Keanu10

Key & Peele are back! Those of us who have been missing the brilliant comedy and trenchant social commentary of the much-love, recently-ended TV show are going to be THRILLED by "Keanu"; and those who do not know the show will instantly become devotees as the result of seeing this film. The storyline follows the adventures of the title character--THE most adorable kitten eve to grace the silver screen--and all those who fall in love with Keanu, from gangsta thugs to the audience itself, which quickly starts to love the kitten. Our two totally assimilated Black heroes, Rell (Jordan Peele) and his cousin Clarence (Keegan Michael Key) take on bad-ass gangta personas to recover Keanu from its series of captors, especially the evil Cheddar (played by Method Man). It is all riotously good fun! The brilliance of the film lies, however, in it innumerable layers of movie history refereneces, the absurdist play on action film tropes, and the irony of its social commentary. Keanu is hilariously funny, intelligent, **** I laughed my head off throughout the entire film. This film has something for everyone. RUN, do not walk, to your nearest theater to see it!!

My Golden Days10

This is an amazing film from the great French Director Arnaud Desplechin. In his evolving, intertwining body of work, often the same or similar characters appear--played by the roughly the same repertory company of world-class actors, often playing different characters in different films. In My Golden Days, Desplechin regular Mathieu Almaric plays the central character, although much of the film another actor plays the flashback recollection of his earlier history. It is a deep, emotional, moving, yet funny tale of great psychological sphistication, as are all of Desplechin's films. For my money, My Golden Days is one of the very best films of the year!
