A Separation4

This is a classic situation of a movie critics think is great but others feel far less enamored with. The acting is great and the look into Iranian culture is nice, but the movie is a bunch or yelling, lying and manipulation. The ending really spelled it out. The movie went nowhere and was uninspiring.

Still amazes me that this got so much attention. Clint Eastwood is a great filmmaker and has made some masterpieces, but this movie was sluggish and simply too predictable. I love the surprises in Unforgiven and Gran Torino and several others, but this one was not even close to Clint's best. I even enjoyed J. Edgar better than this film.

This Is Not a Film9

I liked this movie because it sets the bar high as far as what it's trying to say. The metaphors here are terrific. The movie is very good, but has a few flaws in my eyes. I'm not a fanatic against foul language, but this movie contains about 50 more F bombs than needed. I think it would have had a better impact if the main character of Pete was a little more "normal" in his cynical nature. I'm not talking about 'It's A Wonderful Life' normal, but something short of the vile person he is. However, the flick is great in it's depiction of man's frustration with today's society. It asks," what is it all leading up to?" I love how God is depicted. Great acting by Peter Coyote. Very clever. It makes you think about the future of mankind!

Jeff Who Lives at Home9

A very nice movie with a nice ensemble of actors. In a very fast techno fused age, it was nice to see someone step back and craft a movie that puts a character like Jeff, into the mix in this funny flick that has heart. I felt the picture had a little bit of something for everyone. Ed Helms reins himself in a bit to play a character that plays well opposite Jason Segel. Susan Sarandon does a great job as well playing the mother of the two polar opposite sons. I enjoyed it very much. A first rate work.
