you're sure to like the new and improved one as well. "It was over faster than it began, like an hour with a harlot, the time had come to finish."

Growing up I played this game constantly. At home. At friend's houses. Anywhere that I could. We would even have LAN death-matches in school with our 40 year old comp-sci teacher leading the way, and for a few years it seemed as if nobody could get enough of this game. It had it all. It was games like 'Doom' and 'Wolfenstein' only a hundred times better; the graphics were amazing, the controls were perfect, it had boobies, it had guns, it had blood, it was the best thing my fragile young eyes had ever seen, and like I said, nobody could get enough of it. This of course was all in the mid 90's when first person shooters were just starting to pick up some real steam, and there's no doubt that this game was partially responsible. Needless to say this game offers some heavy nostalgia for me personally, but even though I have an undying love for it, 'Duke 3D' is still one of the best games that I have ever played. It just nails everything so perfectly and going back to it for the first time in almost two decades felt just as fresh as the first time that I played it. This game still holds up even by today's standards, and graphics aside, modern day shooters haven't really changed all that much since the release of this game. In fact, I would argue that games today are actually much easier than 'Duke 3D'. The puzzle elements that are evident here are something that is missing from most shooters today, and it's refreshing to play a game that doesn't hold your hand the whole way through. 'Duke 3D' pushed a lot of boundaries, and before parents were raging against 'Grand Theft Auto' it was Duke that was taking most of the flack. Whether you loved it or hated it, 'Duke Nukem' did a lot of great things for gaming in general, and if there were a 'Video Game Hall of Fame' this one would surely have a decently sized display inside of it. If you've never experienced this game and are into the shooter genre you should definitely pick this one up. It's well worth the price, and offers hours upon hours of boob-grabbing, mind-melting entertainment. It's no wonder 'Duke Nukem Forever' wasn't nearly as good as this game was; not many are. Shake it, baby!

What a great little mouse based reflex game that takes us back to the earlier days of browser based gaming with mechanics reminiscent of gems such as 'Curve Ball', 'Helicopter', and 'Snowball Fight'. 'Intake' is a fast paced, highly addictive, musically-driven score attack that tests your reflexes as you struggle to save a body from certain death as pills fall from the throat of it's seemingly unhappy owner. I'm not really sure why this person is trying to end their life, perhaps they recently lost their job, or maybe they're going through a nasty divorce, or maybe'Starbucks' was just out of their favorite blend of coffee; nevertheless, it's up to us to save them. The gameplay is extremely simple, which goes for most great games of this genre. Snap your mouse back and forth and destroy the falling pills with the coordinating colors before enough fall past you, and you die. The more pills you destroy in a row, the bigger the bonus, and the more rounds you get through, the more intense the gameplay becomes as the game throws combinations of "attacks" at you. 'Intake' takes the things that made 'Tetris' memorable and builds upon them, so you know it's good. And combining these characteristics along with the fast-paced soundtrack and upgrade system makes this game well worth the price.

This is the perfect game for clean freaks and the obsessive compulsive alike. They should probably look into using it as possible treatment for OCD and maybe even ADD patients. But I digress, I never thought in a million, billion, trillion years that I would play several hours of what is essentially just a cleaning simulator, but here we are in the year 2015 where people like 'PewDewPie' are popular, so I guess anything goes now. Like taking a level from 'Shadow Warrior' and having the poor janitor clean up the aftermath. Spoiler alert: it all works out for him in the end. If you manage to complete the game, that is. It's a test of will. Initially this game can be pretty frustrating to play. The learning curve is short, but the first ten or twenty minutes will most likely be very aggravating, at least for me they were. And this is mostly due to the fact that it's super easy to track blood literally anywhere. Oh! Don't step into those tracks of blood or you'll create new fresh tracks. Oh! Don' t smack that severed head into anything or you'll leave a brand new blood splatter all over it. Oh! Don't knock over those incredibly not sturdy disposal units or you'll reek havoc on the squeaky clean floor. Seriously, why are they so easy to spill over, even when they're full?!

The first two 'BioShock' games are some of the greatest first person shooters to ever get released. And this game is good too, in it's own right, but it's just not on the same level as those first two games. For starters, 'Infinite' comes off as an open world sandbox, but it felt much more on rails, as if I were being lead around on a leash the entire time. Most sandbox games have you running around, completing quests for many different people for many different reasons; traveling from town to town discovering new quests, friends, and other challenges along the way; but 'Infinite' has you following around the same person the entire time, making it feel much more restricted than it should, causing the entire world to just feel...smaller. I actually held off playing 'Infinite' for several months because I thought it would be a much more daunting experience than it turned out to be. I don't know, the earlier 'BioShock' games just felt much more involved than this one did; as if many of the things that made the other games great have since been removed in order to make the game easier and more accessible or something. But what the hell do I know? I'm not very good at reviewing video games anyway. All I know is that this game felt much simpler, and went by much more quickly than I felt that it should have. And maybe that's just because I enjoyed it, but the game just isn't all that difficult, and I can only remember one or two times that I actually felt challenged while playing. But aside from the overall simplified feeling that I got when comparing this game to the earlier ones, I still really enjoyed playing through 'Infinite'. For starters, the atmosphere is easily one of the most beautiful that I've ever seen and while I was there I felt completely immersed in it while watching the story unfold, which plays out like a blockbuster motion picture I might add. The music is great, just like in the earlier games and fits the overall tone perfectly, the cut-scenes were well timed and didn't get boring, the game is optimized extremely well, making it great for users with lower end machines, which is always a plus, and I enjoyed the humor. Sure it's not as good as the earlier 'BioShock' games, but it's still worth playing through if you can get 'Infinite' for a few bucks. It's got a decently compelling storyline, the combat mechanics, although somewhat generic are still fun to play with, and if you're in the market for a newer AAA shooter, this game is often on sale, which isn't half bad either. But other than that, while it was satisfying to play through once, 'Infinite' is overall a forgettable and generic shooter that just didn't live up to the hype and I don't plan on returning to it anytime soon, if ever.

The best aspect of 'Counterstrike' is how with each new release, the gameplay remains the same as it was back when everyone was still playing on dial up connections and crappy white and beige CRT monitors, while still offering modern day graphics and updated game engines. Now, having a game where the core gameplay never changes might actually sound like a terrible thing for games to do these days, like with the 'Call of Duty' franchise for instance, but with 'Counterstrike' it's exactly what you want. It's not that the developers are lazy or no longer posses the skills to be creative, it's the fact that this game is so loved, so already perfect, that anything other than aesthetic updates would be a crime against humanity. Other than that, what else is there to really say about 'Counterstrike' that hasn't already been said? It's the game that got millions of 90's kids to harass their parents for faster modems and better video cards. It's the game that kept myself and many of my friends up over countless nights all because the server '24/7 Militia' was a real thing that existed. It's the game that coined the term 'spray and pray'. It's the game that played perfectly fine on 56K modems way before cable internet even existed. You get the idea. Counterstrike is great and if you haven't played it yet, you probably should. I for one know that I'll never get the sound of 'Counter Terrorists' and 'Terrorists Win' out of my mind, and I'm totally okay with that.

I bet you're thinking that this game looks pretty damn terrible, aren't you? Well I'm here to tell you that this game is not terrible. In fact, this game is actually quite enjoyable. Okay, now that I've gotten that out of the way, I'm not really sure why I enjoyed playing this game as much as I did. It's very similar to 'Sonic the Hedgehog', a series I am not that fond of, but with much more to offer, at least in my mind. There's just something about collecting items in this game that feels ****. Is something bothering you? Forget wasting hundreds, even thousands of dollars talking to some lady that makes you lay down when you do so, and simply run around a few levels of 'Superfrog HD' collecting the bananas and coins. It's a lot cheaper and just as effective, I promise. That's right, in only a few short minutes you'll watch all of your troubles and worries melt away as you jump up and down, left to right, side to side; collecting that delicious fruit; ahhhhhh, I feel like I'm floating on a soft cloud already. All jokes aside though, 'Superfrog HD' looks wonderful and the music isn't half bad either. The levels are long and well designed, and even though the game looks incredibly easy, some of the maps will definitely get on your last nerve as you try and maneuver your way through them. I assume a lot of people still enjoy this game for nostalgic reasons, even though some say that it's boring, but even if you weren't a fan of the original, this game can definitely still be entertaining.

This game is nowhere near as bad as the majority of reviews on here make it out to be, and I feel like some of the negativity is coming from people who simply just don't like this type of game. Call it lazy, call is uninspired, but a lot of people grew up on games like this one, and sometimes it's just nice to play something that doesn't have you wanting to tear your hair out every ten minutes. Does that mean this game is great? No. But it's really not that bad. As casual as games come, 'Canyon Capers' is a simple 2D side-scrolling item collecting game, and not a tough as nails super precise platformer. Which I'm sure some people thought that it might be before purchasing it, or deciding to get it in a bundle. Sure it doesn't have the best sound effects, or music, or level design, or art style, or anything really. But you know what? I've played a ton of games that were much worse than this one, and at least 'Canyon Capers' does what it sets out to do; give players the ability to collect coins, fruits, and gems! Sure, this game is extremely basic, as is the level design and overall challenge, but that's kind of what these games are all about. So if you're in the mood to just relax and waste a few minutes, then this game can be an enjoyable experience. Oh yeah, and I'm pretty sure that this game is for children, ya know, kids. But I suppose all of you people who gave this game a negative review hate on 'Reader Rabbit' too, or maybe you thought the movie 'Muppets in Space' was too "juvenile"; well to hell with all of you I say! Now everyone; into the canyon!

This game was an overall satisfying experience for me and I would most likely recommend it to fans of platformers in general, but in the long run, 'DuckTales: Remastered' just doesn't compare to the original. I'm not sure what it is, but something was lost in the translation; it just doesn't have the same charm that the original game had for the NES. But without comparing this game to the original, it's still an enjoyable experience. But how could I not compare this to the original? It's arguably one of the greatest games for the original Nintendo console, and tons of people, myself included, hold it near and dear to their hearts. So it's nearly impossible not to compare this 'updated' version to the original game that came out almost three decades ago. One of the biggest reasons this game doesn't have the same charm as the original, at least for me, is the soundtrack. I know some people think they did a great job with it, and maybe they did, but most of the new versions of these beloved songs are just awful, and at times barely even recognizable. I would have been much happier with this game if they had just re-released the same game with the same music and just updated the textures, but whatever, it's not the worst thing ever. And I'm not sure if they went ahead and made some of these levels longer, but the levels feel longer, and sometimes for no reason at all other than to extend the time of play. And lastly, the cut-scenes; these initially made me dislike the game greatly as there are far too many of them, but once you realize you can skip them, they're not so bad. Overall, this game is good, but it could have been much better. If you've never played the original than you will probably like it more than I did. It's got everything you want in a solid title; the controls are tight, the graphics are crisp and look great in high resolution, it works perfectly with a controller, and the voice acting is very well done.

I'm not gonna take you back to the past to play some funky games that **** gas. But one thing is for certain, I'd rather play this game than have a buffalo take a diarrhea dump in my ear. And I'd rather play this game over having to eat the rotten butt-hole of a road-killed skunk and then down it with a beer. Does this game make me the angriest gamer you've ever heard? Well no. Am I an angry Steam nerd? No! Because this is just a great platformer created for the sole purpose of pissing off James Rolfe, better known as the 'Angry Video Game Nerd'. And if you happen to be a big fan of the nerd, like myself, then this game is a must play. Taking everything the nerd has complained about over the years, one fan decided to take all of his negativity and transform it into an entertaining and often frustrating platformer. Insulting you with a barrage of disparaging remarks each time you die, I found myself getting just as angry at this game as the nerd does to the games in his videos, which surprisingly made the experience even more enjoyable to me on some sadistic level. Other than that though, there really aren't any negative things for me to say about this game. It's addicting, the controls work perfectly with a controller, the music is great, there's plenty of levels and bosses, it's funny, it's entertaining, it's great. A lot of people think 'Fallout 3' is better than 'New Vegas', but I happen to disagree with this sentiment. To me 'Fallout 3' felt very unbalanced in terms of combat, and maybe I was just terrible at it, but enemies were way too difficult to kill at the beginning of the campaign, and it kept me from putting more than a few hours into it my first time around. On the other hand, playing 'New Vegas' for the first time felt much more inviting in terms of the overall pace of the story, and I ended up putting almost thirty hours into it. Take that however you'd like, but my experience with 'New Vegas' was much more enjoyable than my time spent with 'Fallout 3'. Now my overall feelings towards both of these games may be slightly biased as 'New Vegas' happened to be the first open world first person shooter that I sunk a significant amount of time into, but it just feels like a more polished, better game. This may also have something to do with the fantastic soundtrack that accompanies you along the way of the 'New Vegas' campaign. There's just something oddly entertaining about destroying robots while listening to songs from Dean Martin and the rest of the 'Rat Pack' that really puts me at ease. In conclusion, if you’re looking for a game that you can spend almost thirty hours on before completing then look no further than 'Fallout: New Vegas'. Everyone knows that the Fallout games are amazing and this installation of the series is no different. The environment is fascinating, the characters are interesting, and the missions never get stale. Easily one of the best open world shooters to date, you're a damn fool if you don't pick this one up as soon as possible to sink your metaphorical teeth into as well. Well, what are you still doing here?

This game could be much better. In fact, I had some fun with it until it became unplayable due to frame-rate issues. Not sure what that's all about, but if that never happened I would have put some more time into 'Trapped Dead'. The premise is every generic zombie movie you've ever seen, but the game could be decent if the developers fleshed out more of the ideas and if the many bugs were addressed. Simply put, there are just too many technical and non-technical issues with this game to recommend it to anyone for any price. What's wrong with 'Trapped Dead'? It basically feels like a beta release. The controls are terrible. The graphics are terrible. The sounds are terrible. There are frame-rate issues. The characters have no depth. The story is boring. There isn't enough player guidance. Everything just feels incomplete and in need of work. As if the developers got sick of working on it and decided to release it, hoping that nobody would notice. Treat this game like the zombies it attempts to portray and run as far and as fast away from it as you can. You have been warned.

I should mention that I had never heard of ‘Tex Murphy’ growing up in the 90’s. I guess the series was pretty popular though if they were able to get a Kickstarter to bring it back. Remember games that had cut scenes with actual people in them, almost like movies? Yeah, I had forgotten about them too. Having said all of that however, I still thoroughly enjoyed this game and would definitely recommend it to anyone who grew up in the 90’s playing FMV games. If you can get it for a low, low, oh-so-low price that is; I really can’t justify paying $20 for this game. Having said that, I really have no idea why I enjoyed this game. As I have already stated I had never heard of these games before a few weeks ago, so there really isn't any nostalgia there. The graphics are dated, the puzzles are tired and old, the atmosphere is dull and extremely basic, the story isn’t anything special, and the controls could be better. I mean sure, it's supposed to feel like those early 90’s PC games with live action, but this game is really pushing it with these graphics that look like they came straight out of 2006. But whatever, story and graphics aren’t everything that makes a game great. I mean who plays games for their stories? This game is also pretty damn hard, even on the ‘casual’ mode. So be prepared to ask for some guidance along the way by seeking the in-game itinerary for where to go and what to do. I mean, unless you don’t mind wandering around for hours, aimlessly looking for objects that are sometimes pretty hard to see. See? Even as I’m writing this I’m still questioning why the hell I loved this game so much. And I truly did love this game. The acting definitely helps with that too, as I found myself getting more and more engrossed in the cut-scenes, watching this story I started out not caring about, unfold before my very eyes. Todd Bridges, some guy from some show, even makes an appearance. So in closing…this game is extremely dated with graphics from a decade ago, needs some fiddling to work with a controller, has ridiculous HD cut-scenes with sometimes stupid characters, has some stupid puzzles, and is a blast from start to finish. Go get em’ Tex…that’s not a line from the game but I think it fits quite nicely.

Assuming it was just another 'Grand Theft Auto' clone, I grabbed 'Saints Row IV' while it was on sale and then proceeded to forget about it for months. Then one rainy day I decided to boot it up and was more than pleasantly surprised with what I discovered. Essentially the movies 'Independence Day' and 'The Matrix' bashed into one action packed escapade, this game is chock-full of witty dialogue, pop culture references, and explosions; lots of explosions. And for those of you who still think this is just another 'Grand Theft Auto' clone, I've got six words for you: you barely drive In this game. It's based much more on pedestrian missions as opposed to car driven ones. There, I said it and I'm glad that I got it off of my chest. The best part of the single player campaign in 'Saints Row 4' is how it never grows stale; constantly changing perspectives, situations, characters, and even genre, this game keeps you own your feet and never lets you down. In just a few minutes you'll go from platforming, to 2D side-scrolling beat em' up, to sitting in a turret blasting alien spaceships out of the sky. But the game doesn't stop there, it also adds in super powers to really make things fun and gives you the ability to jump as high as buildings, run faster than the speed of sound, shoot fire out of your palms, and basically any other awesome power you can think of; yep, this game has it all. I'm so glad that I finally gave 'Saints Row IV' a chance, because this is one of those games that you sit down to play for an hour and end up beating the whole damn thing. It instantly grabs you with it's balls to the wall attitude, tosses you up against that wall, and then proceeds to give you the thrill ride of a lifetime. The story doesn't take itself too seriously, the cut-scenes don't feel like a chore to watch, it's fast-paced, it's entertaining, it's got sex, it's got cars, it's got guns galore; it's basically the best action movie you've ever seen. Aliens have come to take over the planet, and it's up to the president of the United States to save the day. What else is new. Welcome to Earth.

Looking for a new way to spice up your music listening sessions? If you answered yes, then this is the game for you! Because 'Beat Hazard' is basically just a music visualizer with lives. And if you don't have enough lives to make it through the song, well, then you don't hear the end of that song; it's as simple as that. Finally something that makes listening to music more challenging! Ugh, we've seen this game a thousand times before, literally, there are a thousand other versions of this game out there already. Like 'Asteroids, Geometry Wars, Darius Twin, Giga Wing, 1943, LifeForce, Gradius, Raiden, Super ****, etc. You get the point, there are a lot of spaceship shooty games on the market. Sad to say however, 'Beat Hazard' adds nothing new to this already saturated genre other than allowing us to play along to our favorite songs. But we could already do that by listening to our favorite songs while playing better versions of this game with the sound off. It was a nice attempt but 'Beat Hazard' falls really flat, no pun intended. There is just too much going on visually, even when turning the effects down half-way, and sometimes it's much too difficult to distinguish from what will and will not hurt you as debris flies all about. Not to mention the graphics look very cheap, especially the spaceship, and with a game with so many visual effects, it seriously hinders the experience, at least for me. Overall there is still some fun to be had here, but pick 'Beat Hazard' up on sale, because ten bucks is just too much to pay for this generic pile of visual ****. The 'Survival Mode' is the one aspect that may keep you coming back, but other than that, avoid this game for something better like one of the titles mentioned above, because honestly, the one thing this game promises to do; power itself with your music, it doesn't even do very well.

If growing up you were a fan of 'Duke Nukem **** boobies, then you'll love... erruhh... should... erruhh... might enjoy this game. Or maybe you won't, I mean who can really tell with this one. Over however long in development, with countless engine updates, and one or a million developer changes, I still to this day, have no idea why so many knuckleheads held this game to such high standards. I suppose it was their undying love and fond memories for the Duke Nukem of the 90's, but still, how good could this game have been when it was passed around more times than some lame joke about a girl who is very promiscuous? Actually...pretty damn good, if you ask me! This game was destined to fail ever since year five in development, so it really doesn't matter now, but like I said, if you were a fan of the original 'Duke 3D' game, then this game should be pretty enjoyable for you. Or maybe it won't be, who cares, either way get f'd and buy it cheap. But still, 'Forever' manages to be more imaginative than 75% of new shooters out there today and maintains some of the humor and feel of gameplay from the original. The storyline is the same 'save the world from the aliens' but what else did you expect, and each map feels fresh and fun to play through each and every time, with small puzzles and challenges along the way. Overall, this is a game most people have most likely already forgotten about, but it's still incredibly fun if you ask me. And even though it's probably not the game that the developers originally set out to make, I'm still thankful to have been able to play this version. So pick this one up for a few bucks during the next sale if you're a fan of Duke Nukem or shooters in general. Because 'Forever' is a pleasant change from the mundane, everyday shooters that most people play day in and day out.

Being a huge fan of water in video games, this game immediately appealed to me. Water can be quite impressive when rendered correctly and seeing how new games handle it always seems to interest me; something that began ever since I first laid eyes on the 'Nintendo 64' version of 'Wave Race'. Then I came to realize that the 'Depth Hunter' series were originally mobile games with micro-transactions up the wazoo and I was immediately turned off. Surprisingly enough however, this game is actually quite enjoyable if you're in the mood for a serene experience with a minimal challenge, and don't worry, none of those pesky micro-transactions made their way into the PC version, either. The atmospheres in 'Depth Hunter 2' are gorgeous, the music is relaxing, the game works with a gamepad, and the controls and character animations are quite realistic in feel. There are five areas to hunt within and challenges range from snapping photographs of creatures and shipwreck, to hunting fish and collecting treasure at the bottom of the ocean. An XP system is in place as well, although I'm not quite sure what it does, but it's always nice to see a character leveling up. Purchases can also be made to upgrade equipment, such as a larger USB stick to hold more pictures, a longer spear, bigger oxygen tank, etc. So there is some depth to the game, although minimal, no pun intended. The two downsides to this game are the fact that the campaign is short and can be beaten in a few hours, and the lack of any story whatsoever. Personally, the lack of story didn't bother me at all though, as I don't really see how the game would benefit from one. In conclusion, I can definitely see why people don't like this game, but for me, sometimes it's fun to just turn on a game and admire the atmosphere. So if you're looking for something with some action or a challenge, look elsewhere. The price-tag is a bit high, so I would wait until this game goes on sale to pick it up, but other than that 'Depth Hunter 2' is quite enjoyable after a long day with a nice cold beer.

Even though I enjoyed playing this game for a few hours, I still can't recommend that anyone pay full price for it. That being said; I've never enjoyed a game with so many bugs in it before, but I guess there's a first time for everything. And when I say that this game is buggy, I'm talking like, walking naked, covered head-to-toe in maple syrup through the rainforest on the hottest day of the year buggy. For starters, the drivers you hire should all be in prison because they're menaces to society. Do not leave these people alone for even one minute because none of their actions make sense and they will surely kill someone. "Hey I'm a single block from that passenger, let me not pick them up and instead drive around in circles a few times before heading off into the opposite direction." I imagine this is what's going through the drivers heads the entire time because I have never seen such horrible AI in all of my life. Not only that, but watching over some of your drivers for a few minutes, and you'll surely notice how they barely follow any rules of the road at all. Red light? Let's run that. Speed limit? Let's go over that. I know some taxi drivers are drunk on the job, but this is just ridiculous. For a better experience just steer clear of hiring extra drivers entirely. Like I said, I had some fun playing this game, but then again I got it for like a dollar or two in one of those fancy pants bundles of games for poor people. Aside from that, the graphics are dated and very not good, there is no support for gamepads, the music is boring and also not good, and there is only one view while driving. Pick it up for a few bucks maybe, but for full price pass this one up like the hired drivers in this game often do to potential passengers. Yeah, that's right, I just made a joke about under performing virtual taxi drivers.

As like most people, I was initially drawn to 'Dead Island' because of it's mind-grabbing cinematic teaser trailer. However, unlike most people, when the game was actually released I wasn't disappointed in the least. And that's mostly due to the fact that 'Dead Island' has one of the most gorgeous and engrossing atmosphere's that I have ever seen in a video game. There's just something about a zombie infested paradise that really does it for me and I can't get enough of it. The island of Hanoi truly is a vast and comprehensive environment that is worth exploring over and over again. Aside from how wonderful the environment is, the gameplay is also extremely fun and balanced. Bashing zombies heads in with pipes, wrenches, paddles, and whatever else you can find never grows old, and the lack of immediate firearms is surprisingly refreshing. In fact, one of the best aspects of this game is how long it actually takes to get some guns. At first I admit I was wondering how long it would take to get them, but when I finally did, I realized I had way more fun using just about anything else. Not to mention you can modify preexisting weapons to make them more powerful, such as adding barbed wire to bats, and so on and so forth. As for the story in 'Dead Island' it's nothing special and is pretty much what you would expect from a modern horror movie. A group of unlikely people are forced to work together as they take on zombie hordes and battle with internal conflict. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The dialog is minimal, which I found to be a good thing, and the progression makes about as much sense as it should. All-in-all the story does a fine job of moving the game forward, and considering most people aren't playing for the story, it's nothing to complain about. When it comes down to it, 'Dead Island' offers a gorgeous atmosphere, solid combat with a wide variety of weapons, tons off quests to get side-tracked with, a soundtrack that sets the tone perfectly, an acceptable storyline with acceptable characters, and an overall balanced XP system. Pick this one up if you're a fan of zombies, first person shooters, exotic island madness, and cheesy horror movies. And even if you're not a fan of any of those things, I mean, what's wrong with you? Not one of those things appeals to you? Are you sure you're okay? You haven't been...bitten...have you...!?!?!?!?!

Dead Island: Riptide

'Riptide' is an excellent follow up to the original 'Dead Island' game, and even though it's essentially the same thing with a continued storyline, it was just as much fun playing through as the original. The change in atmosphere, the more cinematic cut-scenes, added waterboats, and new enemies are great additions and make 'Riptide' worth experiencing even if you think you know what the game already has to offer. One of the best parts about this series is how long it takes to actually get some god damn firearms. I'm sure that's a huge turn-off for some people, but I love clawing my way through horde after horde with just my bare hands and some pipes to get to the good stuff. 'Riptide' has more of a focus on firearms than 'Dead Island', but the grinding to find them isn't lost at all. 'Riptide' is also far less punishing when it comes to how quickly your weapons break apart. So there's always that. As for the story, it's pretty much what you'd expect, cheesy dialogue from a group of misfit characters trying to escape the island to save their lives, and he music is better than the first and feels like it would be right at home in an 80's slasher flick. There's also plenty to do; mostly find this, find that, go here, go there, save him, save her, but despite the repetition in quests, it never felt like I was doing the same thing over and over again. 'Riptide' is definitely worth picking up during the next sale.

Tiny & Big: Grandpa's Leftovers

'Tiny & Big' is a wonderfully original platformer, despite the fact that it takes more time to cook a Thanksgiving turkey than it does to complete the game. Yes, this game is very short and can be beaten in just a few hours. But should that take away from the overall experience? No! The price maybe...actually definitely the price, but certainly not the experience. The artistic style is simple, beautiful and gives off a nice 'Playstation 2 in High Definition' feel to it, and the soundtrack is very reminiscent of 'LittleBigPlanet'; two of the most refreshing aspects of the game. And I don't know about you, but I needs me some good songs when I be platforming. The idea of finding songs is also a great way of encouraging exploration; something most newer games still don't get right. There is no voice acting, only grunts and groans like in the early 'LEGO' games, but this only adds to the overall retro feel of the game. And the whole 'cut-anything-you-want-to-get-to-where-you-need-to-go' thing also reminded me of the original 'Red Faction' game; which is a very good thing. So overall, for a game where you search for lost pants, it's definitely worth playing through, if only once. Fans of older platformers will definitely appreciate this one as well as there are several aspects from games long forgotten.

Can't get enough of that sweet 'Half Life' action? Yeah, I understand. With everyone patiently awaiting the arrival of the highly sought after 'Half Life 3', some of us are forced to take more drastic measures in getting our 'Half Life' fix. We're forced to replay the original 'Half Life' games, yep all three of them, even 'Opposing Force'. We're forced to replay 'Half Life 2', yep every episode, and eventually, when there's nothing 'Half Life' related left to play, we must play through this early tech demo of a removed section of 'Half Life 2' redesigned to showcase Valve's HDR lighting. But in all seriousness, 'Lost Coast' is a twenty minute demo where you basically walk around admiring the world's surroundings. And when I say admiring, I mean admiring. Seriously, I must have taken in the scenery for over an hour while walking through this demo. And I especially loved the area with the staircase where you get to see Valve's fancy new lighting software and how it mimics what the eye sees in real life. It really is quite impressive, and still is, seeing as how I played through this demo in 2015; 10 years after it's initial release. You also get the chance to fight some bad guys, solve a very simplistic puzzle that honestly took me way too long to solve, and shoot down a black helicopter (yeah, those black helicopters) with a rocket launcher. The real reason however to play through this demo is to get a chance to hear from the developers themselves with the added in commentary. Aside from that it's pretty much everything you'd expect to see while playing 'Half Life 2'.

Disclaimer: The author of this review does not condone nor advocate the abuse of virtual ghosts. During no time over the course of this review were virtual ghosts hurt or abused in any way. If someone you know is abusing ghosts, speak up and say something. It's never too late. And now, onto the review... If you're a living, breathing, actual human being over the age of ten, then most likely you've played 'Pac-Man' at one time or another. Growing up I would play at local arcades and pizzerias whenever I got the chance, but I never really cared all that much about the game. That is until I picked this one up during the 2014 Summer Sale. Now all I have to say is that 'Pac-Man' is highly addictive! Sure, the levels all look relatively similar, and all you're really doing is running around collecting dots and eating frantic ghosts, but as I said before; this game is insanely addictive. And if you're thinking to yourself that you've already seen everything 'Pac-Man' has to offer, then think again. Because this is not the same game that came out all those decades ago. That's right, 'Pac-Man' has been updated with new rules, game modes, stimulating colors, and best of all: competitive online score keeping. So now you and your friends can post your high scores for all to enjoy! But seriously, if you aren't familiar with 'Pac-Man', consider picking this one up. You really can't beat it.

I never thought I'd see the day where I wanted to play a game that revolved around cleaning up dust particles, but nevertheless, here we are. They say never judge a book by it's cover. Well, never judge a video game by it's screenshots. For this game appeared to have it all, but managed to fall short. Let me start out by saying that I loved the art style though, along with the soundtrack. In fact, the soundtrack is probably the best part about 'Dustforce' and is exactly what you want in a platformer. As for the controls, they are nowhere near as bad as some of the people on here make them out to be, and personally I found them to be quite good. The only thing that stinks is how they make you assign the controller buttons yourself, as opposed to just having them preset for you. I wouldn't even dream of using a keyboard to play this game. As you may already know, this game was made with speedrunning in mind. Speedrunning is something I enjoy watching, but not performing, and had I known that beforehand, I would have skipped this game entirely. I mean, who makes a game specifically tailored for speedruns? Getting to the end of a level as quickly as possible? Where's the fun in that? No, I like to take my time, look around, really take in my surroundings. And besides, isn't the whole fun in speedrunning, coming up with the fastest method on your own? It just doesn't make much sense if you ask me. Aside from that, there's pretty much nothing else to do in this game but run from door to door playing level after level for the best time. No bosses, no enemies, just jumping from one platform to another, climbing wall after wall, sweeping up that dirty dust. There just doesn't feel like much of a reason to continue playing 'Dustforce' after an hour or two, unless you care about posting the highest scores for all to see. Which is basically where 99% of the incentive to continue playing comes from; the highest possible score. On the other hand, I can definitely see how people enjoy playing this game. Like I said, the soundtrack is great, the art style although simplistic, works quite well, and the controls are pretty good.

This game could not be more appropriately titled. Rampage you say? You're damn right it is and I couldn't be more happy about it. To picture it, imagine a mashup of your favorite 8-bit video games from the 80's with some early 'Grand Theft Auto' thrown in for good measure. Which is totally awesome if you ask me, and makes for one of the best retro gaming experiences of all time; in my opinion, of course. Playing through this game, you're sure to pick up on various themes and obvious and also obscure references to old Nintendo classics such as levels taken directly from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (that damn water level, for instance), sounds from the Mega Man series, and the track design from one of the best racing games of all time: Rad Racer, to name a few. The plot is also a mash-up of sorts as it's basically taken directly from 'Back to the Future' with sprinkles of 'Ghostbusters' and other popular 80's movies as well. Can you imagine, both 'Ghostbusters' and 'Back to the Future' in the same game? It doesn't get much better than that, folks. Actually, now that I think more about it, this game is just one big barrage of nonstop old-school references to video games and movies from the 80's. But as I said, there's nothing wrong with a little nostalgia. And if you grew up playing games like 'Link to the Past', 'Mario Bros', or any of those fantastic early NES titles, then this game will make you feel like a kid again; in a good way. You know, like having no responsibilities other than to wipe your own butt after using the bathroom, or brushing your teeth before bed, or doing your homework the night before, or...hell, just pick this game up already. You will not be disappointed. And even if you are, what did you expect from a kid?

I seriously hate the damn rockets in this damn game! They're always getting in my damn way when I'm trying to get to a damn checkpoint! I mean seriously, why do there have to be so many rockets? You'd think okay, one, two, maybe even three **** not like, more rockets than that! Anyway, aside from those minor annoyances, 'Groove City' is still a fun platformer that is worth playing through to the end. But still, those damn rockets, I hate them so much! I go to jump onto that platform over there and boom, hit by a rocket. What a shocker! Granted, this game is incredibly short; thirteen levels to be precise, but the journey is still worth taking. For a low low price, that is. I mean honestly, you can beat this game in about an hour. Maybe even less if it weren't for those damn flying air missiles. Aside from the rockets though, with the great soundtrack, the 'pope has a big ****' jokes, and the tight controls, this is a fantastic little platformer to lose your hair from due to rocket anxiety. Seriously, this game has some of the most obnoxious jumps that you will encounter on any platformer ever, so be warned. And let's not forget about those damn rockets either.

The first thing I will say about 'American Nightmare' is that this game is extremely short and can be beaten in a few hours. Which I imagine isn't what you were hoping to hear. However, if you're a huge fan of the 'Alan Wake' series, much like myself, then 'American Nightmare' is definitely worth picking up during it's next sale. Why wait until it's next sale you might ask? Well, because this game really doesn't offer anything that the original didn't. The story-line is nothing special and the game is told through narrations that feel a little too close to old episodes of 'Twilight Zone' mixed in with what appear to be live action cut-scenes. Not that there's anything wrong with that. From what I could gather, you are fighting an evil version of yourself, or something. Like I said, the story isn't anything special. In fact, the best thing this game offers is one more chance to step into Alan Wake's world. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I mean, hey, if you like shining flashlights at spooky demons and then blasting them with shotguns and other weapons, then this game is without a doubt for you. And if you don't, then maybe you should go play something less frightening. And don't forget your flashlight.

This game is entirely free and that's a wonderful thing, because it's definitely worth a few bucks. And besides, who doesn't love something for nothing? I know that I do! I mean, free stuff is awesome. But I **** first thing you may or may not notice about this fantastic little platformer, depending on the year you were born, is the fact that it looks and feels exactly like an old-school classic NES title from that colorful decade: the 80's. The 1980's, not the 1880's, of course. That may be the first strike against this game to some of you, but for me this game feels just as reminiscent as those classics I sunk so many hours of my young life into way back when my mother was still picking out my clothing for the day. This game is also surprisingly challenging despite the fact that it looks rather easy. There's also no music, extremely limited sound effects, and the only action your character has is to jump. But despite all of this the game still works extremely well as a whole. And for these reasons and these reasons alone, I feel compelled to yell at you to get out there and try this game. You don't even have to wait until the next big sale because did I mention earlier that it's entirely free?

Growing up I was a huge fan of 'Mario Kart'; both the Super Nintendo version and 'Mario Kart 64' as well. Then 'Diddy Kong Racing' came out and it was the greatest thing to ever happen to cart racers. Then Nintendo put out 'Double Dash', and it was the greatest thing to ever happen to cart racers. Then 'Mario Kart' came out for the Wii and needless to say, it wasn't very good. Then this game came out and all was well again in the land of cart racers. This is without a doubt, one of the best cart racing games to ever have been released. In fact, it's so good that I'm willing to overlook the fact that it's pretty much a complete rip-off of both 'Diddy Kong Racing' and 'Double Dash'. But that's probably what I like most about it. Really though, this game has everything you would want in a cart racing game and more. Various modes: such as 'destroy the tank', 'pass the traffic', and 'boost to the finish line' assure that you'll never get bored. Tons of tracks: 21 to be precise (that's old enough to legally consume alcohol!), a boatload of playable characters, tons of secrets, precision steering, and shortcuts galore! What else could you ask for?

I got this game in one of those fancy pants bundles of games for a nickel. And I'm not going to lie, I expected it to be a pretty terrible game. I mean it came along with like six other no-name games for less than $3; how good could it be? I don't know why I even bought that bundle now that I think about it, I was probably drunk or something. However, after playing 'Bus Driver' for a few hours I can safely admit that this is one of the best simulation games that I have ever played. And even though it is truly a simulation game it also feels like an arcade game at the same time. But that probably has something to do with the look and the feel of the game. Just think 'Crazy Taxi' with a bus and some rules. Now I know that rules don't sound like the most fun thing ever, but the best part of this game is, you guessed it, following the rules. Don't forget to use your turn signal, don't rattle the passengers too much or they'll leave, don't brake too often, don't brake too little, etc. You can see where I'm going with this. Another great aspect of this game is how true-to-bus the steering is, making it a pretty difficult game at times. So if you've ever wondered what the life of a bus driver was like, grab this game while you can. And if you really want to make this game realistic, have a few drinks before picking up the controller! Happy driving.

First things first: this is one of the funniest games that you will ever play. And here's why; the narrator is absolutely out of his mind, the plot consists of cats who have somehow taken prisoners, and you get the opportunity to change your character's face and color each and every time that you play. Now if that doesn't make you want this game then you should have your head checked immediately, because something just ain't right up there. Aside from the hilarious lines and the evil evil kitties, this game is a surprisingly fun platformer that will keep you entertained until the very end. The levels aren't long, but can get extremely frustrating from time to time, especially if you're trying to collect every gem. And even though there aren't any "bosses" in the game, the last level of every floor is timed, and can be pretty difficult to get through. All-in-all, if you're looking for a new platformer to sink your teeth in to, consider picking this game up as it's one of the best platformers on Steam. And if you don't, then you'd better watch your back, because the cats are surely coming for you. Oh yeah, and did I mention that the soundtrack is totally awesome? Because it is. And anyone who knows their platformers knows how incredibly important a killer soundtrack can be. What are you still doing here? Go! Now! Get this game!
