Very faithful to the source material, and it works well. I do prefer the cuts without "The Black Freighter"; The Ultimate Cut suffers from those awkward cheap-looking animated insertions and just doesn't flow too well. A strong, serious, and adult superhero chronicle that sets itself apart from others in more ways than one. Zack Snyder really did a respectful job in bringing the graphic novel to life.
It's daring in the sense that most of the horror takes place during daylight. The film introduction of some key characters in the Resident Evil universe is nice to see. Even though the zombies are supposed to me more evolved, they're boring and all look relatively the same. This wasn't anything too worthy of the RE name, and some plot points just don't seem to fit with the mythology.
Pretty stupid, but does have its LOL moments. Cheap, sometimes effective. It did push the grossness envelope back in its day, but today the gags don't hold up as well. Fun for what it is.
Can be disappointing on so many levels, but even though it doesn't do a good job of adapting the game, I still find this entertaining and watchable. The Manson/Beltrami score collaboration works well, as does the cold corporation slant. It's just that considering the source material, this doesn't live up to the awesomeness it could've been.
This movie is no joke. It's fierce, provocative, and tragic. I don't know if the observation that Swank and Sevigny both resemble the opposite sex is a flaw or a benefit to the story, but everything else is suspenseful and worthy of conversation.
An absolute blast. True to its predecessors and action-packed from beginning to end. Sam and Bruce play with and against each other quite well; I particularly enjoyed the humor during the scenes where they accuse each other or racism. Jeremy Irons is excellent as usual. A solid action film.
Leo and Russell are the highlights, although Crowe's hair looks too fake. It's watchable even though it does get preachy at times. It's almost as if DiCaprio's character is repeating verbatim what the public has been saying about the war in Iraq for years. There's little chemistry between protagonists. An okay thriller dealing with trust, credibility, and the dangers of alliances.
An intelligent suspense thriller with enough attention to detail to merit repeat viewings. Splendid acting. Excellent score. Fantastic balance between violence, dialogue, and mystery. It really does a great job of presenting the story in a nontraditional unchronological way. I have yet to see another brainy feature such as this.
It's scary, shocking, and excellently made. I felt a different type of fear while watching this. It's not your typical monster or possesion fright-fest. With the exception of a few CG effects, everything works rather well and really creates a sense of dread and suspense. One of the better horror movies I've seen in a while. You might not want to watch it alone, or before going to bed.
Not great, but a good portrayal of an amazing true story. Get's better as the movie progresses. Beautiful snow scenes contrast the horror. Captivating, but not enough.
