I pre ordered this because I bought into the Peter molyneaux hype, still unaware of his last two fable game promises. Needless to say it was extremely disappointing. Disappointing to the point of being a bad game. It IS A BAD GAME. It wouldn't have been if I wasn't so mislead end and lied to.
Solid 9!!!! The only thing keeping it from being a ten is some frustrating occasional bad AI. It's a lot better now though than it was at launch. There's still some bogus, like every other country conquers and kills a dozen cities but you take one and everyone starts shaming you and some other things will not be forgiven or forgotten by other nations. You spied on use 276 years ago?? Let us hold that over your head forever now even though we did far worse to you. Other than that, this is the pinnacle of massive replayability!!
Worth every penny. The replay value is astronomical with several different game modes, my favorite is galactic conquest where you move fleets around between planets and empty space and the enemy moves theirs and when the fleets meet, a space battle ensues and if a planet is below that belonged to the defender, a battle for control of the planet begins on the surface. You can also purchase bonuses and have to unlock the classes which is just fun for some reason! The game is so much fun to play and it looks really good considering it's age. I can only think of a handful of things that weren't so good... Sniping is not very satisfying.. There's no real impact or recoil when you shoot and when youre aiming at enemies that are far away, their movements are lightning fast! They're going one way but all of a sudden they do a complete 180 faster than you can blink. The next minor gripe I would have would be the squad commands... It was good in the first battlefront and you have several orders, now you can only aim at a trooper and order him to follow you but when you want him to leave you have to move very quickly to aim at him because he's always behind you and then you can tell him to move out. The biggest problem that can occasionally break immersion for some of us and cause some... Facepalming... The AI is really... REALLY bad... The AI is so inept and incompetent, ESPECIALLY in space combat! The AI is totally serviceable on the surface, but in space... Holy crap... You'll see gunships fly out of the hangar, turn right around and crash into the hull of their own ship. One space map is glitched too. The one where the bow of the rebel ship is facing the port side of a star destroyer... The imperial pilots are often brain dead. They stand around the doors doing nothing and it's weird because they spawn normally but when they walk through the doors they just... Stop...
The story is ok, the graphics are decent looking and the combat is satisfying, especially using the force and looking at the light saber animations. The quick time vents aren't all bad even though they're too easy and hardly randomized and the light saber doesn't really behave like a light saber as there is zero cutting in this game. It's more like a baseball bat because it will send enemies flying but won't ever cut through them. I like how many costumes there are but there are and the collectibles will entertain some but not all players. And yea you could argue that the combat is not the most exciting but for me, there are so many ways to deal with many types of enemies, it up to the players to use different tactics, not sure if that's a good thing or not. I've enjoyed it thoroughly but I think it's a rental for most people.
Stiff gameplay, extremely short and pointless story, zero replayability and no secondary game modes or any collectibles or costumes worth getting. Extremely disappointing given its initial retail value. The missions can be summed up as Kamino, Cado Namoida, Dagobah for five minutes, space battle, space battle over Kamino and Kamino end game. The cinematics are excellent and I love watching all the scenes with Vader and Boba but the story is still crap.
Despite the dated and initially frustrating combat, this game still holds up today and is worth every penny. You'll get roughly a good 60 hours from a relaxed fully enjoyed play through and there is limitless replay value due to the character choices and dialogue options and ways to fight your battles. The dialogue is very interesting and enjoyable and once your characters get skilled enough to stop missing targets at point blank range over and over and over (You can literally miss doors with melee weapons at the beginning off the game) the animations in light saber fights are fun to watch. Visit old Star Wars worlds and new ones in which ever order you want and with whatever companions you want who have their own unique commentaries and personalities adding to the tremendous replay value. The inventory system is among the worst I've ever seen but given the age of the game it is passable. There are many places to sell loot and buy weapons and armour and the game genuinely tempts you to choose the dark side to get more credits to buy some of the tremendously expensive items some vendors have. This game is a MASTERPIECE because the aforementioned flaws of this game are not enough to negatively effect your experience. This is a timeless game for all to enjoy!
