This is a great film for any young woman to see, who has been told she’s not strong enough, not good enough, and not smart enough and will not take no for an answer.

Beautiful animation and an engrossing tale spun by a class of orphans who create the story from their own lives. @ CIFF42

@ CIFF 42 a child's perspective of loss of her family and how she copes with a new family and little sister. Two wonderful child actors sell the film. A hint of danger

The best film so far this year. A true slice of life in a melting pot world. It is not a laugh filled show because it takes place at a comedy club but the humor is real from real people facing a tragedy.

Richard Gere is Norman. That's about all you need to recommend this film. Norman forces his way into people's lives with his only reason being he wants to do you a favor and make himself valuable. i think i would equate him to a wart. But a lovable wart.When he befriends a low level Israeli politician and in trying to ingratiate himself, buys him a pair of shoes, an $1100 pair of shoes, the politician, 3 years later, is now the Prime Minister of Israel and Norman and he are **** Norman gets caught up in intrigue as the opponents of the P.M. try to oust him for his stand of compromise with all. Gere will get at least a Golden Globe nomination and the P.M.(Lior ****) was brilliant.

This is a interpretation of the first date (that really wasn't a date) between Barack and Michelle. He an intern at a law firm where she has worked for 2 years and she is his boss in certain respects. It is simply a day together with 2 people gauging each other and you want to see how it proceeds. The paintings by Ernie Barnes in the museum scenes are works of true art.

SULTAN is a bit like the original ROCKY. Sultan is a powerful wrestler who takes on 10 opponents, 1 at a time in an outdoor arena in India. He is seldom challenged as he slams them to ground where they fail to get up. Sultan is however an unhappy fella because his true love for an unknown reason won't even acknowledge his existence. Then we return to the past which encompasses the first half of the film. Sultan is carefree and with his father trying to expand their cable TV business, when he meets a woman Aarfa,who stands up to him, and he realizes he must marry her. She will have nothing to do with him, for he is nobody and she is attempting to win a gold medal at the Olympics, with the help of her father who runs a wrestling school. She practices wrestling men. So his only recourse is to join the school, learn the sport, and also win a gold medal. This being a Bollywood film there is a lot of singing and dancing, which was great. After they marry Sultan goes on to win the gold, but Aarfa becomes pregnant and misses out. Their relationship hits the skids as his ego balloons. Now back to the present: Several years later a competition called Pro Takedown is trying to become a viable sport in India, but all the fighters are foreign and the fans have no homer to cheer for. Sultan is recruited to fight, but this is mixed martial arts, without rules and he must now learn a new sport from the beginning. An 8 min. intermission splits the film's past and present, but I needed no loo break, and was eager to see more. Great performances all round from a solid director.

The reason to see this film are the performances of Greta Gerwig,who seems made for this type of role, Bill Hader, and Maya Rudolf, her best friends, and who wouldn't want friends like that, that offer solid shoulders to lean on. Ethan Hawke and Julianne Moore as the couple at the crux of Maggie's plan are two totally unlikable characters who readily deserve each other. Hooray for the pickle salesman!

Lady Susan manhandles,manipulates and seduces, and that includes the audience. She is impossible to ignore and Sir James Martin is simple and simply hilarious. I didn't think Jane Austen was this funny.Kate Beckinsale and Tom Bennett should be remembered when it comes to award season.

John Carney has directed 3 films about music. ONCE which was turned into a Broadway show, BEGIN AGAIN, and SING STREET. This could be a prequel to ONCE, as there seems to be an element of truth to all the films. A teenage boy Conor is enrolled in a new school(this is Ireland in the '80s) because his parents are breaking up and can't afford to send him to his current school. He meets a girl a bit older than himself and trying to impress her, asks if she would like to be in a video with his band. When she says 'Yes', he then has to recruit kids from his new school to form a band. Another element of the film is the relationship Conor has with his older slacker brother Brendan, who wanted to be a musician but his mother wouldn't let him leave home, and Brendan backs Conor's attempt to get the girl,Raphina, and take the path he was unable to in his youth.

'If it's not too much to ask, could you punch me in the face?' (Agent Sevier to Lucas the cop)MIDNIGHT SPECIAL is loaded with great actors. Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst,Adam Driver,Sam Shepard and the young boy played by Jaeden Lieberher. A father has taken his son back from a cult leader and members are sent to bring the boy back. The FBI raids the cult farm and the entire cult is questioned about the boy and his whereabouts. The boy, Alton, wears goggles and is shielded from daylight and the sun as they travel at night and tape cardboard to the motel windows. It is as much a family film as it is a sci-fi/chase film.
