Hack, Slash, Loot7
Aug 4, 2012
Hack Slash Loot is a good dungeon crawler, but nothing else. A fine time waster, but it fails to provide a particularly deep experience. Still, it's worth the small price tag and nearly every should be able to get a kick out of it.

Q.U.B.E.8
Aug 4, 2012
This game gets compared to Portal, and for good reason. Player is placed in rooms with puzzles and expected to solve it. However, the comparison ends there. Q.U.B.E. has very little charm compared to Portal. Actually... It doesn't have any charm at all. However, the gameplay is very, very good and is what makes the game worth buying. So, don't go into this expecting the next Portal, as you WILL end up disappointed. However, if you go in expecting a fun puzzler, you'll have an excellent time.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Dawnguard8
Aug 4, 2012
If, like me, you had hundreds of hours in Skyrim and would like more of the same, Dawnguard is for you. However, if you only enjoyed the game a small or medium amount, you might want to wait for a price drop or just not buy it at all. In other words, Dawnguard is more of the same.

The Binding of Isaac: The Wrath of the Lamb10
May 28, 2012
If you loved The Binding of Isaac, don't even hesitate before buying this. It adds more of everything, and is especially great for those that already 100% cleared the game. It is a tad buggy, but not enough to ruin the experience.

Snuggle Truck4
Apr 10, 2012
It's basically Happy Wheels, minus the gore and it isn't free. It's about as unapealing as this description makes it sound. Although A SLIM AMOUNT of iOS games are worthy of seeing a PC release, this one is not. Really, what secured the success of the iOS version was that you only had to pay for premium content (customizables) and the aforementioned Happy Wheels is not available on the iOS. However, the PC has none of those things going for it. Even if you're looking for a game for your kids, you could do better. (Author's Note: Happy Wheels is not suitable for children; do not regard it as a substitute for this game).

Cave Story Plus5
Mar 3, 2012
Cave Story was one of my favorite games of all time. This, however, is an insult. The original Cave Story is free and provided a complete experience. This version adds BARELY anything new to the game, and what it does add is mostly garbage. A graphical overhaul that does absolutely nothing to help the experience and basically attempts to remove the nostalgia factor the original had, as well as a new soundtrack that nearly made me quit the game immediately. There ARE options to switch back to the old graphics and soundtrack, but at that point you'd be removing almost all of what makes this "Plus". I should also mention that whereas the translation work done in the most popular English translation patch is great, the translation here feels like it was made by a bunch of 6th graders. Not in the sense that it is poorly translated, but the dialogue just seems stale. I would have GLADLY payed for the original. However, since the original is free and has been for years, it really feels greedy to make me pay money for a version with inferior music and uselessly refined graphics. Just go download the freeware version and a translation patch, you'll have the same experience for free.

Pineapple Smash Crew10
Feb 5, 2012
This game is very, VERY good. It is one of the best top-down shooters I have ever played. The game's core mechanics involves grenades. When you level up via collecting experience cubes found in boxes, you get to choose between two random grenades. Each time you play through and each time you level up, your choices for grenades will be different. The mechanic for grenades involves throwing it, then detonating it afterwards. Some grenades require you to aim them, others might give you an advantage instead of harming the enemy, etc. Although beating the game takes only a couple of hours, the fact that all levels are randomly generated adds to the replayability. Each time you beat a level, you get to pick from a set of 3-5 other levels. You can pick only the easiest levels to breeze through or only the hardest for a challenge. If one of your mercenaries dies, you get a new, lower level merc at the end. The game punishes you by losing not by completely ending the game, but by making it harder to progress. On the level where that merc died, you will lose one grenade slot as well as the firepower he provided. Furthermore, your new merc will start at level 0, making him weak and therefore more likely to die. It is also worth mentioning that not only is this game made by a single person (alias: RickMakeGame) but it is also his debut game in the indie setting. The soundtrack is also amazing. All in all, since it's only 9.99$ on Steam, I highly recommend this game.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 19

It's the sequel we've all been waiting for. SEGA, kudos to you. You have done well. Basically, if you liked Sonic 1, 2 and 3, then get this game. If you love platformers, get this game. All in all, well worth the 10$ price tag.

Blocks That Matter9
Jan 9, 2012
Blocks That Matter is an excellent game, inspired by the two kings of block-based games: Alexey (the creator of Tetris) and Markus (the creator of Minecraft). The plot is as follows: Alexey and Markus are working on a secret project: a small robot capable of digging blocks. However, when they said "secret project", most people assumed it was a game. When no game is released, an angry fan sends some of his men to kidnap the game developpers so they can finish their game sooner. The problem: they have no game, just a robot. They decide to send their robot out to help them, however, the robot is not even in alpha. Thus, the robot has to upgrade itself if it wants to help its creators. The aesthetics are very colorful and pleasing to the eye, even if they are very simple. The game itself is a 2D puzzle-platformer with Minecraft-esque elements and tetranimoes. There are many types of blocks you can collect, each behaving like they do in minecraft (e.g. sand is affected by gravity, where as other blocks don't). Unlike Minecraft, though, you can't just place a block. In this game, you must arrange them into a Tetranimo before placing them. You can also eliminate a line of eight or more blocks to get them out of the way. These gameplay devices comes into play a lot. There are also "boss" levels, which require you to think fast. The platforming itself is smooth, and you will rarely find yourself mad because Tetrobot didn't respond quick enough. The humor in the game is also good, and you will often chuckle when Alexey and Markus reference each others games. There is also a level editor and a community level hub, so players can share their creations as well as play and rate levels made by other people, effectively adding an infinite amount of replay value. To sum it up, Blocks that matter is a great game with a simple but entertaining story, eye-pleasing aesthetics, fun and unique gameplay, smooth controls, humor and a level editor, and it's very cheap too (five dollars on Steam). I highly recommend buying this game, even if you don't particularly like Minecraft OR Tetris.

The Binding of Isaac10
Dec 11, 2011
This is an excellent game. It's nothing much, but for what it is, it is top notch. A lot of the negative reviewers are A) Hate it because it was developped in part by Edmund McMillan (a creator of Super Meat Boy) or B) don't quite seem to understand that Edmund wasn't TRYING to make a blockbuster game, just a fun, little time waster. Seriously, I've stacked many hours on this game, not because it was some epic, ultra-game, but because it was fun. Take it at face value, people. It's a 5 dollar game made to chew up just a little bit of your time when you're bored, not meant to consume your entire day. Anyways, as for the game itself, it's a roguelike, top-down dungeon crawler that follows Isaac, a young boy escaping his religious mother in a basement full of monsters. You must then try and survive and, ultimately, destroy your mother. The game generates a new set of dungeons and assigns new unlockables each time you play, so your experience will always differ. It is also worth noting that the soundtrack is top-notch, and the soundtrack version should be purchased, especially when it's only 89 cents.

Orcs Must Die!10
Nov 18, 2011
More and more shooter-td hybrids are popping up, though I can't say I really mind that. Orcs Must Die! perfectly blends the two genres in a way that requires you to take advantage of both the traps AND your weapons. You can't just shoot the orcs, nor can you can't just sit back and let your traps do the work. The difficulty curve is perfect, it never gets too hard or too easy. The game also has a lot of replay value, in the sense that you can go back to earlier levels with your new-found arsenal of traps and try and beat them in different ways. Basically every single little thing about this game is perfect. The only issue with this game is that there is no mid-level save, but most levels only last 10 minutes or so, so you won't lose much if you absolutely have to quit. All in all, Orcs Must Die! is a gem I highly recommend you buy. Oh, and both the DLCs are worth it too.

From Dust4
Nov 18, 2011
Wow. What a shame. From Dust had such potential. In fact, I had given it a review score of 7, with the promise I would change it to a 9 if the issues I had with it were ironed out (as I assume it just had a rough start, like many PC games do, and that the issues would be fixed soon). I was very angry to not only see that they weren't, but that we had also been lied to. Apparently, the game was supposed to be DRM free. Hah. Although the DRM was recently removed, it still took a few months to do so. The game is still mostly broken, too. Again, it truly is a shame. I wish I could give this a 9, but I can't bring myself to do it, not with all these wobbly controls and various other errors.

Atom Zombie Smasher9
Oct 29, 2011
Atom Zombie smasher is the type of game you play to waste a lot of time. Long story short, if you're a fan of strategy games, I recommend you give this one a try. The moddability is really great too; it is EXTREMELY easy to make, publish and download mods. These mods can really change the experience of the game. My only real complaint is the difficulty, but other than that, this game is great.

Psychonauts10
Oct 14, 2011
Brilliant. Simply brilliant. This is what a platformer should be. It is one of the most original and fun games I have ever played. If you're a fan of platformers, you should buy psychonauts right now. My only real complaint is that the camera angle can sometimes screw you up at ONE point in the game, but that's it. When that's the only discernable flaw that a game has, it deserves a 10.

Spore8
Aug 18, 2011
I can't say I understand WHY people think this is a bad game. It may not have been what most people expected it to be, but it was still a great game. There are only three notable downsides: the controls are sometimes a bid wobbly (though this doesn't affect the game much), the physics (especially on jumping and climbing) can get pretty wonky at times (again, nothing game-breaking) and the tribal stage's extreme difficulty when trying to kill other tribes instead of befriending them. Other than those things, the game is great, especially with both its expansions. The creators are very fun, and you will notice improvement in your creations over time. You can also pick up some techniques and ideas from other users via Spore's built-in sharing system, the Sporepedia. When you download someone else's creature, they can appear in your game as an NPC. If you choose not to download any creations, Maxis has a ton of built in creatures, buildings and vehicles as well. As for the individual stages, they are all very fun and provide something different each time. Although you CAN skip directly to a later stage, you are at a disadvantage, as you won't be able to get certain archetypes (which give you special abilities) or any other perks obtainable only in earlier stages. This is a bit of an incentive to maximize gameplay time, although it's much more rewarding when you actually get these abilities. To wrap up my review, I would just like to point out that the majority of negative reviews are probably the result of disappointment at a game that seemed like it would be much different. Although I can sympathise with these people, I still feel it's no reason to rate a great game so poorly. If you don't own this game and happen to stumble upon my review, I say check it out and don't be fooled by its low user ratings.
