I bought this game after several YouTubers saying how good it was with a wheel. There may be stiff steering and lots of bumps but there is no feeling for how much grip you have or when you are starting to slide. I've tried various wheel and in game settings from Reddit but the game just doesn't have that information to translate to the wheel. If you are playing on a controller, the game is fine but for GT7, ACC or rally racers who use a wheel, you will be massively disappointed.

NeverAwake9

Easily the best twin stick shooter on the switch. Everything about the game from the graphics to gameplay show how much effort the developers have put into this. It's great looking, original and above all fun to play. I'd have given it a score of ten but it's just slightly too easy and the game was over in less than 5 hours. I imagine skilled players would work their way through it much quicker. Still, those 5 hours were some of the best hours I've had with the Switch in a long time and for the price, it's well worth it.

Why do companies make it so difficult to play a game. Need to set up an account, verify email addresses, sign in on phone and xbox, then it says I have created an account before but won't let me reset password. When I finally got into the game, the controls are non responsive and the graphics no where near as good as Forza.

Elden Ring10
Jan 10, 2023
Before Elden Ring, Zelda Breath of the Wild was easily my favourite game. After 100 hours of this game, I'm not really even that bothered about the Tears of the Kingdom sequel though. Elden ring is fairly similar to Breath of the Wild but the combat feels way more realistic and evolved and there's much more to do. The only problem with it is that it's slightly spoilt all other games. It's hard going back to other adventures when you've experienced a game this good.

Rogue Legacy 210
Dec 15, 2022
Just like the original, this game is incredibly addictive. As a roguelite, you can spend your coins on upgrades upon death allowing you to slowly progress further on each run. The gameplay and controls are perfect and the different load outs give lots of variety.

Splatoon 30
Sep 13, 2022
So many connection errors. Salmon run is unplayable as you play three levels then get thrown out and loose all points at the last second. I've had 2 warnings for leaving matches myself when my Internet connection is perfect. Update. Following the latest patch, the game is no better. Constant crashing of matches when someone gets disconnected. Also match making on the splatfests is very unfair. Each time, teams of friends are allowed to match against individuals. This means they are organised and are talking to each other about strategy. I must have lost 30 matches in a row despite being quite good at Splatoon 2. Groups should be matched against other groups rather than random individuals.

A brilliant beat em up where you earn cash and can buy upgrades. Very difficult at first but the game allows you to grind and level up. The graphics are good and the controls are brilliant. There are loads of different moves so unlike some beat em ups, the game doesn't become too repetitive. My only slight criticism is that enemies do take a lot of damage before being beaten. This is one of my top three beat em ups on switch. The others being Shredder's Revenge and Street of Rage 4

Taxi Chaos4
Aug 20, 2022
I just picked this up on sale for $12 and still feel cheated. The gameplay is so dull and slow. The original Crazy Taxi games had a real sense of urgency, encouraging you to take risks and scare the passenger without crashing. It even used to show your tip going up when grazing close by cars. There is none of that with this game. Terrible music, fuzzy graphics, slow frame rate, bugs cause you to get stuck in the scenery, repetitive conversations, painfuly slow load times and so, so boring.

If this is your only Rhythm game, you'll probably enjoy it but I found that a lot of the best songs were also available in other games like the much cheaper and more fun Taito no Tatsujin. If you do want original songs, there is the DLC but it's ridiculously expensive. Another negative compared to other rhythm games with the same songs is the load times. This is the type of game that players want to quickly jump into for a 5 minute play but the full version takes ages to start up. I thought my console had frozen at first. I wish I'd checked what songs were available before buying.

Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium4
Jul 24, 2022
The first Capcom Arcade collection had a ton of great games and although some were repeated, most were original. The 2nd Stadium is really bad value for Capcoms loyal customers who have already bought the Beat em up bundle, Fighting Collection and 30th Anniversary Collection as only half the games are new. While you can buy the few games you are missing on their own, the price is double the separate purchase price of the first stadium games meaning that you could quickly spend more than the price of the whole pack leaving owners of other collections with no reasonable option. If you don't already own any of the games already on switch and are buying the full pack, then you can double my score but, this one is still no where near as good as the first. Capcom should have offered some sort of discount to owners of previous collections.

An original, fun third person shooter that is always fun to dip into every now and again. The only thing that stops me playing it more often is the amount of time it takes scrolling through conversations before being able to play . That said, it is always easy to find a match and I'm glad I own it.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land9
Mar 28, 2022
I was worried that Kirby's first 3d adventure might be too easy like Star Allies but I really enjoyed it. I even died during the initial try on a couple of levels. It is still on the easy side, but offers just enough challenge to bring some excitement to the game. The time to complete the game is still very short as you won't be stuck on any level for long but every minute was so inventive and I was smiling the whole way through.

A simple but surprisingly addictive rogue lite. After each run you can spend your coins on permanent upgrades allowing you to progress further as you level up. The combat is fun and I ended up putting almost 50 hours into this game. Brilliant value. It's easily up there with other roguelite games like Dead Cells and Hades. If the developers are reading, please, please bring Rogue Legacy 2 to the Switch.

Espgaluda II -Be Ascension. The Third Bright Stone of Birth-10
Feb 14, 2022
While many reviewers rightly talk warn about Espgaluda's complicated scoring system, it is actually one of the more accessible shooting games on the Switch if you are just playing for survival. The bullets are slow moving and it is a great game to practice weaving in and out of complex patterns. As with all Cave games, the graphics are superb and it's great fun to play.

DoDonPachi Resurrection9
Jan 31, 2022
Out of the 3 Cave games released by Live Wire so far, this is probably my least favourite. While you get a ton of lives in the form of bombs when you get hit, bullets come at you so thick and fast that most of the time when dying you don't even know what hit you. With Espgaluda 2 and Mushihimesama, the bullet arrangements are dense, but when I get hit, I always feel it is down to my own error, unlike with this game where deaths feel cheap. That said, any Cave game is still way better than 90% of other shmups out there and for the price it is still fantastic. Just be prepared to loose a lot of lives if you don't have cat like reactions.

Shikhondo: Soul Eater6
Jan 20, 2022
I think this game is more of an eyesight test than shmup. The tiny bullets of both yourself and enemies are red, but the backgrounds also have mainly reddish tones. Well, I am exaggerating slightly. One boss has blue bullets but surprise surprise, the backgrounds also turn blue. The gameplay itself is quite fun and due to the slow moving bullets, it would be quite good for beginners. It's just a shame that they couldn't make the bullets more clearly defined. The challenge in a shmup should be dodging bullets, not struggling to see them.

I am so glad that we are finally getting some decent Cave games on the switch. Mushihimesama is probably the most accessible of these Cave ports and is perfect for shmup beginners with its easier bullet patterns. I hope we get Espgaluda 1, Ketsui and the western port of **** soon.

This is an enjoyable Roguelite with exploration and lots of upgrades. It is fairly easy and while I took my time and got 10 hours play from it, I imagine that many will finish it in well under 5 hours. That said, every moment of play is packed full of charm and it's well worth the price.

Dec 10, 2021
I enjoy difficult games like Hollow Knight and Cuphead but **** is going to be hard it has to be enjoyable enough to keep coming back for another try. The enemies in this game are like bullet sponges and have to be hit so many times before they go down. The areas look samey and with no map it is easy to get lost. On reading the reviews, I thought this game would be ideal for me but I have given up after a few hours as it just feels like too much of a chore to try again.

Burnout Paradise Remastered6
Dec 7, 2021
Really fast with a smooth framerate and can be fun. Unfortunately races are spoilt as the graphics aren't sharp enough for you to make out turns you need to make in time. I play in portable mode so it may be better for players using a large tv. The map is also always north up so if you are travelling southwards, the directions are upside down and a required left turn shows as a right on the map. Not an issue on fixed tracks but can cause real problems on a free world game this fast combined with such blurry graphics. I also don't like the format where you have to drive around the city and pull up at different traffic lights to start each race. If there is a decent route or event, I want to select it immediately rather than trying to remember where it was in a large city.

Mantis Burn Racing9
Dec 7, 2021
Easily the best top down racer on the switch. The handling and drifting feels great and there is plenty of challenge. It can involve a lot of grinding and you have to race the same courses again and again in multiple vehicles before progressing. The graphics look nice but don't offer much variety between tracks. For the money, it is well worth it and is one of the few switch racers that I keep coming back to.

Dec 7, 2021
Rock n Roll Racing was good but felt a bit limited compared to newer racers. Nice soundtrack although I wish there were more songs. The other games were just terrible with slow clunky controls. Also, why make people record a 12 digit password for each game. I know this pack is all about nostalgia but there is no pleasure in loosing progress when you turn the game off before recording the password.

Cruis'n Blast7
Dec 7, 2021
Great sense of speed and looks good for a switch game. There is no punishment for crashing. If you crash into a bridge you go straight through it and if you go off track, you end up on a parallel track that guides you back on course. With the rubber banding and lack of need to dodge anything, it does feel like there is no skill needed and the player is just along for a roller coaster ride. All you need to do is save your boosts for the last bit of the race and you win. That said, despite the lack of challenge it is pure arcade fun and I enjoyed my 2 hour play through it.

Dragon Ball FighterZ7
Dec 1, 2021
Brilliant animation and the ease of performing moves makes even gaming novices like me feel like I know what I am doing. I wish it was quicker to get into matches. Fighting games are designed to be picked up and played for a five minute match. With this game you have to walk your 3d character around a little virtual village into the right room for matches and then wait for everything to load. A quick menu with all modes written down would have been much more accessible. A lot of the time I choose another game because I can't be bothered waiting for this one to load.

Super Punch Patrol8
Nov 19, 2021

Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions2
Nov 19, 2021
While most boxing games have a different button for each straight punch and hook, this one just has one button that covers both hands. Repeatedly pressing this button does a combination. There is a separate power punch and super button. The controls are slow and it's impossible to get out the way of opponents punches once they have thrown them. There is no option to move your head to the left or right. The button mashing required makes it feel more like a very poor and sluggish Street Fighter attempt than a boxing game. Ready to Rumble Boxing on the Dreamcast felt far more responsive and polished than this. Above all, that game was fun while this is just slow and boring. In arcade mode you are forced to do a training routine and scroll through loads of text boxes before each match which isn't really suitable for a super simple fighting game. A complete waste of money

Panzer Dragoon8
Nov 16, 2021

AngerForce: Reloaded5
Nov 16, 2021
Decent graphics with nice bold colours and a good variety of enemies. Bullets are easy to see. If you don't mind a bit of grinding, it is actually quite good for newcomers as each time you die, items gained can be used to buy permanent upgrades. Even if you are terrible at this type of game, the upgrades will let you see the end eventually. There was a tiny bit of slowdown and stuttering but this only caused me to die once. Also, as it is a vertical shmup, there are great big borders on each side of the screen. I usually prefer horizontal shooters or vertical ones that use the whole screen like Jamestown. It does have a tate mode if you own a flipgrip. Another issue is la lack of customizable controls making it unplayable with an arcade stick. Apart from that, this is a really enjoyable game.
Nintendo Switch

Sine Mora EX6
Nov 14, 2021
I agree with another review on here that said its better fun to watch than play. On normal mode it's quite easy but boring where the other modes are impossible. I can't put my finger on what's wrong with it as it looks amazing. There's just no excitement and because you die when your time runs out rather than from getting hit, you almost don't care as much when you can't dodge a bullet.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition0
Nov 12, 2021
I don't understand how some are saying you can still have fun with these games. The controls are useless, the framerate makes controlling the game even harder. The gameplay is completely broken with some invisible walls and other walls you can drive straight through. Vehicles pop up out of nowhere making you crash and driving is unresponsive. I don't care so much about the graphics which are a joke by the way but the advertising indicated gta5 level controls. All I can see is slight button remapping. Gameplay and control is way worse than the originals. Playing this game is so frustrating I nearly threw my brand new Switch Oled against the wall. I usually wait for reviews before buying games but thought the company behind RDR2 and GTA wouldn't risk their reputation to make some quick money. Money doesn't come easily to everyone and Rockstar have disappointed many people who spent $60 on this unplayable mess.

Easily the best version of tetris yet. The way the music alters the speed of gameplay is brilliant. Lots of modes allow beginners to have a relaxing game and experts the challenge they need. Having owned many of these games in the 90s, I jumped at the chance to play them again. Unfortunately, despite the nostalgia they don't really measure up to modern equivalents. The input lag on some if the faster games like sonic spinball made them unplayable. I enjoyed the streets of rage games but that was about it.

HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed9
Feb 25, 2021
I originally gave this game a fairly low score as I thought the campaign was designed to be tackled with multiple players and was too difficult in single player. The developers have since made so many updates it is about the most complete fps on the switch. There are options for bots, fps or third person view and many more maps and modes than at launch. Ignore any low reviews given before mid 2021 as the updates have made this a completely different game. The only thing preventing me from giving it a perfect score is that the movement could be just slightly faster.

Great fun. You will die often as this is a rogue like where each run, you get to upgrade slightly and repeat a procedurally generated level. These upgrades take longer to aquire and make less difference the further you get though. Good variety of weapons and enemies and a bit different to all the other fps games on switch as it takes itself less seriously.

Feb 9, 2021
No drum support, no rumble support and very small selection of songs which aren't as good as the ones on the original drum n fun. The few songs that are good are repeats that are already available on drum and fun meaning that you are buying them twice if you own the original game. Rpg elements are a waste of time. I loved drum and fun and was really looking forward to more content but this game has nothing new to offer that hasn't been done much better beforehand.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars7
Feb 9, 2021
Mario 64 was my favourite game and felt revolutionary at the time. I don't mind the lack of wide-screen but fighting with the controls and camera angle makes the game really show its age. Mario sunshine looks fantastic. Much better than the original. Shame the game is super frustrating and easily the weakest in the 3d mario series. Galaxy was a brilliant game. Easily as good as most modern day platformers and in my opinion better than the sequel. Again, it looks fantastic and plays great when docked. Unfortunately, the controls in handheld haven't been thought through at all. You are expected to take your hand off the controller to touch the screen and collect things while performing difficult platforming sections at the same time. So there we have it. One game really showing its age, one game that wasn't much good anyway and the only decent game by modern standards completely ruined for handheld players.

Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition9
Feb 9, 2021
I played this after having completed the sequel which was my favourite all time game. The emphasis is far more on platforming than combat. The platforming is harder than in Will of the Wisps, especially the chase sequences. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had played it before the sequel and in its own right its a very good game. Its just I had been spoilt with Hollow Knight and Will of the Wisps before I played this. Still one of the best metroidvanias ever. Just play them in order if you can and you will appreciate it far more.

I have never played this game before so my review was not swayed by nostalgia. Compared to modern games, this controls terribly. The save points are few and far between and you have to keep going into the menu for health items.

Hollow Knight9
Jan 20, 2021
I am rubbish at games and still no where near finishing hollow knight but the gameplay is so addictive. With practice and grinding to upgrade it is possible to beat seemingly indestructible bosses once you get the timing right and learn the attack patterns. I wish that the checkpoints were a bit closer together as you often have to fight your way through many levels to get back to the point where you die. That said, I have so far put 50 hours into this game and loved every minute of it.
