Have you ever seen a movie that was so amazing, that it permanently affected your perception of society, the world, and life in general? Well, the upper echelons of high quality video games can deliver a similar experience and Bioshock is one of them. 2007 was the biggest year in gaming and this was the biggest game of that year. Still the 5th highest rated PC game on Metacritic and a shoe in for top 5 FPS games ever along with Golden Eye 007 and Half-Life 2. The atmosphere, the theme, and the lore provided by the audio diaries scattered throughout Rapture are perfect. The story isn't perfect because it loses a lot of its uniqueness after playing through it more than once. Gameplay mechanics are not perfect either but doesn't really take away from the overall experience. When it comes to how the game has aged, I will say this: gameplay mechanics can and did age, but lore, atmosphere, the theme, and overall feel didn't. 97/100 rounded up to a 10 is my personal score for the game.

Battlefield 3: End Game5
Feb 26, 2021
Disclaimer: Due to the behavior of premier servers, buying BF3 DLCs individually doesn't allow you to play on them even if you own the DLC of the map that is currently in rotation. In other words, none of the DLCs are worth buying over premium. If you want a specific DLC, get premium or don't bother getting it at all. A slightly above average Battlefield DLC. Apart from a few well designed maps, it's not that remarkable. One of the biggest disappointments was the new CTF mode which doesn't really work in BF as well as it does in Halo or CoD due to the high player count. Even 32 player CTF can be overwhelming. Maps all feature a notable problem with land-air balance because the helicopters being able to orbit-hover with no precautions due to lack of mobile AA.

Definitely the best DLC that introduced 3 new vehicles, the XBOW, and 4 new earthquake-struck urban maps. Despite all of them taking place in an earthquake struck city, the diverse amount of gameplay that these levels facilitated is amazing. Destruction was toned down in order to provide the maps with a level of detail never before seen (or after). New vehicles: the Phoenix & Barsuk are two of the new vehicles that feature a driver and two gunners (an MG and a grenade launcher). They are part of the post earthquake theme and appear to have been created using their respective faction's MRAP. The 3rd vehicle is the most unique and powerful, the RHINO whose driver and gunner are the same. It's heavily exposed but has a lot of firepower. XBOW and Scavenger: The XBOW is the new all-class gadget firing 4 different types of bolts unlocked via assignments. It's everything you want in a gadget: not as good as the other kit specific gadgets but not useless. Scavenger is the new game mode that combines Conquest Domination from the CQ DLC and Team Slayer from Halo. Maps: Aftermath has the best urban map design of any Battlefield game ever. Despite all maps having the same theme, they facilitate diverse gameplay and are very different from each other on a technical level. Markaz Monolith and Talah Market make my top 10 best BF maps of all time and Azadi Palace makes my top 15. The only map that has any notable flaw would be Epicenter which is still excellent but is prone to spawn trapping.

Battlefield 3: Armored Kill10
Feb 26, 2021
Disclaimer: Due to the behavior of premier servers, buying BF3 DLCs individually doesn't allow you to play on them even if you own the DLC of the map that is currently in rotation. In other words, none of the DLCs are worth buying over premium. If you want a specific DLC, get premium or don't bother getting it at all. Excellent DLC that provided big maps with plenty of vehicles which were more common on BF1942 and BF2 maps. It doesn't feature any new weapons but does come with two new vehicle classes (Mobile artillery and Tank destroyers) and their own unlocks. New vehicles: tank destroyers and mobile artillery are found exclusively on the Armored Kill maps. TDs resemble IFVs but have the firepower of a tank while mobile artillery are unique and don't really have a counterpart in previous BF games, only a similar role to the artillery of the BF2 commander. Maps: Four excellent maps provide all out vehicle warfare but still with good dedicated infantry locations to fight in. Armored Shield, Bandar Desert, and Death Valley are some of the best maps in the entire franchise. They're very balanced, provide diverse playstyles, and are all vehicle oriented. Due to the dedicated infantry locations, TDM plays very well on them despite not being specifically designed for them. Pitfalls: The AC-130 is a marketing gimmick that doesn't have a place in the game. It's either underwhelming when played on Conquest or ridiculously overpowered when played on Rush. The rush game mode is singlehandedly ruined by the AC-130 making this the a worse DLC for consoles. The new game mode Tank Superiority is not very well thought of and quite unfun.

Battlefield 3: Close Quarters4
Feb 26, 2021
Disclaimer: Due to the behavior of premier servers, buying BF3 DLCs individually doesn't allow you to play on them even if you own the DLC of the map that is currently in rotation. In other words, none of the DLCs are worth buying over premium. If you want a specific DLC, get premium or don't bother getting it at all. New weapons: 10 new weapons are introduced with most of them being quite useful. New maps: Ziba Tower, Operation 925, Scrapmetal, and Donya Fortress are all arena style maps designed specifically for team deathmatch and domination. They provide an excellent infantry experience that can't be matched by any of the other maps in the base game including Canals TDM. So why the low score? Because maps designed specifically for TDM cannot be used for conquest or rush. New game modes: Domination, TDM Close Quarters, and Gun Master were all introduced in the DLC. Gun Master is the most notable one but is terrible compared to its CS and COD counterpart due it being team based instead of a free for all. Despite Gun Master being team based, the winner is still individual and your "teammates" are also competitors. It's basically a free for all mode where half of the players cannot be killed. Micro-destruction: this new feature made destruction on these maps feel much more authentic with bullets and rockets seeming to inflict an appropriate amount of damage instead of destroying entire sides of buildings with just one hit. CQ provides great infantry experience but nothing else. The new maps are designed specifically for TDM and Domination rendering them unplayable on other relevant game modes due to being too small.

Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand10
Feb 26, 2021
Disclaimer: Due to the behavior of premier servers, buying BF3 DLCs individually doesn't allow you to play on them even if you own the DLC of the map that is currently in rotation. In other words, none of the DLCs are worth buying over premium. If you want a specific DLC, get premium or don't bother getting it at all. New weapons: by completing assignments, 10 new weapons are unlockable to the player. Most of these weapons are excellent with the L96 being the best in the game. New vehicles: the F-35 fighter jet (Oman & Wake), BTR-90 APC (Oman, Sharqi, and Karkand), and the DPV buggie (Oman & Wake) all make a return from BF2 on these classic maps. New maps: 4 maps return from BF2 with the worst of these maps being better than the best of the launch maps. Gulf of Oman, Strike at Karkand, Sharqi Peninsula, and Wake Island. They're much more detailed than their BF2 counterparts but only Karkand provides a better experience than the BF2 version. Conquest Assault: 3 of the 4 maps retain their original Conquest configuration with one team controlling all the capturable flags but containing no friendly uncap. This provided an experience not unlike rush with one team being attackers and the other team being defenders. It was much more appealing than regular conquest and the excellent balance on the maps led to some very down to the wire end results. Overall, it's an excellent DLC that is infinitely better than the booster packs of BF2. The existence of premium doesn't make it worth buying though.

Battlefield 310

Of all the BF games, there are only three (BF2, BF3, BFBC2) that have a good case for being the best in the franchise, with BF3 having the most convincing case. In hindsight, this game has aged amazingly and the "controversy" during the game's lifespan was a nothing compared to how low the franchise, and the industry in general, has sunk. Amazing how I'm able to play this game as recently as today and enjoy it as much as I did back in 2012. Among FPS titles, Battlefield 3 still stands as one of the greatest multiplayer experiences ever by having no competitor titles being willing or able to deliver on the same scale. Realistically, I would give this game a 92/100 due to the mediocre singleplayer and co-op but the multiplayer is 95% of the reason why people play it. In conclusion: BF3 was the 2011 shooter of the year and 2nd best shooter of the 2010s after Bioshock Infinite.

Battlefield 21427
Feb 26, 2021
A low entry title into the franchise. The core gameplay is the best out of the Refractor engine BF games, so why the relatively low score? Because it's inferior to BF2 in almost every other department. Singleplayer: at launch only 5 maps were available for singleplayer and you needed to be connected online to even play the singleplayer. This was a new "feature" that prevented players from actually playing even the singleplayer if the server providers were to abruptly shut down. Map design and Titan: some of the least compelling in the series and is apparently due to new hires in the company being assigned to create them. A total of 10 maps were featured on release and another 10 were added by game patches. A new game mode premiered in 2142 called Titan mode, a heavily modified variant of the original conquest. Instead of capturing flags, you capture silos that bring the health of the enemy Titan's shields down. Instead of reducing enemy ticket count to 0, you reduce the enemy Titan's shield down to 0 either by controlling silos or destroying the interior of the Titan after breaching There are fewer weapons and vehicles in previous titles but more gadgets.

Battlefield: Bad Company 29
Feb 26, 2021
Although it has the weakest case for being the best Battlefield of the top 3 BF games (BF2, BF3, BC2), it's my personal favorite Battlefield game because of the Rush game mode. The squad based multiplayer set a sharp contrast to CoD and did very well in emphasizing teamwork to win games. It's slower paced than future BF titles but is still fast enough to keep your attention. Singeplayer: It's not as good as BC1 but much better than any other BF singleplayer. The plot is easy to follow, creative, and well written. Map design: they were designed exclusively for Rush which made most of them not very good experiences on conquest. The theme chosen for the maps were excellent and were used again for future maps in sequent titles. Core gameplay: classes were much more different than before but were very balanced because each had notable strengths and weaknesses. The vehicle-infantry balance was good despite a common misconception of overpowered attack choppers. Pitfalls: certain multiplayer mechanics are unbalanced (eg. Gustav + Explosive perk, Circle strafing choppers), but it's the most fun I had with a BF game. I've played it as recently as 2017 and had quite a bit of fun, but the servers are mostly dead by now.

Battlefield 29

Disclaimer: the BF2 community is still alive on PC (usually 100-200 players online) as of 2020. See BF2Hub for more info if you're interesting in playing again. YMMV Singleplayer: since patch 1.5, the single player features twenty maps to play on against bots. By default, only the 16-player version of the maps are available but the 32 and 64 player variants are available via mods. The singleplayer is not representative of the multiplayer experience due to the simplistic AI. Multiplayer: LAN parties, ranked servers, and unranked servers are all available to players to choose from. The options provided to server owners are excellent and are becoming increasingly rarer in newer titles. Maps: BF2 featured 12 maps on launch, 4 post-launch maps added via patches, and 6 booster pack maps made free via patch 1.5. The map design in this game is probably the best in the entire franchise with all-time greats such as Gulf of Oman, Karkand, Sharqi, Wake Island 2007, Kubra Dam, and many others. They are very well balanced, provided opportunities for diverse playstyles, and facilitated a great flow to them. New features: Battlerecorder allowed players to download files that had individual matches, Commander facilitated more teamwork than 1942, the 7 class system had new features like reviving, sprinting was now present in the game. Mods: BF2 had a great modding community with one in particular, Project Reality, having a profound influence on future milsim titles. Forgotten Hope 2 was a WW2 mod for this game and is imo the best one available. Pitfalls: unfortunately not everything was great about BF2. 5 of 7 classes carried 4 frag grenades when caused grenade spam on most maps, claymores couldn't be easily disposed of and locked down chokepoints, servers were unstable and hitreg was unacceptable. Air-land balance was very poor as well because the mobile AA was a joke, TV missiles were one shot kills against all vehicles, twin seat bombers wasted everything beneath them. Overall, this game gets a 91/100. Although it had problems with bugs and crashes during the beginning of its lifespan, it went on to deliver one of the greatest multiplayer FPS experiences I've ever had and is a top 3 BF game.

Battlefield 19429
Feb 26, 2021
One of the most iconic online FPSes of all time. Like most of the Refractor engine BF games, the single player doesn't have a campaign and is basically the online player maps but with bots. Set in WW2, it offers a great selection of weapons, vehicles, maps, and factions to play as. Onto the modding side of the game, Desert Combat is the greatest mod for any of the BF games and had a significant influence on future titles post BF Vietnam. The game has aged significantly and important mechanics in core gameplay are absent (eg sprinting, reviving, etc) but the fun factor is still there. The BF series have come a long way but 1942 is still one of the top 5 BF titles.

Not as good as the first two but still a great game. The story is much weaker this time around but the level design is still top notch and the controls feel a bit tighter this time around. There are a greater number of areas that cannot be visited compared to the other games unfortunately. Difficulty is reduced compared to Jak 2 but can still be a challenge on a few of the missions. Overall, I recommend this great PS2 game but not the PS4 version unless you get it for free.

The plot was great and the open world design with GTA vibes introduced a sandbox element to the series. Exploring haven city and its outskirts was another layer of replayability added. The most notable thing about this game was its difficulty which made it even more fun. Gameplay mechanics were ahead at the time but does show its age, however this is mitigated with a bit of practice. In summary: this is the 3rd best Naughty Dog game (after TLOU1 and Uncharted 2) and the best J&D game. Note: this review is only applicable to the PS2 version and not the disappointing PS4 version.

This HD collection is quite good since all three games are excellent and the HD upscale does justice. However, there are notable glitches such as the soundtrack glitch on Jak II and the punch glitch (which makes speedrunning impossible) that can ruin the game experience. Definitely recommend despite not being as well polished as the PS2 versions with the exception of graphics. If you're a speedrunner, stick to the PS2 version.

Reading through these reviews, you would believe that Titanfall is the best kept secret of the FPS genre. But after comparing my personal experiences with what people have said about the game, it's unnerving how overtly fanatic the fanbase is regarding the game. Clicking on the usernames and finding Titanfall as their only review doesn't make the situation any better. I was expecting a game near the same level as the first Halo, CoD 4, or Battlefield 3. Instead I got a decent shooter that, although may be great, does not convince me that it's better than all of its competitors of the same time period.

This is the second best CoD game after the original MW. There were a lot of balancing issues with multiplayer, but it was still very fun and addicting. Without DLCs, MW2 offered a whopping 16 maps that are still considered some of the best till this day. Campaign was amazing and very well written., although veteran mode was not challenging compared to previous CoD titles. Spec Ops was a great addition that made the overall game even better.

This game was a lot of fun for a simplified no-frills version of the original 1942. It was definitely worth the price of only $15 but the community died down relatively soon which was to be expected from an arcade game. It would have been a solid game with an offline bot mode like BF2 did.

Battlefield 47
Apr 15, 2020
TL;DR: Objectively not a top 5 Battlefield game, but still very good considering it's a copy of the best Battlefield. I was very conflicted on whether to give the game a 5 or a 7 due my bias in favor of the game. Yes it's a carbon copy of BF3, yes it added more issues than solved them. and yes it was a disappointment until DICE LA saved it. But at the end of the day, it's the closest current gen game to Battlefield 3 and introduced 64 player matches to consoles. That alone should give it 7/10. You can make a good argument for giving it a 5/10 (but not lower than that) when considering that this game can be summarized as an inferior version of BF3, but this argument becomes less and less relevant as the online BF3 servers become more and more sporadic. The dedicated fanbase to BF4 even two games later is a testament to its greatness.
