Inherent Vice2

This is the perfect movie for insomniacs. Or people who actually LIKE Thomas Pynchon novels. Only two things will disturb your rest. Josh Brolin, in his relatively limited screen time, manages to inject actual energy into his role. It's worth staying awake to see him. And, of course, Katherine Waterston bares all, and that will surely wake you up. Personally, I was glad when I needed to leave the theater for a while and use the facilities. The folks selling popcorn and soda pop were more engaged than anyone on screen ('ceptin' Brolin, of course).

The Great Beauty10

A deeply affecting film of life lived on the surface. This story could only reach fulfillment in cinematic form. A must-see film one which makes us realize why we love movies.

Blue Jasmine10
Aug 11, 2013
The field for the 2013 Oscar for Best Actress has already narrowed to two: Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine) and Julie Delpy (Before Midnight). While Blue Jasmine has multiple flaws in story and script, Cate Blanchett's performance overwhelms everything else about the movie. She alternates between feverish and cool, delusional and pointed, with something like feral intensity. It's a shocking performance, really, one that lays bare the greed, rage and confusion that exists within all human beings. This is a must-see film. Must-see.
