Kubo and the Two Strings7
Sep 1, 2016
Movies like Kubo demonstrated the value of diversity in different forms of cinematic art, more importantly, Kubo and the Two Strings is such a pleasure to **** fantasies with an oriental charm and the stop-motion technique that goes so well the the vintage-looking whimsical world which Kubo's story happened, Kubo is quite a successful effort in the age when CGI animation dominates the screen, which is precious.

Pete's Dragon7
Sep 1, 2016
The live-action adapted Pete's Dragon grasped the adolescent essence of the original animated film, which is one of the very under-known Disney classic. It is truly an adorable bedtime story with a hint of adventure. Pete's Dragon did not want to be over-complicated with too much glitters (in terms of story) and remained a family friendly story that is although somewhat predictable, but guaranteed to be liked.

Florence Foster Jenkins8
Sep 1, 2016
Delightful, smooth and so entertaining. Ends up with a perfectly bittersweet note, Florence Foster Jenkins tells a story about a wonderful dream that is bigger than truth. There are so much love in this story, whatever it's Jenkins' devotion to music or the love and friendship that she received. With several noticeable great performance by the cast and the lighthearted direction, the film might be one of the most refreshingly good biography of the year.

Suicide Squad4
Aug 5, 2016
What a shame that the Suicide Squad just could not keep up with the glory and swag that it promised before its release. The cast is not bad, in fact, it is great. However the movie itself is so disappointing that the viewers might be questioning if it's necessary to have a motion picture like this. Lousy, crowded and poorly-structured, the movie is a hot mess, just like the squad in it.

Lights Out5
Jul 22, 2016
Lights Out is a really frightening piece, just like it should be - a lot of jump scares, there were. The film is intense and ends with an interesting twist, however, the scare is too one-dimensional and flat that's a little bit tiring, and the dialogues are even weaker.

Star Trek Beyond7
Jul 22, 2016
Stunning visuals and a tight plot, with a few good funny moments; Star Trek Beyond is a well executed effort for a summertime blockbuster. The cast is as amazing as the audiences remembered. Compared to the first two installments of the reboot series, Star Trek Beyond is somewhat flawed in its pace. Some emotions could not be effectively conveyed by the timing and pacing, but the film wins with the cool action scenes.

Equals4
Jul 20, 2016
What a shame that Equals actually started with a strong idea which put the discussion of a humane concept of romance into a futuristic world that lacks the awareness of emotions, just like the what the masterpiece Her(2013) established on. However, the script missed the chance of being original and remarkable by chewing on the old "love wins all" that are flavorless, with the overuse of slow shots that are lazy and torturing.

Gods of Egypt2
Jul 19, 2016
Gods of Egypt is not a regular Hollywood production that lacks in honesty, decency or fun; it surpassed many bad examples of this kind in every aspect of failure. If this film is going to have a sequel, which is possible, and really frightening; it better be a two-hour-long apology to movie goers.

The Witch7
Jul 19, 2016
There is not a horror film that is as authentic as The Witch in decades. All the elements of a classic horror film was presented elegantly this time, which is quite remarkable. The Witch offered more to the audiences who just needed to be scared with a scrumptious folklore that's both haunting and classic.

The Wailing7
Jul 19, 2016
The Wailing is a horror film about everything - the walking corpse, the sinister ritual, the possessed innocent and more. They were all organized in a masterful pace of editing and well-composed cinematography. The ambiguity of "who's the cause of it all" haunts you even when the film is over, which is the scariest part of this well-done creation combining fear and trust.

Ghostbusters6
Jul 15, 2016
Ghostbusters is goofy in a good way. The elements of horror were somewhat highlighted in this CGI-stunning reboot of a more comedic classic, which actually made a good contrast of fear and fun. It's a reasonable excuse to get into the theater, but is not an amazing film in its story or anything else - it's just a SNL laughing gag that's been stretched into a feature film.

The Secret Life of Pets5
Jul 10, 2016
Fluffy, cuddly and adorable pets are definitely the stars of the movie, with a good amount of comedic elements. However the story is highly predictable and not well-polished enough. It's like a kindergarten version of cuteness pageant. There are no secrets in The Secret Life of Pets, which is ironic.

Sing Street is a song that celebrates the youth, dream and the purest teenage love. You danced as you were floating in the fine tunes and lyrics that are absolutely beautiful and smart. Deadpool added something unique into the superhero genre for sure. It is hilarious and entertaining to watch with several noticeable directorial kicks that are inspiring, industry-development-wise. 10 Cloverfield Lane8
Jul 4, 2016
It is a surprisingly good low-budget horror thriller, indeed. The elements of Sci-Fi served well in the movie, but ultimately, what 10 Cloverfield Lane truly frightened the viewers is the perversion under a claustrophobic atmosphere. The film effectively delivered the fear and nausea trough the nice rhythm and the even nicer cast.

Jul 4, 2016
Intense and brutal, a thriller that is both amazingly engaging as well as frightening. Green Room is a nice legacy that the young departed Anton Yelchin left the audiences to remember.

The BFG is quite charming and lovable in its visual, cast and the overall aesthetic complement. Credits to BvS for starting the possible DC cinematic universe, which should be both cool and enlightening; however, as an individual movie, BvS tries to do so much beyond its ability. The introduction of Batman is abrupt, the "Martha" is a joke; the last 25 minutes is really really good, the rest of BvS is just as unoriginal and pretentious as Man of Steel, who carries the same ambition with underwhelming execution.
